Jesus this game is fucking hard. I was playing this with 2 other people and one CPU controlled character on the first "movie." We played the last stage on top of the
hospital
forever. We finally beat it and we ended up with a zombie count of a little over 4000!!! Plus, WE WERE PLAYING ON NORMAL. I can't even imagine how hard this game is on the upper difficulties.
Please learn to melee.

Just to mention, sometimes the AI just plain sucks. We were about to do the defense on Blood Harvest, and we were going to the barn. The AI survivor just stood there and we couldn't get him to move. He eventually just got swarmed and died.

We won anyways, so it's ok!

Playing versus with Gaffers earlier with the game set to expert mode was a blast. Every round we had as the survivors was just a mad dash to finish line. Neither team made it to the safe room, but it was still fun. Me and my team were laughing way too much during the entire time.

You never really think about the fact that Infected have friendly fire too.

Until that first time you're a Tank, and you send a friendly but unlucky Hunter flying into the stratosphere, Team Rocket-style, as he tries to pounce on someone next to you. Or for some, the first time you happen to be that unlucky Hunter. :lol

The two Versus matches that me and some other GAFers had was epic. In the first match, my team got a tank near the car with the alarm at the entrace to the subway. Somebody triggers the alarm and a horde just comes out and fucks every thing up. I got vomited on by a boomer and just hid in a corner. A horde comes so I just melee them back for a while and pull out my molotov. I throw it down right next to me cause I thought I was going to die, but I somehow survived and hid in the same corner that was away from the fire.

Now that my problem was taken care of, I tried to save everyone else. Milabrega was trapped by a smoker so I killed it. The others were getting fucked up by zombies on the ground right in front of the entrance stairs. A hunter comes and I'm thinking it's over but I caught it with melee in midair and killed it. Everybody died so the zombies are now coming at me.

I rushed down the stairs furiously hitting every damn thing I saw with the butt of my gun. A boomer was in my way so I just ran up to it, shoved it, shoved it again, and shot it because I didn't have time for a clean kill. The zombies are still on my ass so I kept meleeing them on the way to the safehouse. A smoker five feet away from the safe house grabs me, but I ran up to em, hit his ass, and shot him away. I'm thinking I'm home free after that, but no. A hunter pounces on me and we lost that round. :lol :lol :lol

shortened version: team died, my will to survive got me through 5 billions zombies, and a hunter messed it all up.

Epic story of Manliness.

You followed up this MVP performance by going to town on the survivors as infected. Sonicspear is the greatest ally you can have, or the greatest nemesis. In the second VS game i was on the opposite end, and it was not pretty.

Ive been playing the hell out of this game. I absolutely love it. So many great moments.... My favorite is random zombie deaths.... killing them in mid leap watching them fall on there face.. killing them at the top of a ladder and watching them rain down below...killing hunters right after they leap so their dead body flies off into random walls/objects... too funny.

I <3 versus i just wish they would give us some more maps!!!!!

just hit 11k zombie kills.... that achievement is going to be long.

Homeslice134 if you wanna play.

Just did it on expert, had similar numbers.

Anyone want to play a bit right now? I still haven't done Death Toll and Dead Air, and I'd really, really like to do them with people that don't completely suck. Because boy oh boy, does this game get irritating when you play with people that suck.

What difficulty are you going to try on?

Played through an entire campaign in splitscreen with the girlfriend. It performed and looked great playing on splitscreen which really impressed me. I had it set on easy which was easy enough for her to complete it without dying. See really enjoyed it and had a blast when things got intense.

Well, I'd be down to TRY expert, but... I can't make any promises on my performance. =p
remember when people on 1Up Yours or the 1Up Show were complaining about the jump between normal and advanced? That was laughable because they really should have been complaining about the jump between advanced and expert.

That happened to me too. I was a smoker choking an unsuspecting Survivor while my friend was on a rampage. Basically he looked over, saw a survivor still standing, and punched us both out the door. I died in one shot.:lol

My friend and I were playing as infected today. He was a Hunter, and I had just gotten the Tank. The survivors came into view and I was off swinging and crashing like a maniac. My friend wound up in the way of one of those swings.

When he told me over chat, I realized I couldn't even remember seeing a Hunter during my rampage.

Please Tank responsibly.

we finally beat no mercy on expert. 3 hours and 44 minutes, after the first night where we spent at least 4 hours trying.

So, how do you kill tanks on expert?

I have a hard enough time on advance >.>
Due to the Tank's freakish size, you can land a full blast from an Autoshotgun easily. Factor in its rapid fire-rate, and you're dishing out the the weapon's maximum damage most of the time.

Oh, and I figure setting the Tank on fire helps too.

It's almost essential to set a Tank on fire if you want to bring him down with a minimal team death-rate. Also, the best strategy is to "kite" him (I'm assuming your playing on Campaign mode). The Tank only focuses on one human at a time, so one person only needs to run around a room in a wide circular pattern while their teammates pump the Tank full of lead. I'm not sure if a Tank is faster than a full-health human, so using obstacles to your advantage is the best strategy.

ahoyhoy said:

He isn't. He's the exact same speed. This is why the circular platform near the start of the sewers in Death Toll is the best possible place to fight a tank; you just run two feet away from him shooting him for a minute while your team clears the way behind you.

Good advice. One little thing that not everyone is aware of: you can get a tank to focus on you by melee'ing him. The best time to do this is when he's got someone pinned, because really, the second or third time he hits, the pinned survivor is toast.

What I've found works best is to hit him, then start laying into him with a weapon once he's targeting you. He may shift back to the pinned person, so you'll have to hit him again if you see him turn around. As soon as he starts to move, run for it. In the meantime, get someone else to rescue the incapacitated survivor.

I understand why Valve is pushing matchmaking on the PC end without server lists now. If you don't have a group of friends to play this game with, it's a pain in the butt looking for adequate games through the server list (at least for co-op). While people might disagree with me, at least they were smart enough to include server lists so that everyone is happy (well almost everyone...)
Matchmaking sucks and having to go through the console to get to the server browser sucks as well, esp. when you're on a German keyboard setting like me. Binding another key to toggleconsole didn't work for me and I'm too lazy to set the keyboard to US every time I want to play some L4D (adding -console to the shortcut helped but the console stays up). Why not give us the option in the menu? There's a reason I play on a PC. After a little while you always have a couple of favourite servers where you know that good people game.

The longer you take to finish a map, the more hordes can be spawned. I guess you had a slow, methodical approach to finishing the maps?

Any way to stop people from healing you? Got to rooftop and some idiot decides to heal me after I told him to stop. Also, does anyone know if I can use pills for that achievement or can I just die?

I really gotta play this game with only people on my friendlist, these random people are completely unpredictable. Of course, I guess that's what makes them random. One guy shuttered the game off to his little kid brother mid-game, and another yelled "cunt" like fifteen times at everybody for not playing up to his standards.

My annoying story from my brief play yesterday: Joined a versus friend game where only one friend is on the Infected team. I'm on the survivor team with a whiney little bitch talking smack. Fight off a bunch of waves and I run back 25 feet to resupply my ammo (which is half gone.) Dude's crying like a mofo about what I'm doing. 5 minutes later he's out of ammo and now bitching about that. So I point out that's why I went back for ammo. And his response, "I don't give a fuck why you went back." And with that, I was gone to a friend-only game that opened up.

Finally was able to pick up this game. Only played 3 campaigns so far but damn is this game fun. I look forward to co-oping with some GAFfers. So far I have only done it with randoms, but luckily they were all upstanding gentleman.

Of course the PC version.

There's nothing like unloading your autoshotty in the face of a prick.

lol oh man, when I found out i was playing a hunter and a friend was a boomer, we were getting our trap set, and i was just dicking around and melee him one time and he exploded. Everyone just bust out laughing in the mics

I played with someone in a very similar situation, and the entire reason why we were low on ammo was because after we beat a tank and a huge swarm, not to mention a bunch of smokers and hunters, two of them ran back to ammo pile that was like 45 seconds away round trip, and the elevator was like 30 seconds away. We got ganked another 5-6 times because of that. Then when they got their ammo they still were screwing around, so I had to run ahead to the elevator, grab my ammo, and then come save their stupid selves. Then we all died horribly because we all low on health by the time we reached the elevator. And we were at nearly full health (albeit with no medkits) after we had beaten the tank. I don't even get why they went back to the ammo, because I was the one who wasted the most ammo (because I was the last one standing on my feet when the tank went down, and was also killing all the other zombie bosses).

Versus seems to have a terrible mix of people who move at full speed (I realize going fast helps, but if a few zombies block my path you shouldn't be 40 seconds ahead of me by the time I kill them) and those who keep going back and just dawdle for absolutely no reason.

I bought both versions. Don't regret it one bit. Prefer the PC version but still have a lot of fun with the 360 version.

Your PC should be ok.

I did the same, 360's version looks great on the 50" but PC's doesn't look to shabby either on my 24" monitor, Especially considering seating distance. (Prefer PC).

Except we were far from the end. And the ammo was in a room, you exit, and walk up stairs. We were at the top of a single stairway when a holy cluster of zombies dropped in. The crazy spawns that have you empty your assault rifle clip, reload, empty, reload, empty, reload. So all I did was walk back down the stairs, enter the room, refill, and walk back up. This dude was just in love with his own voice and had to constantly hear himself talk even if he was spouting non-sense.

As for people dawdling, this annoys me when people aren't paying attention. When you're badly injured, you walk slowly. Nothing worse than people running ahead and leaving slow moving wounded without cover. It's an endless cycle of rescues. Especially in versus when multipliers are earned for # of survivals.

Yeah, there's two extremes and people seem to be on both sides of it, and they are both really annoying. There was one situation we were in an elevator, all of us on low health, and one guy had a medkit. He should have used it on me because I had bled to 1 health, and I was going to slow everyone down and die on my next hit, but if he used it on anyone, that would have been okay because at least one of us wouldn't go down if we were attacked by a boss zombie (although he was the only one not bleeding down). In fact, I asked him to just use it on anyone. But instead he waited until after we had reached the top. Predictably I died pretty quickly, despite not even moving out the elevator really, and he used his medkit while the other guys were pinned, and then he got ganked. Brilliant.

Anyways, I have no problem covering wounded people and coming back to help people who are pinned (I'm usually the first to do so), but typically the people who are dawdling start at full health and slowly wear down, and cause everyone else too. And usually from what I can tell, they have no real reason for what they are doing. It's not even like they are even checking for weapons.

In versus your whole team, not just a team mate, should be within 10 feet of each other. There's no reason to go back for more ammo unless there's a horde/tank right next to a stockpile. If someone is bleeding and there are no health packs/pills left, it's better to leave him behind. Usually the team is screwed by that point though.

That was me. I kept trying to tongue your ass but I had no idea the horde blocked tongue shots. By the time I had my wonder-lasso around you, you came and busted my head open :(

I hate that there's no server browser of sorts for the PC version. Sometimes me and my mates will end up on a server where the lag makes the game unplayable and we have to quit and try over and over until we get a server with acceptable speeds.

^ but there is a serverbrowser http://www.left4dead411.com/news/2008/11/server-browser-available/

But there is, you just have to open it via console ("openserverbrowser")

Everything is situational. If you can't see the flaw in what the guy did, whatever. My 5 second run down 8 steps wasn't the cause of him running out of ammo. It's that we had a HUGE area we had to cross and we burnt it all just outside the room with the ammo.

Worst part about matchmaking is the custom setting servers you can get put in. Nothing like playing a VS game on expert, where your lucky if the survivors get 25 feet.

Pills are ok to use for that acievement.

I can't seem to get the "headshot the witch" one. Point-blank shotty to the face was supposed to work! :(

Oh he was a moron and backtracking slightly for more ammo is fine but you really shouldn't ever be running out of ammo unless you've a m4 and you are overshooting. If it takes longer than, say, half of the spawn timer it's probably not worth it. Ammo stockpiles are rather frequent and dual pistols are a nice substitute in most situations.

So I have a stupid shitty problem with my headset maybe someone else has overcome before. Basically when I plug it into the USB the computer recognizes it, when I go into audio properties it recognizes the microphone too. Problem is I can't get any sound to output through it, only when I deleted all the other sound devices (Realtek HD Audio) did it randomly start playing through the headset but then of course no sound came out of the laptop when the headset wasn't plugged in.

Anyone?
