I'm proud of you!

How are you finding it? We will be updating to enhance the graphics with the retina display very soon, so don't fret if it looks a little off.

We need the iPhone 4 to launch in Australia.
It's... it's fantastic.

I was a little put off at first, like I am with all $1 "mini" games on the iPhone - is this really worth it? It's just... slicing fruit? Beating your high score?

Then I caved, I played it, and it's too Goddamn addicting! I have to beat my high score (currently only 91, but I've only played it three times) and I have to figure out my OpenFeint ID so I can start unlocking achievements. It's really great. Now I'm pissed I waited so long to get it. Totally a gem. And it even looks good right now on the iPhone 4, but to hear there's a Retina Display update coming out, that's awesome! I... I might even get the iPad version!

*shakes fist*

Any word on the iPad version's price?

Flick Kick Footbal is absolutely wonderful. I love it.

@Mario: awesome job, guys.

@DieH@ard: consider yourself answered. :D

edit: what's up, spelling issues?

Build-A-Lot appears to be free today. I finally decided I was going to buy it and there it was, free. Cosmic.

+1 for the Fruit Ninja love. Game is awesome. Probably in my top 5 iPhone games. Halfbrick have kept my iPhone and PSP Go well stocked with games.

How come there are no good Tower Defense games coming out anymore?

:(
Probably the abundance of very good TD games already on the service; so its hard to justify the development time to enter a very competive genre

I got me a 3GS on the 26th, after hearing about all the negatives of the iPhone4.

Favorite games:
  • Canabalt: Best iPhone game IMO. The mind-blowing music, the tight gameplay, the subtle (yet fucking fantastic) "story"... Too much perfection. My current highscore is 11,000.
  • Angry Birds: Pretty fun! You can never get bored from this. It's simple yet insanely addictive, and the sounds of the birds makes you laugh at their (your?) stupidity sometimes.
  • Fruit Ninja: Just like the above two, simplicity wins in iPhone games. I freaking love small (well-implemented) ideas that are so polished and tinkered with care. You only cut fruits, yes, but the execution is pretty awesome. Really can't wait for the new update.
  • Tumbledrop: I got several games that are like this (Saving Private Sheep, Tiki Premium) but I think I like this the best. Cute visuals and sounds, and a lovely idea for rewarding the player whether you try to be messy and destroy everything, or finish the game with few "touches" as possible. I hear it's developed by a GAFer, so here's a kiss for you: :***

Other stuff I bought and liked: Super Quick Hook, Pac-Man CE, Bit Pilot, Critter Crunch, Espgaluda 2, Peggle, Plants vs. Zombies, Robot Unicorn, Palm Heroes (I need to play this more).

Other stuff I bought and hated/was disappointed: Ghost and Goblins, Talking Carl (worst app ever -_-), Doodle Jump (with all the hype I see in FB/Twitter I was looking forward to playing it, but I found it somewhat disappointing. Not bad, just disappointing), Minigore (disappointing).

I know other apps shouldn't be mentioned here, but: Hipstamatic is my favorite app. Ever. I love lomography so fucking much, and the app is so freakishly addictive. Just look at some of the pictures I took:

My fav 'lomography' app is Plastic Bullet, produced by the same guys who make the the best post production plugins I know for After Effects and it seems to have the same internal 'engine'. Second fav is Lo-Mob, check em out!

It's a shame you listened to overblown internet whining. The iPhone 4 destroys the 3GS.
But it doesn't destroy the 3GS. The 3GS is still pretty awesome. He probably got a great deal on a 3GS too so it wasn't a bad choice.

I live in Kuwait, so there's no official iPhone 4 release. If I want it, I have to buy it from eBay. Currently they sell at a really high price, which is fine, but isn't so if my device is defective or whatever because it'll be really hard to ship it back to the seller (Aramex charges over a 100$ for every item that weighs 1KG back to the US, if it's 2KG then the shipping is 200$ and so on).

I got my 3GS (Factory Unlocked) for 760$ from Dubai. iPhone 4 rocks, but I'm having fun with my 3GS.

Also, thanks for the recommendations Reese! I absolutely adore these lo-fi effects, and will definitely check those apps out.

you could get a factory unlocked iPhone 4 for around 1100 from ebay. if you were willing to spend almost 800 much for an unlocked version of the 3gs, I would've just gone all out. and, of course, resale for the 4 will be way higher than the 3gs in a year or two.

still, good to see you enjoying the 3gs. get sword and poker 2 as soon as humanly possible

400 mhz faster. 256mb more RAM.

Yes, it destroys the 3GS. Technically the thing is nearly 2 3GS's in power (eh, more like 1.5) Not to mention the higher resolution screen.

Yep, you're right. I definitely should have waited, but man, I've been wanting an iPhone for over 2 years, and when I made up my mind, I thought hey, let's wait for the new one. Then came all the problems and I was frustrated, so I said ffffffuuuuuuuu :lol and let my friend buy it for me when he went to Dubai. Although it's not an impulse purchase per se, it definitely was a rushed thought from me.

Nevertheless, the phone is really entertaining. I charge my battery about 3 times a day because I use it so much. Mail, Twitter, 2Do, Hipstatic (I even hate mobile cameras, but damn), and then the 30-or-so games I bought keeps me busy all the time. Seriously, there's no one goddamn reason to put the phone down :lol it's just concentrated fun and awesomeness in a little package.

Really don't know if I should go for Monkey island on the iPhone or PSN... Argh it's hard to decide... Any advice ?
Both are very good. Iphone version is a bit blurry but the interface is better than in first MI remake. There's also no support for high res screen of iphone 4 if you have it. PSN version is just rock solid all around.

I gave up on Iphone 4 as well. I can't in good conscience spend money on something I won't be able to hold the way I simply have to hold it.

Doodle Jump stinks, but Talking Carl is such a fun app that it's hard to be disappointed! :P

Carcassonne is the shit! Add my name to that sizable list already, Astro.

Fruit Ninja is so good. Believe.

Pix'n Love Rush is terribly underhyped... I love the world's appearance at 10x multiplier.

So, my brother and mother have each now purchased an iPod Touch. We've been playing a lot of Words With Friends. It has been a lot of fun.

So, I'm wondering, are there other games with this sort of asynchronous multiplayer? I like being able to take my turn, ignore the device for a few hours, and then come back to learn that it is now my turn to do something. I'm hoping that there are other games with this functionality. I'm particularly interested in games with asynchronous multiplayer for more than two people.

Do Highbrow and/or Carcassonne have this functionality? Any other games?

Flick Kick Football is freaking awesome! 0_0

To those who haven't picked it up yet, at least try Flick Kick Rugby. It's free, and you don't have to know a heck about the sport. I don't even know what Rugby is, but it gives you a good idea about the team's other games. Really loving FKF. For a buck, you can't go wrong with this.

Got Pro Zombie Soccer as well. Fun.

Carcassonne definitely has it.

Yes, this is what Carc is all about.

Awesome. Our family has been playing the boxed version of Carcassonne for years. So this is pretty exciting. (Does it allow for three-player games? Or is it, like Words With Friends, just 1-on-1?)

Any other games with similar functionality?

This has got to be the silliest question in the thread, but how does Carcassonne plays exactly? I never figured it out since the 360 days. What do you do, what's the goal of the game?

Yeah I didn't like the 360 implementation much. The game is just done much better on iPhone (and better suited to the device).

In terms of mechanics, I'll just point you to this cute review.

Uniwar is great for async multiplayer. I wish there were more games like this.

Awesome!

Words With Friends
Chess With Friends
Highborn
Carcassonne
UniWar

That's a nice set of asynch, turn-based games. Good start for me and my family, at least.

FFFUUUUCK!!

Just looked at updates on my iPhone, and the Fruit Ninja update went live! But I updated DizzyPad first, and when I went back the Fruit Ninja update was GONE!! NOOOOO!!

Got the update, disappointed that the icon wasn't updated to a higher res. What happened with the higher res textures?

Developers, update your icons and textures for the iPhone 4 screen!!

Need to pimp my fellow countrymen:

http://www.neuroshimahex.com/

Another board game coming to iPhone, this one is made by Polish people and has been available for some time now in Poland. Didn't have the chance to play it myself, but I heard it is really good and fun. iPhone and iPad versions are coming out soon so I hope more people will be able to experience it.

Yep definitely got my eye on this. I got the tabletop a few weeks back so I'm hoping I can learn via the iPhone. :lol

For people who use Hipstamatic, they made a front facing camera app called Incredibooth. It's not got many features, but it's puts out photobooth style pictures. 59p give it a try.

I just realized I've bought over 25 games so far. It is way to easy to find great games for great prices (or for free):

Angry Birds
Blast Off
Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 2
Flick Kick Football
Flight Control
Fruit Ninja
Groovin' Blocks
Labyrinth 2
Lumines: Touch Fusion
Minesweeper Classic 2
Pacman Championship Edition
Peggle
Pinball Dreams
PixelCross
Plants v Zombies
Pro Evolution Soccer 2010
Real Racing
Real Tennis 2009
Rogue Planet
Scrabble
Skee-Ball
Solitare
Soosiz
Sudoku
Tilt to Live
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2

...and I'm still waiting for Let's Golf 2 and/or Tiger Woods 11 and Risk

Even though I hate RPGs, I'm still tempted to get Chaos Rings or Secret of Mana :lol

NEW SWIPE BLADES FOR THE DOJO!

Now that the Dojo has opened for business from the latest update, today we have a quick and simple minor update for you to add more content to Sensei's Swag!

OLD GLORY - Celebrate the Fourth of July with the stars and stripes by using this blade. Red, white and blue slashes for all your independence needs!

BUTTERFLY - Not just for the ladies, this purple blade has a stunning butterfly effect which will flourish across the screen. It looks so amazing everyone will enjoy this beautiful blade!

In addition to the blades, several bug fixes have been included to address loading crash issues, critical hit/combo functionality and a Dojo scroll bug.

To all iPhone 4 players, thank you so much for your patience - rest assured that we have not forgotten about you, and we will be updating to higher resolution graphics to take advantage of the new Retina display very shortly in a coming update!

Once again, everyone on the team thanks all the Fruit Ninja players around the world for their continued support! We have some exciting developments underway including the much-discussed mystery mode, as well as the iPad version called Fruit Ninja HD, with unique multiplayer additions and stunning graphics! Watch out for both of these additions and more in the coming weeks.

Stay juicy!

The Fruit Ninja team

That's the content for the new update. Again I really do apologize for the non-Retina display capabilities, we are getting to everything as fast as we possibly can. I assure you this will happen, and happen soon.

Unfortunately we live in Australia. We don't even HAVE the iPhone 4 yet! Submitting an update without testing it on the required device = suicide :(
