If the official currency of the Steam thread is "boxes of cereal", I hereby nominate "cans of Coke" to be the official thread currency of the iPhone gaming thread.
You're pretty fucking lucky if you can get a can of Coke for 59p these days!

I emailed Redshift about The Quest and got a response back from their coder 5 minutes later. Performance issues are specific to the iPhone 4 + iOS4 combo. Patches have been submitted to Apple and should be approved by mid-next week.

In the meantime, Undercroft is an engaging alternative!

Ahh, good to know, thanks.

I just grabbed Pacman CE for $0.99. Not sure if that's a sale price or not, but I figured I might as well jump in now just in case the price goes back up.

If you want the XBLA championship level you'll need the DLC which is $3.99 I think. If you don't care for that I don't think it's necessary since most of the DLC is the fluff "mission" crap. It has more main maps but eh, I thought the first one was decent enough for focusing on for scoring (before I found out the XBLA level was there).

Just picked up Flick Kick Footy and Rugby last night (to support fellow gaffers) and I'm totally addicted to them; so easy to pick up and play. Been pimping them around at work to get more people to buy them :D

Nottingham, represent!

If you're willing to go off-brand, they drop down to 45p, or 3/4's of an iPhone app. It's a flexible currency.

So what does Pacman CE actually consist of? I like the XBLA version so I'm willing to buy it on the app store for 59p but not if you need to buy the add ons to enjoy it properly.

Looks like 20 of 120 missions, 5 of 15 championship courses, and it seems challenges aren't opened at all until you buy expansion packs, which I haven't even looked at yet. Some of the missions are "now try it with this weak-ass physical control alternative!"

Snideness aside, type 2 controls are probably about the best I've seen on any iOS game that requires directional control like that, and I can do fairly well with it. It still seems like I mis-tap sometimes though when the action starts getting faster.

Me too, buying Footy off the strength of Rugby. Both brilliant.

I am OBSESSED with RTS/Turn based games right now and I have two recommendations for anyone else interested in the genre:

1. Red Conquest - This game is incredible. Easily my favorite iPhone game of the moment.
2. Rogue Planet - Advanced wars style turn based game. It's good for an iPhone game, but it has its quirks that keep it from being a truly great game.

Anyone have any other recommendations? I have Warp Gate DL'd and plan on trying it out after work.

Course 15 is the Championship course, and I think the others from the XBLA one are in there scattered around the other 14...there is no 10 minute mode though, they're all 5 minutes. The challenge courses are "the ghosts are fast!" (harder to eat them) for the first 10, then the last 5 are dark mazes like that one on the XBLA version, while the missions are all pointless fluff.

Basically it depends on if you *need* the official championship course. If you don't give a shit about the particular courses the core package is fine. The first level is kind of like it, but completely different at the same time. It feels more balanced to be easier cause the control limitations, it works well.

Yeah the missions are painful if you know how to play the game, I'm not sure I even got through the base 20. Can't say I care for the challenges either.

I use type 2 too. One issue I've noticed (and I don't think they've fixed) is that the touch area for "up" doesn't extend to the full screen, so if you press too high it won't trigger. Bigger issue for me is just that my phone (3G) is slow as shit and can stutter at times. I'll get back into it when I get a new phone.

I just picked up Vanguard Storm after trying out the lite version. Game is ridiculously fun. I was scared off at first because I'm usually weary of big publisher games on the phone plus I'm not a huge tactics guy but this was as simple as it gets. At least in the beginning. Couldn't believe how quickly I turned around on it after playing it.

I'm sorry if I've been a little (read: VERY FUCKING) slow, but Mario deals with queries about Flick Kick AND Shatter? PikPok = studio created by Sidhe! Mind fucking blown.

Sorry, continue.

(PS. Keep up the good work on both fronts :) )

A shop near me sells 18 month out of date Coke for 20p. A third of an app.

Nice to see Namco's fucking pathetic DLC policy for console games has passed over to the App Store.
I almost freaked out when I found out about this. No way I'm going to buy any DLC-featured Namco game ever again.

which of these games are worth pre-buying for a future iPhone 4 owner?

these kind of games I like to keep loaded on my iphone, the others I delete and leave in my itunes or I delete completely.

off that list....none.

Some might be good but those I've tried havent been that fun and those I havent don't really hold any draw. One important lesson to learn about the app store, don't be seduced by sales unless its been reduced to FREE. There are plenty of 99c/59p games more worthy of your attention.

actually most of the best games are that price and very very rarely should you expect to pay more. I know its not much but it adds up and the time you spend trying things out is valuable as well!

Help me badger him into porting GripShift to iOS!

This looks good. TimeChaos, a platformer or something done in Gameboy style pixel art
I've decided to try this and it's not really a platformer... They just put you on one screen and you run left and right to shoot enemies until they decide it's time to move, but just as you move you get stuck on the next screen shooting more enemies. The controls are also tilt only.

Hope nobody minds me posting this, but I've just started a new iPhone/iPad review site - here.

Just reviews, mind, I'm not going to tackle news too, would be too much to take on. Interested to know what you think... =)

Bookmarked and followed. Be nice if you could make the Twitter account like an RSS feed, as that's all I tend to use it for. :P

So is battle for wesnoth worth buying? Reviews tell me that the game is good although it has control and performance issues, both of which were fixed through updates.

PikPok is a seperate label/division within Sidhe focusing on mobile platforms (the Sidhe brand is focused on console/PC).

Jos Ruffell (Jos on GAF) is actually the portfolio of PikPok and does most of the community management for it. I just help out in this thread given my existing presence on GAF.

That being said, we have open vacancies for a Marketing and Sales Manager and a Community Manager because we have an increasing number of titles and initiatives to support and Jos and I can't handle it all effectively on top of our more formal responsibilities.

Keep iPhone/iPad accessibility in mind. Like mouse hover events don't work too well without a cursor, and make sure the lightbox thing works right. I've seen issues with it before, I forget if it was a rendering bug or an interface problem.

Sorry, should have said, we'll have an iPhone skin up ASAP.
