The Official iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming Thread

I'm new to this thread. What are the absolute must-have games? I have no paid ones, but looking to buy some! So far I have only downloaded Fieldrunners.

edit: is there an easier way to sync applications to your iPod Touch? It's annoying when I connect my iPod and have to press sync and it goes through every app and takes forever. No drag and drop?

Is there any way to get a list of applications that you "own"

reason i ask is because i want to look up some of the games i might have bought/downloaded when i first got the iphone which i've since deleted

I could all sorts of recommendations if I only knew what your favorite genre of games are. Like what were some of your favorite Console/Computer games in the past?

I just got Fieldrunners and I absolutely love it.

My favorite games are normally FPS'es (Halo), but I wouldn't want to try that on a iPhone. I love a good puzzle game or a time waster. I'm not a huge fan of RPG's but I'd be opening to trying one. Thanks for the GREAT list snap0212!

There's a great article by one of my good friends about Mountain Sheep's upcoming game for the iPhone/iPod Touch called Minigore. You can read the article here.

It's a good read. :)

"Minigore is an awe-inducing representative of the survival shooter species. You step into the shoes of John Gore who finds himself lost in a strange place called the Hardland. Everything would be suitably nice and peaceful if it weren't for the darned furries. These black creatures seem to have an unexplained grudge against our blue-coated hero, and with so many of them out there John is very lucky to have managed to hold onto his machine gun!"

Teaser trailer here.

Hey what happened to 1112?

Episode 1 was released months ago. I loved the lite version but held off on the full version because I was afraid there wouldn't be frequent updates. Has the company said anything about the game?

Perfect Balance: Inferno is out (physics puzzler). Not too pretty looking, but good fun.

FULL version ($0.99): http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=316999614&mt=8
LITE version: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=317022837&mt=8&s=143441
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqHBY_pWUcQ&feature=player_embedded

Rotate and stack shapes, and try to achieve perfect balance in this physics puzzle! The second Perfect Balance game for iPhone & iPod Touch, 120 new and unique levels, new tricks and enhanced gameplay!

Perfect Balance was released as a Flash 9 game at the beginning of 2009, and over 5 million players have enjoyed its challenges after the game hit the biggest Flash games sites in the Internet world wide.

If you like games like Tetris, Topple and Super Stacker, you just might love Perfect Balance! Try out the free Lite version also available here on App Store, if you still not sure. Or check out Perfect Balance: Harmony (Full, Lite, TA) if Inferno is too scary or if the puzzles are too difficult.

So is there any expectation regarding today's WWDC keynote (beyond what we already know about iOS 3.0)?

Quick question about The Sims 3. Is it merely just a challenge run, or are you free to manage your Sim/interact in the world at your pace and just experience the dynamics of the world?

You should check out Crazy Machines... I dunno if it's even available in the US but if so, check it out!

Didn't see it mentioned here yet, I apologize if I missed it, but Monster Pinball was released last weekend and it's really very good. There's not a lite version, but at $3.99 you won't be disappointed.

App Store: Monster Pinball
It is fun, just two things I dont like:

The buttons for the flippers are small. I prefer having the whole screen (like in WW Pinball) to use them as holding the iphone right to use the buttons isnt very comfortable.

And there are some extra plungers on all tables the ball goes in pretty often which are not easy to use with big fingers. And they dont really add to the gameplay.

I'll admit the game does have a few useless plungers and some flippers that really seem to be placed in such weird locations.

What you should like, however, is that they've already stated that their first update they should be submitting any day now will change the flipper control to taps anywhere along the right and left sides. This will be nice as I've often found my fingers slipping off the tiny buttons and missed some key "flips".

Sorry for bumping this topic just for a "Yippeee!!!"

btw. the useless plungers are not that bad, there is only that one, I just cant see when operating it with my fat fingers and if you pull it 100% the ball just bounces back in...but with the update coming soon this even more a highly recommended app.

You do realize that you can pull on the plungers from ANYWHERE on the screen? Just touch dragging anywhere on the screen pulls down on the plunger, no need to have you thumb covering it.

Finally the first review of Star Ride was published yesterday:
http://nodpad.com/2009/06/05/star-ride-review-keep-reaching-up/

It's been a week since the release, I have to say... promoting your App on the AppStore can be harder than the development itself... hard and sometimes frustrating.

Anyway, I've been working on the first update that will implement the support to Geocade.com, so Star Ride can have a global, geotagged, leader board.
I should be able to submit the update to Apple monday or tuesday.
Again, any feedback is quite welcome

I can't stop pimping The Creeps...latest update uploads your score to Facebook (including the level's badges for level difficulty, "Perfect", all creeps killed, and all objects destroyed).

Awesome use of $0.99

Go to the itunes store and click "Account" in the Quick Links nav then "purchase history" under there in the middle of the page. It gives you everything.

StoneLoops! is a fucking awesome and addicting game. Its the same shoot the marbles formula, but very polished and well executed. Best game purchase Ive made in a while. Its discounted to 0.99 now.

Did they add any more levels? I <3 The Creeps. It's surpassed 7 Cities and Geodefense to become my favorite TD iPhone game.

no photoshop on this lappy, so I'll have to transcribe:

NEW in 1.2.1:
=========
* Publish your scores to Facebook! Includes pictures of the badges you earned ofr that score. show off to your friends!
* Sell button now goes to the side when there isn't room below. This was a popular request to prevent accidentally selling your towers.
* Upgrade button now goes to teh side when there isn't room above (same reason)
* Play balance change: You can only build up to 6 flashlights in any one level
* Fixed bug where the score and wave number could disappear if you sell a super tower while it is active

that's the latest update...the previous one was the one that added the ocean levels, and "Door buster" game type.

Maybe it's just me but as CUTE as Pocket God may be, it isn't a game as I understand it. It's a cute little entertainment app where you can have fun tossing little natives into volcanoes and such, right?

Yeah, but it's only $.99, and the devs keep adding content every single week. Everybody should have it.

I'm glad I bought Taxiball on a whim only to discover I can't play it without having an internet connection the first time I start it up. Good thing I have no wireless where I am for the foreseeable future.

Oh well. It was only a buck.

No, unfortunately, it *totally* assumes a connection. :P

There's a note about it on the App Store, and we took a little bit of a gamble in assuming that the number of people who couldn't connect that first time would be really low, but yeah - it requires a connection the very first time you start the game - after that, you can be completely offline (it'll update the server when/if it ever gets back online).

There is a note on the App Store page, but just to be totally clear - if your device is not, and never will be connected to the internet in some fashion, you can't play this version of Taxiball... :(

IF you are in this circumstance, PLEASE e-mail info (at) selfawaregames (dot) com. If we get enough demand to make it work without a connection, we'll do so.

Thanks!

I never thought the quality of games on a purely touchscreen device such as this would reach this level of quality, polish, and more importantly, playability. Its only in the past few months that Ive played games I would consider console quality on this thing. I guess thats what happens when the user base reaches such a critical mass. Resources and justified.

Hey, TheOneGuy - the update to fix that problem's done - we're banging on the build now to make sure it all works. Adding two levels in the process. Should be to Apple in a day, barring any screwups.

We're really sorry for the inconvenience, but it should be fixed really soon.

I'm new to iPod Touch gaming. That said, The Creeps is the best $.99 cent game I have ever played. What a blast!

I've been uploading perfect runs onto FB...I just love the motivation to replay each level and figure out how to perfect it. Great effin' game =)

They've done an amazing job on it, good to see it being rewarded despite the price tag.

Is it a full Sims game then, not some minigame fest?

Oh and Real Racing looks very impressive, nice to see some developers push the MBX core, its much more capable than many give it credit for.

it plays like Sims 2.5 (no mini-games)
-there is no create mode, but there's a buy mode.
-You can go outside your house and visit other people. (I haven't been able to go inside their house)
-Stores are menu base only.
