I downloaded Backbreaker expecting to make fun of how pathetic it was. WRONG. That game is awesome--perfect iPhone implementation.

Bingo. Somehow fell into the hype, thinking it had nothing for me. Not a huge football fan, and once I bought it I expected a let down.

Delivered, totally. Blasted through everything, replayed it a lot, and it was just a fun, visceral gamey experience that demonstrates exactly what iPhone games should be. Why make a watered down Madden? No, be creative, and tailor games to the device, and these guys did it.

Thanks for the link, Costanza. Great read. I think it's an accurate capture of the current mood. It'll be interesting, though, because I think Apple will realize they're going to have to do something, or their developers are going to have to abandon the platform if they want to maintain a viable business - and that that's terrible for Apple. They're incredibly smart, resourceful, and forward-thinking people - I'm sure they'll do something interesting, and I hope it's sooner, rather than later.

Thank God I can finally buy Edge - I've played Edge Lite three or four times. It's a relief to be able to a) give them some money and b) get onto the next level.

And BaSS released! Hooray! I'll wait for some impressions on controls etc, but that's a great price point as well.

Edge is very awesome and worthy of the hype. I played most of it but there was a level towards the end that I just couldn't beat and ended up giving up. Maybe I'll try again soon, but yeah...if you didn't have it, get it asap!

Stuck in the light version. :-/ Watched the question mark, but I can't stick to the block like that.

Dungeon Hunter is the first one of Gameloft's Weird-Al-style ripoffs that's been worth the loot to me. I had to choke back the bile as I paid for it, considering my disdain for Hero of Sparta and Modern Combat, but I'd heard so many good things that I couldn't resist. To my delight, it's terrific.

protip: switch to onscreen d-pad controls for these levels first to get the hang of edge time. start the move, then release, then push down again to try to keep the cube at a 45 degree angle to the top edge of the moving block

afterward, you can go back and figure out how long to hold down vs. letting go of the screen with drag controls to get the same result.

there's one level, called edge time, that has a super long section like that. I just couldn't do it before they added the on screen controls.

A thousand thank yous for bringing that game into my life, it looks badass. I absolutely love the graphic style and the gameplay looks awesome. I played a game with a hook mechanic on iPhone called Race for Home and it was a lot of fun, just too repetitive and short. I'm excited to play this.

i'd love to see a youtube video of beneath a steel sky, just to see how the interface is. no lite version i guess.

Never played it before, but beneath a steel sky seems like a nice port so far. Loving the music, laughing at the cutscenes and voice acting particularly in the intro!

Hi guys,

the final version Avoid Hitting Piano 1.2 (got to move on) was released. PM me if you want to have a Promo Code (10 codes total).

I tried to combine very simple gameplay with an interesting sound mix
(almost a story is told), it is more that a story is experienced from the outside... but you have to dig for the story (and listen careful to the sound clues).

enjoy!

Some dude from the industry named Thom Robertson came to my college yesterday to give a presentation. He has a game called Gunrazor. It's a fairly generic vertical shooter with some decent sprite work. Major downside is that it's pretty easy; I made it to level 8 without dying.

Regardless, it's only a dollar and it has OpenFeint.

Oh, and Galcon Labs is still the shit. Go buy it if you haven't already. Now.
Now.

Quick question - anyone have this happen?

I used to sync my Touch with my work Mac. Anything I bought in iTunes would copy over to the iPod and anything purchased on the iPod would copy to iTunes, so they always matched.

My work machine is in for repairs so I tried to sync with my home Mac this morning and got a message saying all of the apps on my iPod would be replaced with the ones in iTunes, which is NONE since I haven't synced on this machine before. So I cancelled.

Anyone know why the syncing worked both ways on my other machine but only seems to want to go iTunes>iPod now?

Did you reinstall iTunes, update iTunes, or maybe even install Snow Leopard? Any of these could have screwed your iTunes settings, I guess.

Yeah, I did install Snow Leopard and update iTunes. Maybe I'll look around the preferences.

Thanks!

Anyone knows why The Quest isn't available anymore in the Canada AppStore?

iTunes wants to update it but it cannot be found anymore. :(

The Lite version and expansions are there though...

I got a promo code for Avoid Hitting Piano, so I guess I have a greater obligation to give impressions about it than other games I've downloaded recently. Anyway, it sounds better with headphones. I haven't actually come across any pianos to avoid hitting, just people. The art style with the torn paper is kind of like And Yet It Moves, which is cool. The gameplay is pretty simple, but it's a decent little timewaster.

So I downloaded Topple2+ since it was free, is there any point in having the first one now? Playing this on iPod Touch 2nd Generation if that helps.

Device crashing bug was present, they gotta fix it.

Got Beneath a Steel Sky last night. Only played a couple screens so far, but it looks great. Interface seems to work well too. Plus, there's a hint system built into the game like the old UHS stuff from way back if you remember that. Gives you a clue or two, and if those don't help, you can get it to spell out exactly what you need to do. Looking forward to playing more.

I already have a few early/good twin stick shooters so I skipped minigore. Update sounds rather boring for "episode 2"

I am still playing hybrid in my spare evenings, Love that game so must it's easily in my top 2 iphone games list, with real racing being first.

I am crazy addicted to Freeverse's Skeeball.

http://freeverse.com/iphone-os/product/?id=9006

It's about as simple as it gets (slide finger to throw ball, repeat) but they did a fantastic job with the controls and physics, the latter of which is the real star. It's very easy to grasp exactly how fast you need to swipe your finger in order to land in the holes you want, so from there it comes a matter of fine tuning your technique and choosing your shots.

The multiplier system in Skeeball is pretty diabolical :lol If you land your ball in a sparkling hole, you gain a score multiplyer which will then gradually countdown with passing shots. The trick is that it carries over (with a slight penalty) to your next game, so you'll find that you literally can't just play one game. You keep going and going, swearing that you'll bump your multiplyer higher the next and the one after that.

Adding to its addictive quality is Plus+ implementation, which is always a bonus. Last I checked it was $1.99 in the App Store and its totally worth it. I've gotten more play out of it than pretty much any iPhone game I've purchased in the last few months.

Does Mr. Driller play well? And more importantly, does it have kick ass Mr. Driller music?

There's multiple control configurations, but the only usable one is the on-screen D-pad, which works pretty well.
