Were you responding to something? I can't find any discussions on OpenFeint or anything. Anyways, if OpenFeint throws off the aesthetics and design of a game, then that game's designers are at fault. OpenFeint doesn't require ANY special branding or logos. They recommend using their buttons and stuff, but don't require it. And OpenFeint does more than achievements, it also does online leaderboards, game challenges, chatting and stuff.

I wasn't responding to anyone in particular. Just looking down at my homescreen and noting the logo, which breaks the flow.

I don't have an Xbox, so never got into achievements. I get the point, and I understand it's a selling point too, I just personally never got involved. I do like occasionally glancing at it - so I always turn it on, but I find going in to openfeint from a game is kind of janky, it kn. of feels like going back out to safari or something. Doesn't feel fully integrated. I wish the achievements list were basically in game, and just linked across without having to 'go to openfeint'.

It's no big deal really, just musing.

And to those playing Sword & Poker, yeah, it's a great little diversion. It's not super deep, but definitely engaging and most certainly worth a few bucks. To those who are just starting out or want to give it a go, don't get put off by the early levels. Both myself and a friend weren't convinced about it early on, but once you get a few levels in and you start getting a few more spells and stuff you do get into it.

Aurora Feint 2: Arena Daemons is free today.

I'm trying to download this.

On the search page, it's displaying it as free, but when I go to the actual app page, it wants to charge me $4.99.

There is also Strikers 1945 PLUS but its $5 and I read its a bad port.

I find GTA: CW to be a sucky game with the touch interface. The implementation itself seems to be stellar so far, 1:1 game-logic-wise, improved graphics and custom radio stuff is all neat, but I'm constantly fighting with the controls. Steering cars is a pain in the ass.

Fuck this game, a waste of my money at this point. Maybe I'll train myself enough to somewhen get enjoyment out of it, but right now, I'm pretty pissed that it's reviewed so well, but sucks so much.

I gave Tumbledrop a glowing review (in German), but I'm unsure whether it actually ended up in there. The review writing interface sucks on the App Store - if you lose WLAN in the process and submit with the net down, have fun writing it all over again. AGH

Necromancer Rising is now available on the App Store. Sounds like a relatively hardcore dungeon crawler RPG; there are 50 levels with 49 bosses, all dynamically generated, and comments I've seen seem to indicate that it's pretty well done if you're into hardcore dungeon crawlers. I'm still on the edge about picking it up, but it's certainly tempting.

MasterTeacher, Peggle was one of my inspirations when I made Tumbledrop! :)

Thanks! It showed up! :D I didn't realise you were in Germany! I was trying to push sales in Germany for a while, and I had one good day of sales there, but I think I need to translate my product description into German.

Good news on the FF's. I really don't get why there aren't more turned based rpgs on ipod. It seems to maker more sense to me than an action rpg. Hopefully capcom ports the SNES/PSX breath of fires.

Code:

There you go. I did my best in trying to make it sound appealing and fresh. Beats a literal translation in any case :)

I'm still stuck on epsiode 2 but Tryrian is fucking great for finger shooters... justbe sure to set the controls for relative for it to be good.

Just keep in mind that by buying Tyrian you are supporting people who are selling something that isn't theirs. They ported the game to iPhone without the permission or even knowledge of the original developer and rights-holder, and wrote the game to pirate the original game's data files on first run (then on their website they printed the license agreement originally included with the game's purchase, as if that makes it all legal)

Interesting. I've been getting to shooters on the iPhone for some reason, but don't want to support shady practices. Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

I got a few promo codes for the iphone game I worked on, Valet Hero.

All the codes have been handed out. If I get some more I'll let you guys know!

The first 3 people to send me a private message I'll send along a promo code. I'll edit this post when they are all gone.

Just a note, I believe these are for the US itunes store only...

Any feedback would be very appreciated. Hope you enjoy!

I'd ask for one if my iPod weren't completely full...

Rew, I just bought Valet Hero! (I'm in the UK)
Looking forward to trying it out!

Wunderbar! I've updated the app description, it should show in a few hours.
Should I change Tumbledrop Free to Tumbledrop Kostenlos, or is that overkill, like renaming it to "Wäschetrocknerdroppen Frei"? XD

I'm enjoying Valet Hero, and I just gave you a review! The 'back in' idea is an interesting spin on the Flight Control style thing, although I'm still getting used to it. One thing I don't like is that at the end of the level five gold stars appear, and then they change colour to the actual number of stars you get. "Oh, I got five stars! Wait, no, I just got three..." it's a little disappointment at the end of each level. :) My Openfeint ID is 'Docky' by the way, please feel free to add me.

Definitely overkill. But the description should actually contain the correct number of levels and medals for the free version!
And is the Quick Play mode even included?

Oh, yes, I'll trim out those lines of the description for the free version.

Does OP still post in here? We should have a nice list in the OP of games GAF recommends. Instead of having people asking what games to get on every page.

Just a thought.

I was looking at Skate or Die, is this basically Canabalt on a skateboard? The title had me all hyped for the old C64 game, boo...

Just returned the favor and reviewed Tumbledrop on the app store. I've been playing for the past hour and I am very impressed.

The graphics are so charming, and I really like the medal system, so far I've been going for heart medals, but I can definitely see myself playing through each level again, to go for the stars. I'm also really enjoying the difficulty so far. I haven't become frustrated or stuck for to long yet, which tends to happen to me on these types of puzzlers.

Oh, and I love the name Starfruit games!

Very very well done! :D

Sorry if this has been asked, but what's the best racing game? I'm looking for something with quite a satisfying career mode, looks great and plays well.

Thanks Rew! :D Really glad you're enjoying it, and sometimes those heart medals are even harder than the star medals!

Uhhh, Chinatown Wars and FF1 and FF2 aside, has anyone played "PathPix" (http://itunes.apple.com/se/app/pathpix/id314306149?mt=8)?

Maybe it´s been mentioned way back in the thread but this game got me hooked like heroin.

It´s sort of a puzzle crossword game with numbers instead of words and letters. It´s really really awesome and a long experience. The normal version has 169 levels and the first 25 hs taken me like 2 or so hours to complete. And the later levels just get bigger and take longer time to complete... Awesome experience!

There is a Pro version (http://itunes.apple.com/se/app/pathpix-pro/id338509060?mt=8) as well for the ones that´ve mastered the normal version...

Lite here:

Thanks for the recommendation! I hadn't heard of the game and it's frankly awesome. Actually works much better than the Picross clones that I've played around with.

The only thing that sucks is that it's pretty much a rip off of a DS game that was Euroland only that I had shill out quite a bit more than $2 to import :(

On the plus side the manual was all in French and I couldn't figure out how to play this mode in the game. Problem solved and now I get the added bonus of having a great game that's in color to boot!

Also +1 for Tumbledrop and it's also an absolute joy to play!

Speaking of Picross games, I've tried a bunch on the App Store and PicGrid is my favorite. There's a Lite version out there to try for free.

Dock - Tumbledrop is awesome, graphic style too it is fantastic. Really good stuff ^^.

Never got into Broken Sword even when it was out for the PC - any good? Mobile version worth dropping the cash for?

The first two Broken Sword games are amazing, great stories and great puzzles. Directors Cut version has some nice new touches like the new art, which makes it a bit more playable for newcomers.

i got a konami game for 99¢, it's called tomena sanner and it's really insane. you could almost call it a funny version of canabalt. you're a japanese businessman who's late i guess, and constantly running forward but streetpunks, giraffes, easter island heads, martians are always in your way. you tap in rhythm to dodge everything, and the animations that happen if you dodge perfectly are AWESOME! you do kung fu moves, breakdance, moonwalk, it's really well done. some of the obstacles actually get in a big line and it turns into a big dance set-piece. it gives me a lot of happiness for so cheap.

Just found this in the UK store today - presentation is just funny as hell haha really fun game. Sort of reminds me of a cross between Feel the Magic and Katamari in terms in its visual inspiration.

Thanks for the chime in Vinter, will pick it up when I get to a wifi connection again ~

Hey all, I'm giving away promo codes for my steampunk gravity wars game Bombardiers Guild over on the 148apps.com forum. US iTunes users only I'm afraid.

Now that forum doesn't get a lot of love, so I'm linking it here as well:

Just wanted to chime in with some more feedback/comments..

I'll be honest, I tried a game or two that utilized gravity to affect shots and they weren't nearly as fun as I had hoped.

That having been said, B.G. was a lot of fun admittedly. Maybe it was the graphic style, maybe it was the "artillery genre" (which I'm a fan of) but I have to admit, I was impressed :)

I appreciated the in-game explanations for everything, telling a story, rather than throwing you out of the story by saying "SLIDE THE SWITCH RIGHT AND LEFT TO FIRE". Specifically, why you can't just fire straight across to hit the opposition was a nice touch.

As a 360 player, I'd like to see what kinds of achievements you build into things.

I have to agree on the AI though. I was doing great until I hit a wall around level 8 or 9? The AI was relentless as soon as it found the right "coordinates" and just hammered me.

Thanks also for the "quick pause" feature (shaking the ipod).. my daugher would interrupt me often and being able to pause it without trying to hunt for a tiny icon was very helpful.

Anyways, everything was top notch -- the sound effects (clanking and ratching, as well as the explosions) the graphic display (fading trail arcs, explosions, etc), etc.

Thanks for the free preview, looking forward to future updates!

I'm going to wait on a price drop, but after Beneath a Steel Sky I am very impressed with how those guys handle the controls in their adventure games. ... in fact I need to finish BaSS >_<

EDIT: Dont know if this was posted but Mega Man 2 is on sale for .99

Just finished getting all medals on Easy in Tumbledrop. I have to say, I both love and hate the random nature of the game. That said, I wouldn't have kept playing it if it wasn't strangely addicting. And yeah, on some levels the heart medals seemed near impossible to get.
