So, why the fuck has no one made a portable Oregon Trail?

I have been reading up a little on Payback. Will this game have side missions or is it pure story missions. Will there be stuff to do/collect such as packages in GTA? Something to make the game last longer past the story? Any unlockables?

Looks like a steal at $6USD!

any good card games in the app store? Im burned out on poker/gambling, and already have Uno. Been looking at Orions, though.

someone needs to make Fluxx and Killer Bunnies, stat!

Well the official Texas Holdem app from Apple is pretty great.

Bought iShoot as my first ever purchase on the Apps Store. I really really like it, great pick-up-and-play game. Some of the weapons are ridiculously overpowered but the CPU rarely uses them so if you avoid them yourself the battles are pretty balanced.
I've yet to try online but the CPU gives you a good challenge, particularly on extreme.

Looks like Jake Hunter (or at least one case from the game) has been porter to iPhone. I've read some horrible things about the DS original but this type of Ace Attorney game seems perfect for iPhone. Anyone wanna take one for the team and pay the $2.99 for Jake Hunter?
Yikes, the user interface for these games is pretty horrid! D:
Shame, because I totally agree that this genre should be strong on the iphone.

Is there any other Visual Novel type games?

Everyone's making Lite editions now because of iShoot. :lol
:lol

Guess I'll try that 1112 lite game.

@exodus5: It has to be a mac since the iphone/ipod touch itself runs on mac OS X.

I could probally afford a mac, and the 99 a year to make apps...but I have no idea how to code. Its to hard :lol

Yeah, Apple is stupid for trying to sell their own hardware right? I'm surprised XNA is Windows-only too!

:lol

It's hardly retarded when the iPhone uses the same programming language as OS X on the Mac.

If you're serious, you'll get the machine. If not, then no big deal right?

Do you have an idea for a cool app or did you just want to putz around and make another todo list manager?

yeah, I just bumped the official thread with the news. Everybody who was on the fence better buy it now.

BOUGHT. So glad I waited a day to get opinions from friends!

I have $2 left from an iTunes Gift Card. What two 99¢ / one $1.99 app/game should I get? I already own Cro-Mag Rally, Dr. Awesome, Trism, Frenzic (must buy), Metasquares, and Topple.

Hey guys, I was wondering if there's an app that lets me view powerpoint or PDF (ideally powerpoint) files? I've looked around, but the Felaur one wants me to use WiFi by the looks of it. I just want to drag them from my desktop, onto the Touch, and view them offline.

Wanna get in some last-minute revision for my exam tomorrow :lol

A quick search made it sound like the only to make it work is convert the file to something the Touch can work with.

:/

Like I said, I found this Felaur PDF Reader thing, and I'm willing to pay for it, but I'm not sure if I can just drag files onto the Touch using my USB cable and open them from there. If I need to use WiFi then I'll have to pray I can get a connection and then have fun typing in URLs every time I want to move presentation...

Apple doesn't provide anything in the SDK that would allow for this, unfortunately. You should be able to set up an Ad-Hoc wireless network, though, assuming that you have a wireless card on your computer.

Bought Rolando and Puzzle Quest the other night.

I was an idiot to buy the two.

I can't stop playing them :( I knew having PQ on my Touch would be a bad idea( I'm horribly addicted to the XBLA version)... Rolando is nice. I can't really get over the similarities between it and Loco Roco, but it has enough of its own charm to be fun (and fixes a lot of the problems LR had, such as being able to control one Rolando at a time THANK GOD!) and it's just a fun game.

I bought an iphone today, because I'm starting iphone game development now. :)

I bought Katamari... which was a mistake. What a disappointment. Terrible controls and frame-rate. Actually, I'm noticiing a lot of bad frame rates on the iphone, which worries me.

Rolando, whilst good, also has some slight frame rate issues. Also I can't get over how much of a blatent yet charmless loco roco rip off this is. Shame they were so deliberate about that.

Edge, on the other hand, is blissful! Wonderful controls, and beautiful and slick visuals. Great idea for a game and brilliantly implemented. This is how iphone games should be made.

Space Ninja got an update yesterday...

Code:
Ski Mode
sound/volume adjust
Buttons now have sounds
plus miscellaneous stuff

...and a $1 price drop today. At $3 it's a steal for the bullet dodging types.

I hate games that don't allow me to listen to music as I play. :(

This is mainly an issue of the developer not knowing how to do it, rather than a specific choice the developer made. The default sound setting is to interrupt iPod music, so developers have to specifically setup the sound to allow the music to play. And then, if the developer wants to really do cool stuff, they can detect iPod music playing and automatically just work with it (but that only became available as of OS 2.2, so not a lot of apps do it).

Are you sticking with Unity or going at it with naked xcode?

I've been poking around the web for good iPhone game development resources (websites or printed book) but have yet to find a good one... any ideas?

I know this thread for appstore games , but a ouendan clone available on cydia (osu) for (jailbroken) iphone .

the game is really good and i think there is more than 50 songs available (most of them unlicensed)
and you can create your song and upload it to the server.
there is a search function and i found portal (still alive) and super mario theme song

I liked 1112. The production values are pretty good, plus the next episodes are supposed to be cheaper and longer, which is a good thing.

I've started myself at the beginning of december, but decided against doing games.. I'd like to, but I don't have connections to artists (sad!). So now I'm halfway through a pretty complex app that has nothing to do with games but I'm confident it's got its own niche. If you need some help just drop me a pm, at least we can share info. :)

edit: oh and thanks everyone for pointing me to iShoot. It's a pretty fun clone of worms. It's all I'm playing now on the iPhone.

I got a used iphone over the the weekend and picked up Rolando last night. Pretty fun so far. What's the consensus on Crystal Defenders? I downloaded the lite version and was enjoying it far more then any other tower defense style game I've played (the Final Fantasy aesthetic helps), but it was slightly repetitive. Does the real thing offer enough variety to make it worth picking up?

I was horrified to find Space Deadbeef is one of them. :(

Btw, I finished 1112 ep 1 today. I really liked it, and I did like that the first chapter was an every day work day for the main character, with hints of weirdness. The end of the chapter left me wanting more.

Can't wait for ep 2.
