The roadblocks, alamo ramp, smoker-instadeaths and tank glitches.
I don't see the smoker insta-deaths as an exploit or glitch. They're pretty solid with the way gravity is and how the smoker is played. On Blood Harvest 1, you can't tell me that pulling a guy across the gap to his death wasn't in the cards. And on No Mercy 5 and Blood Harvest 2, I just see the parts where the smoker pulls a guy down as part of the danger in being in an elevated area.

I wouldn't mind if some of these got patched to where the player is just hanging off the ledge or just gets incapacitated, but I find these parts to be a rush, and I barely play the 360 version anymore due to the other, worse types of bullshit.

It's such a shame that Valve hasn't fixed the 360 version yet. It's so full of glitches and bugs that people seem to start playing less Versus matches. Dirty console peasants indeed. :(
Microsoft patch certification.

It's nearly impossible to play Blood Harvest more than one stage, people keep quitting after stage 1. It's getting boring to play No Mercy all the time.

i guess it takes a direct comparison like left 4 dead or the tf2 map situation for console gamers to realize the extent to which their games are potentially strangled by the legal and practical restrictions of the platform.

That big Versus match was fun, I still remember getting the tank on the "under construction" floor of the Hospital and being able to help stop the run there. Thankfully they didn't put that damned tank of propane in the right place :lol

I only got to be the tank once ever, how does it work? Seems cool. god it's irritating when that thing smacks you once and you go flying off the roof in no mercy.

It's random, but I think in the Dev Commentary mode they said it favors the person with the highest score.

All I know is when I pull someone off right as they get on the roof on No Mercy 5 and insta-kill them with the smoker I feel dirty because it's way too easy.

I don't think it is, because anyone can just look right and shoot you dead. I don't see it as any worse than a hunter pouncing you right at the top of the ladder and making you fall all the way down, incapacitating you and making your teammates scramble with the ladder controls.

Just had my first vs match where the other team hid under the ramp. What was annoying was that on level 4, two of us were in the safe room with green health, while the other 2 decided to explore and go at a snail's pace, and we all winded up dying, which made the result of the last map not matter. 3 of us survived, then the other team went and hid under the ramp. They got out during the Tank though, and Mut/PK/I/some random made them pay. We still lost, anyway.

The most annoying thing about it all was that Mutfox got a Tank to fall off the building on NM4 via a propane tank, and instead of us running to the safe room, 2 people decided to take a stroll instead which screwed us, and then on our infected turn, our Tank showed up before the elevator.

Avoiding that is so easy, though.

As a survivor, just run up the stairs as fast as you can and run immediately in front of you as soon as you can. The Smoker's tongue will break on the vent up there and he's useless as you shoot him dead.

Easy as pie.

It's the building with the satellite isn't it? I've pulled people off from there a couple times, and once I think I got a lot of impact damage, but no idea where the 'sweet spot' is.

Anyone ever find use for the smoker smoke cloud? My teammate and I just pulled one off a bit earlier. Basically bill and francis were just hanging out at NM 2 , in the office building that's situated right next to and above the trash bags. I'm playing smoker trying to see if i can snatch one of them before they falls when I get spotted. Fortunately, my hunter buddy happened to be nearby and he pounces on bill. I see Francis (who has been spit on by a boomer, somehow) run towards him to save him, tongueless I ran in his way and start slashing. Francis kills me just in time to miss a dozen or so streaming zombies run through the door and into the smoke, slashing him into incapacitation.

Also, anyone know how hunter pounce damage is calculated? Jumping off a tree in BH : 3 damage, jumping off a building in NM : 23. Nob come teach me the ways of hunter distance pouncing.

You just need to angle yourself so that the when the person falls they don't hit their back on the vent that's hanging off the side of the building.

If they fall without hitting that, game over.

Arg...
Versus can be annoying if you have people on your team that are noobs,
versus a team of people that know what they're doing.
Just one person on the team can screw you over, but 2... It's game over. :P

Also, the smoker cloud sucks...
Wish it atleast slowed people down temporarily. (cause they can't breathe properly)

These are my top two tips playing as a Hunter in versus mode that has worked for me.

1. If you are near fire, jump in the fire; then pounce on a survivor for massive damage.

2. If the survivors are sticking together, but are fighting off a mob of zombies, DO NOT jump on one of the them. You will be melee'd and shot so fast that you'll be lucky to do 10 damage. Instead, run in from behind, and begin clawing a survivors back with the secondary attack.

Usually the unlucky survivor will be so distracted that they won't notice their health drop in seconds. Each slash does 10 damage, and you can do about 3 a second. It's very easy to make a yellow outline turn red using this strategy.

Good tips, but a little overboard on the speed. 3 swipes a second is a bit high. More like a swipe a second. Even so, hardly anyone uses swipes, and it's easily the best thing the hunter has to offer.

Pouncing is only good if you know you're going to have them alone for a bit. 5 damage a hit while pounced vs. 10 damage a hit while swiping.

Yeah I know good players can avoid it, still it happens often enough that it feels cheap, even when i'm the one doing it.

Over time more players will learn to avoid it, but I still wouldn't mind if it got changed. The blood harvest spots don't bother me at all, mainly because they just don't happen as often.

if the smoker's smoke did some damage-over time, all the issues with people spending extended lengths of time huddled in a corner meleeing would be solved, imo. seeing as the survivors already cough like they are dying would fit with this.

also, it would give the smoker a bit more utility.

Fuck Valve, fuck Left4Dead.

Each time I try to play on my 360, I get a crippling glitch that makes everything look all shiny and sprite-y like an N64 game which leaves the game unplayable and freezes my 360. Wonderful.

Edit: To be more specific, the glitch I'm having is a texture glitch. It makes the texture disappear completely and instead only shows random sections of random colors with randomly colored dots all over the place. Lazy developing.

This is an excellent idea. You should email valve or something.

Sounds like a bad glitch, but you being close to the only person complaining about something like that and then going on and saying Valve is a lazy developer seems a bit extreme.

Ok, yeah it's just the frustration speaking. Do you think Walmart would take a return on it?

Not sure, but see if there's something in the manual to contact support from Valve/EA or something on that issue, and see how that turns out. It's the holidays, so you might have to wait, but that seems to warrant some aid from them.

yeah, i thought it would require the least amount of extra work and potentially could be a quick fix. no new infected required. i'll try to post this on the steam forums. don't know any other way to get this info to them.

I haven't encounter this glitch, whereabouts does it happens? Does it do this on the other games you have? Sounds more like a GPU issue then game issue.

Or you can clear the previous patch and either re-patch it again or play it single player without an internet connection to see whether that helps.

Awesome games tonight.

Yeah, it's only been with L4D. And it's happening every time I boot up the game. Earlier, it had happened when I tried to start the fourth campaign "Blood Harvest" and all the level's texture went to shit. I turned off my box and tried a different game. It worked flawlessly with 4 other games.

Earlier today I booted it up and was greeted at the welcome screen after hitting A to bypass the opening scene at the beginning with a huge blob of multicolored one dimensional boxes all over where the start up screen should have been. I'm going to try to either return it from where it was purchased or contact Valve to try to get a replacement disc.

Now that I think about it though, my box has been having major hard drive issues (ie. the hard drive randomly decides not to be read at erratic points throughout the day) so it could be that. Does L4D depend greatly upon stored memory to boot up from the disc?

Last night was the first time I've played in about a week. I started playing some versus and saw something new (at least to me) during NM instead of using the lift to go up my team ran just under the window you thro up top and meeled the shutter door and opened it like that. I've never seen that done before. Doing that bypasses the horde felt really cheap tho. Left that and started a campaign on Dead Air played with an awesome group took almost two hours to finish it. One guy got hit by a tank and went flying off the roof and died. We move along he respawns and we come to the other side and find his body still laying there :lol

I finally got the game on the PC for Christmas. I'm likin' it so far.

Anyway, my Steam ID is WarkWarkWark if you guys wanna add me to play co-op.

Finally got the game, played with a couple of friends and everything was great, they left to do other stuff and kinda warned me about playing with strangers, I did it anyway and my group got stuck with a jackass that talked about getting achievements the whole campaign and told me to fuck off when I tried to heal him, when the credits started to roll and saw that some where missing he started to compulsively repeat the requirements to win them over and over again. :lol

I had a similar run... it was 3v4 with the zombies having the short end of the stick, and we were doing a lot of damage to them to the point that we almost managed to win. But they killed the second tank taking very little damage (happens a lot when there's always a free man running around). However, I managed to tag the first running toward the ramp with projectile vomit. Like 3 seconds later, I spawn as a tank with a 5 second walk to the helicopter (which almost never happens). Their entire team is still held up by the zombie horde, because they didn't want to ditch the one guy. He gets incapacitated anyways and they are running toward the helicopter. I manage to get in the way and knock off one the guys down below where he gets surrounded by zombies. The other two make it onto the helicopter, but I crawl right in beside them and in spite of that infernal invisible wall on the helicopter (which I've encountered many times before -_-) I incapacitate them both before the other guy gets incapacitated, then run back outside and nail the last one standing who is still dealing with zombies. :D

They got a health bonus but they had a multiplier of 0 for survivors... I'm chalking it up as a moral victory.

Your evil for posting that Red... :(

I was gonna post a pic from that match but it didn't turn out so good so I won't. Well its 4am again, damn this game to helllzz.
