The more I think about it, the more I'm so infuriated I bought Crayon Physics. Oh well, not the first 99c game I've bought and disliked nearly immediately and won't be the last.

Thanks for the info. I just bought Crayon Physics Deluxe. On the topic of physics based games, I also bought Implode! last night. It's a game where you are given a structure and you have to try to take it down with dynamite. You're given certain types/amounts of dynamite to use, and of course your explosion is rated based on various things. Fun game.

Implode is fucking awesome.

So as of late I've been having an issue with some of my apps (games mostly) that when I launch them, they show the open screen and then jump back to the iPhone menu. All of apps are up to date and everything else (facebook, twitter, etc.) load just fine. Any suggestions?

Surprised nobody's suggested this yet: reboot the device. As in, hold the reset button in until you are given the option to turn it off, do so. Once it's fully off, turn it back on. This makes sure memory is clear - when the iPhone is running low on memory, it shuts down the currently running app, and if the app allocates a lot of memory right at the start, you may never see anything beyond the initial screen (which shows up while the app is loading into memory). For some *very* memory-intensive games such as X-Plane 9, it's suggested that you always reboot the machine before playing.

I had the same issue when I bought GTACW. I had to reset the thing to factory settings; I've tried everything else to no avail, that was my last resort and it worked.

Probably depends on what happens during installation (which files are written to which directory and shit like that).

I love free app a day and Fun Touch (some French iPhone blog) :D

I rarely buy anything for my iPhone because most games don't appeal me and the app store is quite a mess to browse (even with the new interface, but it's better). Also, I don't have a 3G data option.

I'll get those free apps as much as I can.

Question: I had to restore my phone and lost a couple apps that I hadn't synced with my computer. How do I go about redownloading these apps through itunes without being charged again?

Never tried it, but I read if you click buy on an app you already bought, you won't be charged again.

Long as your account is signed in on itunes just go find the app and click to buy/download it like normal, it will ask to confirm and then tell you after clicking to buy it that you already own it.

What's annoying is if you make a mistake and actually didn't own the game you thought you had last summer, and end up buying it.

To double check what you own you can go to your account info somewhere in itunes I forget right now and see your perches history.

All apps are tied to your account, so if you buy something on your iPhone it's also bought on the computer or any other device tied to the account.

My only complaints about Sword & Poker are that you can't play your music while playing (afaik) and it gets a touch dull around floor 25. Amazing value though.

This probably been answer already. If I am resetting the device or take out an app from my device, and then reinstall it again, will I lose the saves in it? Or does the save saved into iTunes?

I could swear that some apps remember things or settings, but I may just be going crazy. As for games, though, your saves will be gone.

The save is part of the app, so if you delete the app, you lose your save. When you backup the device, saves are backed up as well (since it backs up everything).

I think some apps have save data server side but I think it's kinda rare. They either have an account setup or they just automatically tie the save data to your device ID (which acts as an automatic login kind of).

OS 3.2 on the iPad apparently has an official shared file area so hopefully apps start using that for save data in the future (at least optionally)...assuming that comes to the iPhone as well (it would explain them telling devs to not use their current workarounds).

You can do a restore from a backup and your saves will be there, if memory serves.

Yeah but they're only as recent as your last backup. But still...it is nice for when you upgrade. Just sucks to leave stuff on the phone because you don't want to lose the save (even if you have no interest in playing again for a long while...it's always that "maybe I'll show so-and-so that thing I unlocked or boss at the end"). But I'm starting to just rmove stuff I don't use anyway. If I really want to I'll install it again, if I was only half-way through it and I haven't played it in a month, I probably won't play it in a year anyway.

That's why games that are pick up and play are best on the iPhone to me. Anything that requires time, is just a waste of my own. I'm never going to finish Ravensword on the iPhone. It was neat to check it out though. But I can play Canabalt today and delete it off my phone and install it later, and have lost nothing. Much better IMO. But everyone uses their devices in different ways. The various Tower Defense games are a real pain to me though. Thankfully GeoDefense will remember your spot once you log in to open feint.

Since it hasn't been mentioned here, I might as well say it. Sonic The Hedgehog 4 is slated to hit the Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, AND iPhone THIS JULY! :D Can't wait until se see the first screens.

I've just had my iPhone game appear at the app store today called "Super Search 60". Thought you all might be interested in taking a look.

http://linktoapp.com/super+search+60

I'm taking a very different tack with the usual "lite/full" version. This is a near fully featured lite version. You get 20 minutes of online play each week. If you pay the $2 as a one-off payment, then you get unlimited play. Scores are linked to facebook and are reset weekly.

Youtube trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2z6cwuNPKQ

Hope ya like it!

I didn't know where to post this...

But what game music do you recommend turning into a ringtone?

I just turned Vs. Ho-oh from HG/SS into one, and Pursuit Overtaken from Ace Attorney 4

I have no problem playing my own music in Sword & Poker (headset).

Personal rule of thumb, for me anyways, is anything that "Marimbafies" well. What this means is take a VG song, and make it sound like a stock ringtone. For example, here is a custom Marimba take on Rosalina's Observatory and Godot's theme. Another thing to keep in mind is to make sure that the main part of the tone does not exceed 11 seconds, that way you can hear all of the main part and still be able to answer the call before it's too late if you are one of those types of people. I personally let most of my tones (I have hundreds BTW) go on for the full 40 seconds so they can be used as good alarms as well! Chiptunes don't usually work well due to the tinny speaker, so try to fine-tune it with audacity. Here is an example of fine-tuning at work with tones based from the note board from Game & Watch Gallery, and Run Run Run from Gameboy Camera. The "fix" can be something as simple as adjusting the pitch ever so slightly, though I sometimes adjust tempo as well so it fits the 11 second mark. I hope these little tips have helped you out, and feel free to ask me any more question on ringtones should you need any help.

How the hell do I get a Japanese account? I need me some taiko!!

Disable the music in the Options menu and your music library will continue playing when you launch the game.

Thanks. I usually do that but for some reason I must have done it wrong here.

I haven't really been following the news on that recently released Mass Effect comic but anyone know why it doesn't work on the first generation iPod Touch? Seems kind of weird to me unless there's something else about it.

I got a question: why the hell is Mystery House $6? :lol

Also, I checked out some game called 1000:Find Em All! where you walk around and fill in a map, and look for 1000 collectibles. It's not really much as far as being a game goes, but I like it anyway so far.

anyone else trying for the flick fieldgoal highscore? my score is pretty pitiful now but if I got that 100$ gift card I'd be set for app store purchases for months and months :lol

SO I gave Crayon Physics Deluxe the benefit of the doubt,a nod despite hating the performance, I decided to plough through it, especially since eI paid for it.

I finished all 50 levels, and it's actually alright. Not worth the $4.99, and maybe not even the 99c really, but it's ok. The rope makes all the difference. My main problem is that you can pretty much use the same technique to finish all the levels - that is to make a box around the ball, anchor it with a rope to another box - drop that off an edge to pull the box with the ball to the star.

ANyone tried Space Miner yet? That looks cool and is getting rave feedback.

Space Miner is great, take one part asteroids, one part rpg, and one part crazy uncle jeb and you got a bucket full of awesome. Expect to be blasting asteroids, enemies, bosses and upgrading your ship as much as possible.

Only thing I don't like is the Banjo music, it's fitting but ...it's banjo music :S

Seconded, thirded, fourthed, AND fifthed. People need to buy this game.

How are the controls? Bear in mind I have yet to find a virtual stick implementation that I can get on with :/

The controls are spot on, though it may take a bit of getting used to if you never played a game like this before, you aim the ship with the V-stick and to move in a direction you press the thrust button.

They also have an option in the controls menu to move the stick to the right or left, to make it auto shoot and to ability to change the thrust and movement all to the V-stick but it didn't feel right that way.

We just made Flick Kick Field Goal free for 24 hours to celebrate the Super Bowl.

If you do grab the game, make sure to rack up some online high scores in Sudden Death mode as we are running a competition for a $100 iTunes voucher.
Just out of interest, why isn't there a football (soccer) variant of this game yet?

Would seem pretty simple to apply the same basic principles to a football free-kick game. Could even have a wall of players to add a bit more variety.

It has been discussed internally, and we'll probably do one at some point as we have a few ideas around it. Going from Rugby to Aussie Rules and American Football was the easier win for the short term, and there are a lot of soccer goal kicking games out there already.

Huh, just got some funky bug with Flick Kick FG. I couldn't tell the exact situation but I was on the 3rd level I think. My kick hit the upright and crossbar, and scored twice?...then it gave me a game over? The score screen showed points through the 3rd iirc, then 4th and 5th with 0, then a few points on 6 and 7, and 0 on 8. I've gotten the double score before (but not the upright+crossbar achievement), but that didn't give me a game over. I think it screwed up the score tally though, like it skipped one of my kicks.

Also OpenFeint screwed me up to show me another achievement again, boo!
