Does the game follow the same storyline as the game or is there something different?
$7.99 seems a little pricey. I thought it'd be $4.99 or something. Might still buy it. I didn't even know it was coming out so early.
I can't really answer the question about the storyline as I haven't been reading it at all. I skimmed through the first paragraph of the story and saw "War has changed" blah blah, and figured it was probably the same. Definitely not the best thing to be doing late at night :).

Act I is called Liquid Sun so it looks to be similar.

Interesting to note that there is a Drebin shop to buy 3D art (apparently).

Anyone get Dance Dance Revolution S yet? I heard there's 26 songs and 18 playable characters in total. There are about 150 reviews up on itunes averaging 4 1/2 stars. I'm about to buy it right now. Hopefully, its fun like the reviews mentioned.

Man, 3.0 is going to deliver even more potential to this device as a gaming platform. Soooooo excited.

I love how most of GAF won't accept the iPhone as a true gaming platform, when it's handily the most exciting/important.
Handily huh? Interesting.

As you mentioned the app store reviews for it are excellent. There aren't many reviews out there by actual sites for it. This also was going to make my last genre list but I'll finish it up tomorrow as I'm getting sleepy.

But there's the problem - we could be getting a lot more good games, but too many people see it as "just another cell phone". As long as it's niche there'll be very few big-name developers making high quality games. Imagine what would happen if all those 30 million iPhone owners started using the iPhone as their main portable gaming device - that's approaching PSP numbers in far less time.

The iphone is so important because it is going to be the focus of most independent game development for the foreseeable future. The economics are off for big-budget gaming, but it is PERFECT for indy developers.

I think a lot of people push the iDevice to one side because it lacks buttons, until I brought one I thought the touch screen was like the DS' with a slightly soft touch and stylus use, but I love how the touchscreen is solid glass and only responds to your finger and nothing else, it's real smooth to slide your fingers around too for game controls like iDracula.

Hate how ppl are dissing MGS Touch for not being a 3D game. Can't they understand that it would mean: a. huge drain on battery b. bad textures? iPhone is not a PS3, textures would be on a level of MGS1 PC. I personally think BIA looks crap, I always appreciate devs going for cartoon/2D hand-drawn art where the hardware limits them.

Not to mention 3D MGS wouldn't really be anything new for the franchise, only a proof of how powerful iPhone is. I appreciate Kojima coming up with different game mechanics and making MGS game out of it.

C'mon we need more impressions, want to buy it tmr in Europe:D

BiA is a port of the DS game isn't it? I remember buying it on the DS for cheap but never got into it past like the 4th stage so sold it again, but it looks the same to me.

You know I would LOVE an Ouendan/Elite Beat Agents clone.

Any Rasta Monkey impressions? The price is low but I still can't bite even though I love the art style.

Impressions?

It's like Time Crisis meets Duck Hunt with MGS visuals and sounds. You can slide your finger anywhere on the screen to move the reticle (no need to drag it) and you tap to fire. If you release your finger from the screen, Snake will hide to avoid enemy fire.

The goal is to eliminate the enemy guards as quickly as possible to get the better score.

It's a OK game, worth the price. I would have preferred a MG Ac!d type game with MGS4 settings though.

It's OK but worth $7.99?

Questions like that are always relative...

It seems to be getting favorable impressions for a Time Crisis style shooter. But I won't buy it for 7.99 because there are simply better games out there for cheaper for me.

Same. Any turn based strategy game is a perfect fit for the iphone imo so they missed an opportunity to get my purchase.

I'm hardly a MGS super fan, I enjoyed the hell out of the first one on PSX but that was about it, but this looks a bit thin for $8. Seems like picking up Time Crisis Lite would be the best way to get a mild preview of what it has to offer since it is basically the same gameplay routine.

Early reviews are giving me the vibe that it's super glossy Lethal Enforcers reskinned with the Metal Gear Solid 4 world but without the light gun to even make it enjoyable.

ZZZZ.

Give me a lite version however and I'll be happy to check it out. I'm always open for a new fun must have title on my new Touch but I'll pass for now.

Oh man, I'm all over Metal Gear Solid Touch. Hooooot.

Also, keep in mind guys that there's a free update coming for MGST as well.

Can someone write more about the modes available? In the official description on iTunes they are talking about "Emblems" as well as "Survival Mode". Any new items or bonuses for that? Can you upload score to online leaderboards? Are there different difficulties? Any unlockables beside wallpapers? Are there achievements?

If you like TD games geoDefense is godly, esp. the graphic style. Same with Fieldrunners, but that's more pricey.

Fieldrunners looks good, only $3 now.

They have any classic JRPGs by any chance?:lol

I picked up the New York Times Crosswords app today. It's a bit too expensive ($9.99), but really well done. The interface works well, especially the "list" view where you can scroll through the list of clues and try to fill in each answer without seeing the puzzle as a whole. It also saves your progress on puzzles you're working on, and let's you compare scores with friends. Pretty cool. :)

I just bought and played the first 5 missions in Metal Gear Solid Touch.

Some more quick impressions;

The basic gameplay has been described above so I won't add much more except that you control a reticle and then tap to fire; you don't just tap on the enemies.

The storyline follows the exact storyline of MGS4 so if you're still waiting for the Xbox port (haha) you might want to stay away. There are a couple paragraphs of exposition before each mission and in the 20 minutes I played they actually filled in some details I missed when I dozed off during the interminable MGS4 cutscenes.

It seems that the player is limited to an assault rifle and sniper switched via zoom-flicking. At random times you can shoot the little froggies and receive a bazooka shot. I'm hoping there's more of this going forward.

Altogether, I'd say it's not the worth the $8 unless youre a big MGS4 fan. I was already getting bored with the shooting mechanics and hoping for something more.

I kept meaning to post about this app but I was too lazy to do it. There was another app that allowed you access to the NY times crosswords but it involved another step to the process so now that this available that's a much easier thing to do.

$10 is steep but the NY times crosswords is considered the gold standard one for American Newspapers so if you're into them it seems like a worthwhile purchase.

Also, I posted impressions earlier. I'm on my iPhone so kind of a pain to hunt now( might be on the previous page), but in short, it's very good.

QFT.

We're first with Silent Hill, and that's it. Waiting on DDR and MGS now. I figured DDR was due to the whole DDR/Dancing Stage thing, but there's no excuse for MGS.

I just bought DDR S, and I'm enjoying it so far.

Do you guys play with your thumbs or one-hand with two fingers? I usually play one-handed, and two thumbs occasionally for songs with hard freeze steps.

I have a question about the freeze steps. When I play on expert, sometimes they have freeze steps you have to hold, while pressing two other arrows. Example. Holding Up Freeze Arrow and pressing left right left right at the same time as the freeze. It's too hard doing those steps with one hand because I'm only using two fingers. With two thumbs it feels awkward because I have to press left and then jump over my thumb that's holding up freeze arrow to press the right arrow. Is there some sort of strategy to this problem except turning off freeze arrows?

Downloading MGS Touch. The first iPod Touch game I've bought......let's see how this goes

Just in case you get a taste in your mouth, let it be known that there are more interesting games out there than an MGS skinned duck hunt

Yeah.....I'm a big MGS fan so that's what got me. I do like it and it can be a solid time killer. But my god is there anyway to control the volume? If I keep playing I'm gonna go deaf.

MGSTouch is laughably bad.
It's outrageous, you should buy it just to see how bad it is.
It's all prerendered too, and the snake image has like a white cutout outline around it. :lol :lol

I've been playing with index-middle finger, kind of similar as I would play DDR proper, except I don't tend to leave my fingers on the pad. In the heat of the moment, I would add my thumb as an...um...ahem... third leg.

So what do you think of it? Did my comments earlier if you hunted them out convince you to get it? Oh man, I want a licensed Ouendan/Elite beats. Nearly tempted to pick up Saturday Night Fever, but that looks TOO disco.

A couple of questions for those who have time.

1. Is it a good time to buy an iPhone? I want to pick one up before I go away for the summer.

2. Does the App Store require a credit card? Or can it be charged to my network provider's monthly bill?

3. Are there any must have accessories for the thing?

Thanks in advance. :)
