Has there been any new info about an update for Duke Nukem 3D? Is there in fact going to be one to fix the controls?

Great news about Lumines coming out though. Now if only Hexic would come out as well...

There is going to be an update but the app store approval process is fairly slow anyway so it will probbly be a couple more weeks at the soonest.

The fix to the controls was submitted nearly two weeks ago.

Nice update on the improvements coming to NFL 2010

Exclusive 'NFL 2010' Screenshots and Update Information
posted August 26th, 2009 3:43 PM EDT by Eli Hodapp in $4.99

While EA may have a complete monopoly on NFL games on home consoles, the App Store is wide open for competition between industry giants Gameloft and EA who both have rights to the complete NFL franchise on the iPhone. In what quite obviously is a warning shot across the bow of the U.S.S. Madden battleship, Gameloft sent us these screenshots this afternoon complete with some details on what is coming in the next NFL 2010 [App Store] update that should be live in the next one or two weeks.

The official NFL RSS feed has been integrated in to the main menu, it's also aware of what you set as your favorite team in the options and will show you news about that team along with general NFL headlines. While I don't see too many people launching NFL 2010 to get their football news for the day, it's nice to see games doing more with the internet connectivity of the iPhone than online scoreboards.

Player head shots have been added, along with improvements to both the offensive and defensive in-game AI, along with some difficulty balances adjusting how the game handles interceptions, passes, coverage, and other things like that. There will also be a new playbook with additional basic plays.

The NFL players database has also been updated to add Michael Vick to the Eagles and Bret Favre to the Vikings. This update is a nice turn for Gameloft who historically has not released content updates for their games and instead just focus on updates to improve performance, compatibility, or provide bug fixes. Gameloft seems serious about holding the line on NFL 2010 with the impending release of Madden 10.

This update alone would be substantial enough, but there's also a second update in the works with a release date that has yet to be announced which will add:

Online, Bluetooth and WiFi Multiplayer modes.
The ability to upload your best replays to YouTube.
A special Zombies vs Skeletons match.
Gameloft LIVE! compatibility.
While it remains to be seen how this battle between the App Store titans of the will resolve, these updates may make a decision to hold off buying until Madden 10 more difficult to stand by.

Feeling a little generous (also, bored) so I will give out a promocode for our game iFist today.
You will have to hunt for it though - it's hidden in my Blog!
Here's a hint- a game prominently (and famously) featuring an Uzi submachine gun

if you grab the code please give us a review at iTunes - let me know what you think!

Thanks gang - enjoy!

Seed looks ok. Like how they kept book form instead of how most games use the iphone. Wish it wasnt "action" and just plain rpg. But ill probably buy it anyways.

Turn based is really the way to go with an iphone rpg, it's really a shame noone wants to put the effort into making a decent one (or even porting some existing snes/ps1 era ones)

Modern Combat: Sandstorm Hands-On and Exclusive Trailer - Slide to Play

Youtube link

Haven't read the article yet... But I know quite a few of you guys are hot for this game.

Thanks for posting this! The game looks great and that was a really cool trailer, the ending was wild. I want this game now, I can't wait to play it.

I can't believe Backbreaker looks that good, and Seed looks like it could be a lot of fun. Honestly, Zenonia didn't hold my interest (maybe I'll give it another shot later) but that looked more fast paced and interesting.

I sat down yesterday and today to play some touch games quickly and then I realised, nearly all of my games on my touch are more towards feature length games then quick quirky ones, when I have a few minutes spare I don't get a chance to load up a game, setup a level or race and then play it fully before moving again so I really should grab a few quickie games at some point.

Why is Bust-A-Move not out in the UK?

Probably licensing and localisation. It will be releasing as Puzzle Bobble.

DDR, for whatever reason was released months after the US/Japan version.

I want some meatier games, I've listed the games I'm considering below, which ones should I check out?

Doom: Resurrection
Resident Evil 4
Metal Gear Solid Touch
Myst
Civilization Revolution
Gangstar: West Coast Hustle
Wolfenstein RPG
X-Plane Extreme

CivREv and/or myst, only because those games are full-fledged console games and not some 'mobile' version.

Alive 4-ever is out. 99c till the 31st.

Video

Alive 4-ever is a zombies-shooting game, with which players have a selection of 4 main characters coming from different backgrounds, trying to rescue hopeless survivors from a small town that was attacked by an unknown deadly virus which turned dead people into zombies.

Compared with the traditional zombies games, Alive 4-ever uses a more stimulating effect to create a thrilling ambience for the players to fully experience the different kinds of audio and visual effects. Besides the shooting component, Alive 4-ever has added other different elements like rescuing survivors and searching for vaccines, which highly increased the longevity of the game. Moreover, Alive 4-ever has fully utilized the Bluetooth function with the new OS 3.0 of iPhone (limited to iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G), which allows a maximum of 4 players to have fun and play simultaneously.

FEATURES:

It is definitely more than a shooting game

Alive 4-ever provides 30 missions for players, which includes eliminating a given amount of zombies, rescuing survivors in a given time frame, getting vaccines, defeating the big boss – The Origin, etc. Not only can players enjoy the fun of shooting games, but they can also prove themselves to be the real heroes in the story itself!

Develop and grow with experience to become the strongest character

Players will be rewarded with experience points after each mission. When enough experience points have been accumulated, the player level will be upgraded with the basic abilities, and at the same time, ability points will be rewarded as well. Ability points can help you with upgrading your selection of HP, maximum bullets, critical hit rate and curing efficiency to create your unique character.

Prepare the ground for battle

Alive 4-ever has provided players with 16 different types of weapons, which include AK-47, M16 etc. Players can also buy their favorite weapons with the gold they get after each mission. You would have to get the strongest weapon fast enough to save all the survivors!

Challenge the strongest

Being able to finish the mission already proves you are an outstanding warrior, but to be the Best of the Best, you would need to challenge the even stronger! Alive 4-ever not only has the basic level passing requirements, but also challenging conditions so the player will be rewarded with special equipments after the challenge. Hurry up and own all of the special equipments!

What else can be more fun than a fun and exciting game?

The answer is to be able to play a good game with families and friends. Alive 4-ever uses the Bluetooth function of OS 3.0 to connect you with your friends and families so that completing missions has never been easier!

My first impressions (after about 10-15 minutes of play)of Alive 4 Ever are pretty mixed.

Production quality is pretty high and there seems to be quite a bit of meat to the game. 4 characters with different starting stats/guns, rpg stat point allocations, 30 levels, unlockable equipment, etc. The story/instructions/menus are pretty horribly written. I find the controls a bit janky, it's fixed dual stick and the firing doesnt feel quite right. I'm not sure this method works very well with limited ammo (you cant just spray and pray geowars style). The onscreen controls are pretty huge and it feels like your thumbs cover more than like 1/3 of the screen.

I think it could be much more fun multiplayer, I'll try to get the fiance to play it with me, but bluetooth only makes it fairly unlikely to really play it that way much considering most of my iphone gaming is alone on the bus.

Definitely Gangstar. Not MGSTouch, I wouldn't put it in the "meatier" category, it's a pretty simple and casual game with a MGS theme.

Give Terminator a try, there's a lite version. I think it's a blast, some people hate it, lite is free so it's worth a shot.

edit: Sketch Hop is out, it's 3GS only. Apparently it is more of a "Play with this while the real deal is still cooking" game to show off some of the 3GS' power. It's a game where a ball is rolling and you touch to charge the jump and let go to make the ball jump over the gaps. Worth a look, it's nice visually. Free @ the store

I finished Spy Bot Chronicles. It was worth a dollar, I wouldn't pay 4. I really didn't like the last few levels. All of the levels in Zone 4 seemed like they were the exact same style as the levels in Zone 3. The boss battle at the end was not fun. I also was fine with the shooting mechanic until the end of the game. I was hoping I'd get more abilities than: jump, double-jump, shoot, and activate buttons.

I also finished the adventure mode in Spider. I just played a level or two a day every other day and it seemed like it would go on forever. I'm going to back and try to get high scores in the other modes now. It was definitely worth the 3 dollars.

Next I'm going for finishing Edge (still loooving it..on level 31/48) and the story mode in Peggle (what a fucking steal at a dollar).

Bought Alive-4-Ever as soon as it became available, probably my favorite top down shooter on the iPhone next to Minigore, but unlike that game, this game is already pretty packed with content. It looks great, controls great and the leveling up keeps it really addictive, only problem is that it seems the location is the same for each level, but for $0.99 it's a great bargain, friend and I played co-op for about 3 hours, awesome.

Like Alive 4 Ever much more than Minibore fest. Ability to upgrade stats & buy new weapons big plus. Unlockables makes me want to redo missions.

Isn't Minigore suppose to have update every week? Did I miss anything or did they just lie?
The second update/episode as been in submission for a few weeks now. I've only had a iPhone since like July but for some apps it's taking like up to 3-4 weeks.

I also bought it earlier tday and I think it's probably the best of it's genre for the iPhone. I also like that it's just not highscore hunt but also has a mission structure. The upgrade stuff is also great.

Not really on topic, but a decent warning to all the iStat users. The new version is out, 1.10, and they removed my single most used feature, Free Memory.

I'm firing up my time machine right now in the hopes that 1.0 is backed up.

Why are game updates taking so long to be approved? Surely anything that improves on an already approved app wouldn't take as long to process as a brand new app?

I get the impression that Apple are either understaffed or they are purposely delaying the release of apps for some reason.

wow, thanks for the heads up, I use that feature constantly. I definitely won't let that patch apply. Apple are being such d*&^ about some things. They can't seem to write decent memory management for the phone, so other folks write it for them, and they make them remove the feature? Lame beyond words.

I bought Alive 4-ever as well. Pretty neat, the only thing I don't like is that you run out of ammo and then have to use the pistol, which is horribly slow. And if you want to point at some enemy, either you point exactly at the enemy or you will spend a few bullets while pointing at the him.

But still, I'm liking this a lot. Something like this (experience, missions, etc..) for MiniGore would have made the game so much better and probably the best of it's genre, because it already had the looks.

it boggles my mind that Apple can do such blatantly dick moves and still retain such high customer loyalty. Definitely won't be updating this App.

Exclusive: Chillingo announces 3GS only Toki Tori Deluxe
The battle for snackable gaming supremacy heats up...

Product: Toki Tori | Developer: Two Tribes | Publisher: Chillingo | Genre: Platform, Puzzle
by Fraser MacInnes

With PSP Minis look set to include a fair few upgraded versions of iPhone games in their line-up, a la Fieldrunners, the onus is on the iPhone to keep pace with Sony's aggressive play for the snackable gaming market.

Enter iPhone hero Chillingo, which is taking its first step towards keeping the iPhone and the PSP on an even keel in the visuals department by releasing a souped up 3GS only version of Toki Tori.

We had a chance to sit down with Chillingo Director Chris Byatte at GamesCom last week and he explained: "What we will be aiming for is to get Toki Tori to match, and in some cases surpass, the graphical fidelity of the WiiWare original of Toki Tori."

Fighting talk indeed, and with additional particle effects, more environment layers, more moving objects and better interactive cut-scenes mooted, it's clear that Toki Tori Deluxe is going to deliver on its namesake.

Early adopters of the 3GS have had very little to show for their upgrade so far, so it's encouraging to see an established iPhone publisher like Chillingo getting to grips with the extra grunt so soon.

But with many developers still waiting by the sidelines to see how the market develops, taking the plunge now might well prove to be the smart move.

It's very likely that a third generation iPod touch will make it to market before Christmas, so chances are the number of devices capable of running upgraded versions of iPhone games is going to climb steeply before long.

Who knows, if Toki Tori Deluxe is successful it might even pave the way for an upgraded version of the phenomenal Zen Bound - fingers crossed. We can only dream, in the meantime, feast your eyes on the screenshots above.

Interesting.

I stand by what I said earlier. Bjango should take it off the store and release a new version, that way everyone who already has it retains the function (it doesn't prompt to upgrade).

Seriously, Bjango, do it!

Edit: I'll probably update anyway - dunno why, I thought I'd rather be up-to-date. I do use the memory feature a bit, but always felt like it was doing something nasty. Sometimes it did weird things to music that was playing, other times it would crash the phone.

Double edit: Actually, the new version adds device task list, which is pretty nice.

Interestingly, I'm not getting a prompt to update, even though 1.1 is live on my store.

Ok so I've upgraded iMech from just good to a blast to play. There are plenty of people on tonight and I'm addicted right now. I don't want to oversell it, it's not a super deep or developed mech game but it is good online mech deathmatch action worthy of 2.99 in my opinion. It's probably exactly what you'd expect when you hear "iPhone 3d online mech deathmatch" and nothing more, but it's a solid effort.

/goes back to playing iMech

I downloaded this last night. I feel like the game itself could use some work, especially in the controls, but it's pretty awesome to play online deathmatch games on your phone.

Any word on Word Ace? I've been reading up on the Palm Pre release of this game and I can't wait for the iPhone version to hit.

Who's all planning on picking this one up? There might enough interest in this for an official thread / list of GAF players.
