bit overly excited there no? WE've already had this on the Nes emulator and the fact we don't have analog support makes this quite moot at this point.

B-b-but... it's n64... Nintendoo... sixty...fooouu...

=<

Why wasn't I informed of the Wiimote-ness of the iPhone before? Seems pretty groundbreaking to me. Opens up a lot of possibilities.

Overexcited-ness aside, it's still a sweet emulator worth $2.50.

If you're not jailbroken yet, you have no excuse.
Sorry, I'm a newb when it comes to jailbreaking, but I was under the impression that if you jailbreak an iPhone, your carrier could very easily tell and deactivate the device on their network if they chose.

Confirm or deny?

To my knowledge this has never happened ever.

Is Civ Revolutions identical to the console/handheld versions? I'm considering getting it, and I remember they got favorable reviews.
Feature-wise, its almost identical to the 360 version. The only thing it lacks is the DLC. Graphics are very different of course, but it still looks nice. Still the best iphone game to me.

It is close, just get the lite version and try it.

EDIT: Sorry I misunderstood, yes it is close, if you like the iPhone one you will love it on the console.

I don't buy emulators. I'll donate to projects I like, but paying money to be able to download them just seems very shady.

Not to mention playing on the iPhone? With a wiimote? Why? If you're at home, play on your Wii, if you don't have a Wii play on your 64, if you don't have your 64 play on one of the various 64 emulators on your PC or if you have a PSP on there.

Peggle is on sale for $1.99.

Also, if anyone is looking for a good Twitter app, Twitbird Premium is free right now. It is the Twitter app I use and I'm impressed with it.

Has anyone beaten the
Space Kraken
in MiniSquadron? I swear it's impossible! If so, what planes are you guys using? Some of these planes are a mission to unlock.

So, one or two days ago, the iPhone got an N64 emulator from Zodttd, available on Cydia for $2.50. Two days ago, it was pretty impressive to see Mario 64 run on my iPhone, but the framerate was bad, and the controls were worse.
With all the jailbreaking and pirating being rather annoying people here actually buy stuff from Cydia or what ever it is where you pay for homebrew stuff aka emulators? :/

I'm all for homebrew, part of what makes the iphone platform but I can't stand people who buy from unofficial places for things which only work on jailbroken devices.

Better than tweetdeck?

The only thing I bought on cydia is 3G unrestrictor so I can download app over the 10meg limit if i'm not on wifi. Other then that I agree.

I used the Sniper (5th column, 3rd row) after getting really frustrated by that level. It's very fast (something like 500-650 mph), has a quick turning rate, and uses the cluster bombs, and if you get right up on the enemy planes underneath them and fire, it should take most out in one shot, and then you can zip away out of the way of the laser.

Awesome, this worked. On my way to unlocking all the planes but its gonna be tough.

I did the same. The clusterbimbs allow you to blow up an enemy with one hit if done right, allowing you to get the bonus points for totally destroying them rather than letting them crash. It's how I'm also unlocking the ships.

The UFO cluster bomber is also useful for those same reasons but it appears its turning speed is its fault. Tried with that for a while and it didn't work out so well. Singularity I believe its called, last row.

Man, I want a MiniSquadron 2. I can imagine the possibilities with a larger budget so to speak with the game.

That's a silly way of thinking. The reason why I buy things from Cydia and Rock is because there are tons of apps that get denied on the AppStore that truly deserve to be purchased. We all know Apple has a stupid way of approving apps, so Cydia is a healthy alternative for developers who want to release their product without Apple breathing down their neck.

Stuff like MyWi, which turns your iPhone into a wireless router for anything with wifi to tether off of, is a phenomenal product that frankly should have been included on the stock iPhone. I should have the right to purchase it and the creator should have the right to sell it. I am strongly against all forms of pirating and have purchased well over 100 apps from Apple's AppStore, but that doesn't mean I'm against alternative application sources.

I encourage everyone to jailbreak since the bottom line is that it makes your phone just so much better.

Ps: Merry Christmas GAF!

So I just got a 32GB iPod Touch. Anyone know how to jailbreak the 3Gs?

Untethered btw.
3GS iPhone or third generation iPod Touch? I believe all the fourth generation ipod touches (including the 32GB) can't be jailbroken untethered.

I have the newest iPod Touch, which I hear is 3rd generation. 32gb.

=( Doesn't tethered mean I can't turn off my ipod? Damnit...

An untethered jailbreak program will come out eventually right? (I don't really know the big tethered vs untethered bs)

iphone GOTY: C&C Red Alert. Handheld RTS done perfect. Overpriced on release, but with the discounted game and cheaper add-on campaign, it's the right price for some seriously fun strategy, complete with multiplayer.

love the idea. Hook Champ for me by a mile.
geoDefense Swarm for me... Even voted for it in the main GOTY thread. Love the visuals and the challenge and how the iPhone "fits" with td games.

Anyone have any recommendations for the best tower defense game for iphone?

For me, it's The Creeps!, but I'm a bit more casual in that respect. Worth checking out at the least.

Also popular:
GeoDefense (Geometry wars inspired effects, and tough as nails)
GD Swarm (hex-based version of GD)

Haven't tried but popular:

FieldRunners (one of the first. Make your own path. Being ported to PSP)
Star Defense (I think that was the name. high production value 3D)

Untethered will come out EVENTUALLY but patience is probably good to have. Tethered mean you just cant let your iPod battery die or mod it in such a way that requires it to reboot (i.e. Winterboard. You can test it out with Blackra1n once to see if its 3G or 4G and let the battery die if you really want to see.

Just got a iTunes Gift Card for Christmas, what games should I get GAF?

Real Racing or NFS: Shift?
-I'm leaning towards RR just because I played the demo and liked it, but
it does seem a little too sim-ish.

How is the Simpson's game?
-It looks awesome but not a big fan of the re-skin, limited characters, etc.
Also kinda concerned about controls.

How Is Monkey Island?
-Looks awesome but $8 is hella expensive.

Any recommendations would be welcome.

And FUCK SEGA. $8 for Monkey Ball 2? $4 still for Monkey Ball 1? Are you serious?

Hey, me too! Mine was $15. What I'm wondering, is should I go for full versions of lite versions of games I've tried and liked, or should I take a risk and go for something without a lite version? If the latter, which are the best games without lite versions, or at least the least risky to get? (My iTouch is full btw, so I'd prefer smaller games.)

i was waiting around hoping there'd be some good sales on games i want to get today........every app company seems to be sale-happy until the day that everyone has gift money they wanna spend in the appstore, eh?

The Simpsons Arcade isn't a reskin, it's a whole new game (a very well done game) with homages to the old arcade game. A bit short, but that's par for the course when it comes to most beat em ups. The controls are fine.

Does Apple allow prices to be changed on Christmas Day?

The Creeps is indeed good, but you left out the best tower defense game of all time:

Defender Chronicles. Tower Defense mixed with RPG elements. It's deep, it's addicting, and it gets excellent support from the developers.

Good stuff. Yeah I haven't played a ton of iPhone games or been into buying a bunch, but there are a couple ones I really dig that I play when I'm waiting for a meeting, etc.

I'd recommend:
-Skee Ball ($0.99)
-Ramp Champ ($1.99)
-Super KO Boxing 2 ($2.99)
-Time Crisis Strike ($2.99)
-Trace (Free)
-Paper Toss (Free)

And the only non-games apps I've bought are:
-AwesomeNote
-iStudiez Pro

Been looking at a couple other ones: Nova, Spider, Canabalt, and but waiting to hear more/read more before I make a purchase.

Stingy, stingy. Well that and some I rarely play, like Oregon Trail, as well made as it is.

Hey guys,

Thought I'd help my mates out and pimp a bit of their new game Train Conductor which can be had for AUD2.49 on the App Store. Not sure if that translates to US 99c but it's definitely a very polished game with great controls, achievements and a very addictive experience.

It's in a similar vein to Flight Control where you're basically delivering trains to their correct line but there are some very cool gameplay elements explored here.

Not sure if I can embed vids on here but have a quick look at the video for the feel of the game:

"Unmistakably addictive and delicately designed, the fluidity of controls in this title alone works like a charm."
- diygamer.com

"Really clever, with a ramping difficulty level, clever yet simple mechanics, spiffy presentation – the boys are onto a winner."
- AustralianGamer.com

"Train Conductor will become an App Store classic along with Flight Control, Harbor Master and Doodle Jump."

That's almost an understatement...I'm constantly amazed by the amount of content they add in each update.

For those playing Hook Champ - are you using casual or pro control setup? I've been using casual so I decided to check out pro, and I was totally lost. Feels completely different.

Are there any good turn based tower defence games? Eg like tapdefense which pauses after each wave to let you take a breath/plan. Only problem is I don't really like tap defense - so something more like geodefense or fieldrunners which are my two favourite TD games on iPod
