Space Harvest is $2 this weekend, and it's a pretty cool, laid back style RTS that really plays well on the iphone. Retro style graphics are another plus.

Posted this in the OT, but for those who only stay on the gaming side...

(I'm sure this is posted all the time, but I would appreciate the suggestions!)
I'm a new iphone owner(3GS), and I'm completely ignorant of any good games for the iPhone so any must have recommendations (not just new ones) would also be appreciated. What I'm looking for is mostly games developed specifically for iphone, not interested in old snes ports or something (I'm sure theres some exceptions of course, just a general rule). Also, are there any good advance wars clones?

Give me some suggestions and I'll check em out! Thanks

Devil Invasion needs waaaaay more attention. For those not on board: At first, it seems like a Puzzle Quest clone, but it just amps up everything with some light tower defense mechanics and putting you on a clock. Instead of taking on one AI opponent, you fend off a relentless horde of monsters wrecking down your towers and castles. The longer you take to play, the more damage those monsters do and the lower your combo bar which gauges how strong your attacks are. I'm playing on Normal and I'm finding it insanely hard.

It's like playing Puzzle Quest in a glass tube with a dwindling air supply; it's insanely intense. There's a Lite out, if you want to give it a spin.

As someone who's never played a JRPG is it worthwhile starting at the beginning?
FF2 is an interesting game, and in my opinion really shows how daring and different the FF games were from other rpgs even back then. If I had to choose between the two, it would be that.

That said, neither are good for those trying to enter jrpgs

Sword & Poker looks fun but the art style (specifically of The Damned...) kills it for me.
Not quite the same, but...try Dungeon Solitaire, I've seen comparisons between the two, generally people who like one like the other (though Dungeon Solitaire doesn't have a overarching campaign or anything). And Dungeon Solitaire is built entirely around art, with every card unique (you can see screenshots in a post above).

Note for fairness...Dungeon Solitaire is my baby, at least programming-wise :) But people at my work are digging it, and it's reviews are mostly positive so far, so I'm not just recommending it because I made it (I don't make money off of sales).

I want to try pushing it again, in case it was missed.

Want to suggest Spirit [99¢] after finding it on Apple's Hot New Games list.

Been playing this for several hours now and it's a lot of fun. You control the spirit and create temporal distortions in the level that sucks the enemies into them. Very fun and very good controls. I love the graphic design as well, kind of has a Geometry Wars vibe to it. Fantastic game.

Gameplay.

I have to admit that I like what I've played of "We Rule" so far. To start off, the only FB free-to-play game I've played is Mafia Wars. I've never tried Farmville and other similar games. I also have never paid for "Godfather points" in Mafia Wars, but have got lots of play time out of it, and for some reason I have enjoyed it (still not sure why).

Anyways, We Rule is nothing like Mafia Wars. To me, it feels like a Sim City / Age of Empires cross (but with only the building part). The game is more graphical than something like Mafia Wars which is basically text based. I'm guessing the farming part is a lot like Farmville, but I can't be sure. I like the farming part, but to me it is only a part of the game. The building and upgrading, along with the interaction with others towns (there is a small NeoGAF group already) is the much larger part.

As for the "pay" part, I can see why someone would want to buy "mojo" to speed things along, but I'm happy with playing for free so far... to me it seems like part of the challenge. I think if I continue to play and get lots of time out of it, I'll purchase $5 of mojo to support the developer.

One last thing that I really like... the fact that you can redesign your kingdom at any time without any consequences (like fees, or having to demolish and rebuild if you screw up a road or something). The downsides: you have to be online, still some bugs, and it seems to suck battery power.

Vibe? It seems more like an geometry wars earthquake to the graphics!

I get what you're saying, but that was really cheesy.

But yeah, it even has orange triangles moving in waves.

I realize now I was talking about Devil Invasion. I still think Sword & Poker looks cool but have yet to bite.

I got it on a .99 sale, I think. Definitely worth it for a buck, if you're patient it may go down again.

Did anyone buy Rayman 2? Any impressions? Touch Arcade seem to think the controls are a bit of a mess.
Downloaded it a while ago since I loved Rayman 2 on Dreamcast and first impressions are pretty good. It's a very solid port of Rayman 2 on your iPhone and if your okay with the touch screen controls then I'd recommend it, probably the best "real" game on the iPhone.

I just finished Space Miner. Playtime was 9 hours and 38 minutes. Started over New Game+ on Hard. Great iPhone game.

I also picked up geoSpark after seeing it on Co Op. It was cool
for about an hour, but I feel like I already hit my peak.
Now onto Chinatown Wars with a little Spirit on the side.

Apple just featured Tumbledrop as one of the IGF finalists on the app store! :) I remember this list from last year, it's really nice to be there this year. I can't wait to go to San Fran next week!

Congrats Dock - glad to see Tumbledrop doing well

Also Anno looks incredible for an iphone game; really loving the detail in the shots and totally captured the Anno look.

Tilt To Live

Gameplay

Touch Arcade recommended it from one of their reviews. It's fun. Pretty damned good tilt controls.

$1.99 [iTMS]

Looks fun. Incidentally, based on about half an hour of play, Anno is great. It's basically a management sim a la Flight Control or whatever, but not about the routes; more about juggling space and resources. It works really well, looks nice, runs beautifully on the 3G and it's cheap. GET!

^Is there any difference between the itouch or pc version?^

A few modes are lost. The Zen Garden is a no show, as are the endless modes.

It does suffer from framerate issues when the shit hits the fan

Other than that, its an amazing port
