hi guys , new with iphone
would u mind giving me ur top 15/20 games?
thanks

We need a standard post that we can refer to for this very common question...

Here are some good games from a wide variety of genres.

WordJong
Blue Attack
Edge
Rolando
Fastlane Street Racing
Fantastic Contraption
Sim City
Spore Origins
Aurora Feint The Beginning
Snail Mail
Orions: Legend of Wizards
Dr Awesome
Galcon
FieldRunners
7 Cities
Tiki Towers
Amateur Surgeon
Texas Holdem
Topple
ExZeus
Slotz

There are plenty that I'm leaving out if you look back in the thread that other people quite enjoy.
To name a bunch off the top of my head.

I just played the Flash version of WordJong, and it was addicting. Seemed kind of basic, though. Is there any extra modes or special things for the iPhone version? Seems a bit steep paying $5 for something that I can play on the PC for free currently.

I was thinking the same thing. Thread becomes a list-fest every few pages.

...

Alphabetic is still one of my favourites. Everyone should at least try the lite version.

Monospace is awesome as well.

That's it. The game is very simple. The playability comes in that you get a new puzzle every single day. The best way to think of it is like the New York Times crossword puzzle mixed with a Nintendo Brain training game. It's something you play for like 15 minutes every day. Which reminds me I think I'll start bumping the word jong thread for daily puzzles since I stopped when I was banned for a week.

With this being the main hub for all things iPhone gaming related. Just wanted to put you Twitter users on my feed that links to reviews I write up for various game apps for iPhone on AppCraver.com. I typically write 3-4 reviews a week so hopefully you find it useful prior to purchasing games.

Reviews for LightBike (cool), Big Fun Racing (avoid) and Pocket Arnold(classic!!) are going live this week...

I don't know if it's old but there's an update for Fieldrunners that fixes the crashing

It just went up last night.

On a side note I bought the creeps. (Tower defense game) Not bad although I'm not sure I like having to shoot obstacles on the course to clear out space. The art style is very attractive though.

Is Audiosurf on iPhone? And if not, why the hell not? It'd be perfect.
The user's music is off-limit, the SDK doesn't give devs access to it, so you'd be limited to bundled tracks and DLC

But perhaps the most remarkable gesture, however, is the fact that Transgaming has told us that they will be releasing Chapter 2 of the series as a free update to current Puzzle Quest owners. Yes, that means 20+ more hours of gameplay to be added as a simple free upgrade in the next few weeks. Chapter 2 was originally planned to be an additional application that would be sold separately.

This means the $9.99 Puzzle Quest: Chapter 1 will become Puzzle Quest: Chapters 1 & 2 which represents a remarkable value in the App Store. By our reasoning (not confirmed by Transgaming), this should include the entirety of the original Puzzle Quest Nintendo DS release, while Chapter 3 seems to represent a later expansion pack.

Just downloaded the Puzzle Quest 1.2 update. Performance/Readability is greatly improved.

I downloaded it also. The readability is perfectly fine. There is no problem at all there.

There is a little frame loss when you make connections on the puzzle but it doesn't effect gameplay at all and its more an aesthetic displeasure rather than a real one.

It's certainly worthy of a download imo now if you had held off before and really wanted it except for no multiplayer.

I just saw there was a Lite version of Crystal Defenders or whatever that Final Fantasy TD game is.

Aside from the fact it's a port of a standard mobile phone game, it's actually not that bad.

Damn I really wish I had a mac so I could develop. $500/day ain't a bad wage. :lol
500 a day is insane
I have a project at 70% and a couple in the early design stage... I really need to complete the first one asap :lol

Does anyone tip their touch/iphone like a see-saw instead of a steering wheel for racing games? I prefer it but it's main problem is the scree tips with it. It's because i'm too shakey turning the system like a steering wheel for games like fastlane.

So I was thinking, someone needs to design a device which clamps into the edge of a table or desk and allows the iphone to clamp to it to hold it still, then it's a true steering wheel :lol

The whole indie dev and iphone market is still growing too, most people who make app's for a selling price make their money back to cover the costs of licenses and their time easily, so there is seriously money to be made if you can do well and make something people like.

come on publishers - put one quality rpg on the app store..

Sold. Thanks for the new impressions. Hopefully Galactrix doesn't take as long to port over.

You can pick up a Mac Mini for $599 and have everything you need to dev. Pretty cheap investment considering the potential.

Yeah, but it's also not realistic. That's #300...out of 20,000. You think your app can get anywhere near selling better than 19,700 apps? Gotta have a lot of luck for that even with a quality app.

Yeah, but look at how many stupid apps went to #1. iFart? You kidding me? You could make a $.99 app that turns the screen black and advertise it as a "mirror" and people would still buy it.

Yeah, it's tough. My iPhone game, 30 and Dirty, sells on average, about 5-9 copies a day (and the game is far from shovelware.) If you want to make money, you'll have to make something that will appeal to the casual audience.

Play Horror Vacui, you sons of bitches! It's awesome!

BTW dude I am having a lot of fun with 30 and Dirty. As soon as I got the gun that shoots dogs I knew it was a winner.

Appstore reviews of Puzzle quest indicate that while the update improved the readibility, the actual graphics are still quite blurry?

I think people are nit picking at this point to nit pick. Could the map overworld be higher rez to improve things. Yes. But it effects nothing and the actual puzzle screen you use for combat isn't blurry at all imo.

I need to get a mac too to start making apps, but I'm kinda waiting for the updated iMac... I'd be fine with the mini, but I used it to make an application for a class and it wasn't the ideal solution (not as powerful as I would want it to be, or as fast). An updated mini would be perfect for me though, that or an iMac... :(

Odds are I'll just splurge on a 15" MBP...

Mac Mini's what I use at work to make iPhone games. Takes longer to upload the game to the iPhone than it does to compile it, and the simulator runs way faster on the Mini than the actual iPhone, so speed there isn't an issue. More speed would be nice, but I'm just saying for iPhone development the Mac Mini is quite usable.

Be aware that the Mini does not allow for dual monitors. For me, at least, this would be a deal breaker when it came to development (especially since Apple's docs are all digital).

Thanks Stoney, that was my only worry.

Not sure if it has been posted yet.

Quite a few games

Some highlights
7 Cities ($4.99 -> $1.99) - Some feel this is the best Tower Defense game on the iPhone.
Aurora Feint II: The Beginning ($1.99 -> $0.99) - The pay followup to the original.
The Creeps ($4.99 -> $0.99) - A very fun Tower Defense game. See our review. Highly recommended for $0.99.
SlotZ Racer ($2.99 -> $0.99) - Freeverse’s very fun and non-traditional racing game that has become a reader favorite. Now with a online custom level sharing. Easily worth $0.99.

Not sure about Sentry Alpha but Candy Wars is now free.

I just really wish they would come out with an updated Mini... I'd probably buy one that day if it did happen. I've been reading AppleInsider and other sites atleast a few times a day to see if any word is coming down the pipe about a new Mini/iMac because I feel they offer a better deal than the MBP, which are quite spendy in my opinion, and not all that powerful for the price you are paying. I do need to replace my old laptop though, so I might be kinda forced to go the MBP route :(
