Can you play Words with Friends against a computer?
Most of my friends don't have iPods or iPhones but I've found myself really fancying a good game of scrabble over the past few days.
You can start random games with strangers, no computers.

Anyone play Chess with Friends? Is that our favorite chess game?

What does Words With Friends have going for it over the actual Scrabble app?
There's a free version.

And I don't believe you can play the Scrabble app online, or if you can, the description doesn't make it clear.

I have tons of games on my ipod that I would like to backup on my iTunes. My iTunes has some of the games but not many. How do I get the list on my iTunes to be the same as my iPod? I just downloaded something to my iTunes but can't put it on my iPod because it want's to wipe the iPod to install it.

edit- Actually do I just go through the itunes store and download it manually on my comp?

You can through facebook. I have both and like both, Words With Friends seems to work a bit better though.

Scrabble has a dictionary, teacher, and you can play against the CPU.

Right click the iPod in iTunes, pick "Transfer Purchases". This will copy your apps down.

Yeah I noticed that one, but is the framerate choppy? The power/accuracy bar looked painfully slow. Maybe it's hard to tell from a video, though.

I noticed Tiger Woods 11 will release sometime in June, but if the driver/iron sound effects aren't fixed (they are currently swapped) and the super ease of most previous Tiger Woods games aren't ironed out, I might just give Let's Golf a shot.
I've heard it's a lot faster on the 3GS level hardware, maybe the video you saw was on the older hardware.

Guys. Get Depict. It's iSketch for the iPhone, basically. I Love it!

Edit: It's free, so no excuses this time!
I liked Charadium better myself, but I think Depict has been updated since then. Either way yeah you might as well try cause it's free.

Tumbledrop 1.10 with 20 extra levels is now live on the iPhone app store!
Thanks Apple! It's my birthday today too, great timing! XD

I've currently got a ds, but I'm considering an Itouch for web browsing and gaming. For those that own both a ds and touch do you guys find yourself gaming a significant amount on your ipod touch or iphone?

i barely even touch my DS anymore.

My DS and PSP are nearly unused. I bought Yggriidida Union over PSN for the PSP and am thankful I only wasted $10. If I'm travelling I'll bring one of the two along because they have far better "top" games (which I haven't finished), but for anything shorter I won't.

HOWEVER, I have an iPhone, not a Touch. I don't know how my habits would be in the latter, although they would probably be far more balanced to the other two portables. The iPhone controls my portable gaming because I have to have my phone; an optional device wouldn't have that major factor.

I think I tend to be fairly critical but realistic of iPhone games' quality, but if I had a Touch I think the term "collecting dust" would be used far more likely, since I don't have enough of a commute to warrant any handheld and don't have wifi at work.

Initially yes, but now I use it for browsing and the occasional tinkle on a quick game. For me that's where the strength is, quick little puzzle/touch games I can do for a couple minutes. When I want a "game" game, the DS is still king.

I like the aesthetic of depict, but its fucking dumb that the game takes out all the guesswork and just gives you like 8 choices..

Takes out all of the fun of the game (for me, anyways).

I feel I should recommend Action Hero because it's a great bite sized score attack game. There's very little to it - You jump, punch and duck while running atop train carriages but it's surprisingly compelling. And it's free.

I think Charadium is so much better.
To many flaws in Depict to make it fun.

Haven't touched my DS in over a year. I miss it :(

Just got Tony Hawk 2. It's awesome, except I think they straight-up fucked up the soundtrack.

Yeah only thing I've played on the DS in the past year is the new Layton game just to try it out (pretty good!). iTouch/Phone is honestly just more convenient for me and the games are bite-sized just like I like them. I can play a game of Catan while listening to a podcast in 20m. The convenience factor is just through the roof. John Davidson was right. And pretty much every game recommended here has been good to great. And they cost $1-5 so you can try more of them out.

I haven't purchased an iphone game in a while, but Espgaluda 2 will be an instant buy. So glad to see it confirmed for western release.

You're liking Catan? I heard the AI wasn't great, but is it still a good version to learn how to play?

It's great for sussing out some strategies if you're a new player. Wish Small World had that too actually as that's a game where I need the reps. AI is very simple. Reminds me of the M:TG XBLA AI actually in that it just plays super predictably for the most part; not complex at all. But it's Catan (read: luck) so it's not like you'll just be trouncing it all the time and every game is different with the layouts and what-not. Just peeped the tutorial really quickly and seems competent. Catan is pretty straightforward (maybe 10m to learn when being taught by a person) so I doubt learning it would be too difficult for you.

What is the purpose of Wolfram Alpha? I couldn't resist a $48 savings impulse buy, but it just seems to be wikipedia with a math option.

Anyway, other stuff I've picked up recently:

SketchbookX - I just got the free version to try it, it's a pretty neat little drawing app. I don't know that I'll ever create a masterpiece on it, but it's fun to mess with on the toilet.

C64 - It's very cool to have Space Taxi in my pocket after not playing it for probably 20 years. The controls take a little getting used to, though. Maybe my fingertip is too fat or something, but I notice myself putting in diagonals when I don't want to and such.

Frotz - I *always* get lost and give up on text adventures, but I love them anyway. One day I will finish Zork. Maybe.

Sasuke Extreme - Ninja Warrior in video game form. I've wanted this for a long time, so even if it's hard I'm still enjoying it. I wish you could be Nagano, though.

SkiFree - Where's the monster at? I skied for a long time and never saw him.

I'm looking for a good app to practice chess. I have one called Learn Chess but after reading through the whole tutorial, there's no actual game there. :lol

Cool, I'll check it out.

do you need to know what the composition is of Berylium?

or the unemployment rate in France?

Or the surface area of a sphere?

Or the historical temperature in your city for this day for the last 50 years?

it's a big calculator that can handle lots of complex math plus lots of geography/ scientific questions and it'll parse written word sentences to find the answer.

It's cool, it's very useful for some people, very useless to others. I like it. it can be faster than wikipedia for some things.

...so you won't be able to play esp galuda on an 8gig ipod touch, or will it just be sucky if you do ?
One of the guys over in the Espgaluda II thread said it wouldn't even install on his wife's iPod. I mentioned it elsewhere and a dev pointed out that it may have just been an adhoc distribution (dev testing thing), so it would only install on approved (individual) devices.

We'll see when it comes out. If it does install I expect it to either be slow as shit if it needs the CPU* or just crash on launch if it needs the extra RAM of the 3rd gen hardware.

*If it's only this the current (2nd gen) 8GB touch might be playable since it's CPU is a lot faster than the 1st gen/iPhone 3G level hardware...but still it's a lot slower than the 3rd gen so I'd be surprised if it worked.

The fact that the old soundtrack isn't available is probably the main reason we haven't seen a PSone Classics version of it on PSN. Licensing issues must be the reason for the re-done soundtrack.

I just replaced the sound files in the app with the original soundtrack.

Love being jailbroken. =]

Pocket Legends shows up in US app store on my iPhone, but when I go to download it, says it's no longer available. So hopefully that means it's coming soon. Looks like fun.

Does it support custom soundtracks or even just playing the iPod music over the original SFX? Because if it does, then that's all it needs. I still have a copy of the PC one somewhere and it used an audio file that could be decoded fairly easily (and reconverted into wave/mp3).

New updates to Word Ace/Card Ace: Hold 'Em/Card Ace: Blackjack are out! A handful of new features are included - you can now rate a person once per hour (if you want), there are daily leaderboards, so you can see how you stack up against other players, and if you pull off some staggering feat, and get the harder-to-earn awards, your achievement is blasted out to the whole community!

Also, finally, In-App purchase on the standard Word Ace, and donation stars are finally, finally in the game. :P

IF you have Word Ace Pro, please download and play Word Ace (NOT PRO) instead. Word Ace Pro is going to be deprecated. All your info will carry over between games, so you won't lose any info. But please grab Word Ace, instead of Pro! (If you have Pro, thank you for your support!)

Cheers!

Hey seppo, what's the procedure for sharing a Word Ace/Card Ace profile between devices? Would prefer to have my same stats on my iPad that are on my iPhone...couldn't find any buttons or text in the help files, though.

so, overall opinion on the game center stuff apple announced today? II'm mostly happy about folders... finally.
I'm hoping it kills off OF and it's performance sucking issues. It sounds like OF is moving to some paid content model or something...as long as I can disable it and still get other stuff I'll be happy. I hope Cave replaces OF when they get the chance.

Former Freeverse devs (now at ngmoco) seem cool with it, apparently most of the Plus+ strength is in the backend services they have so they'll just switch to GameKit for the user interface end of things.

Well I want the universal aspect so I don't have to think about the different accounts for all the stupid services.
