I'm all for multiplayer, but I got to learn my maps first. My first ten hours of this game is going to be single player followed by single player commentary. See you guys on the other side!:D

Dude the fun will come from other players also learning the maps with you on release day.
Playing through in single player kind of negates the whole point of the game.

But it's your decision i guess.:D

Ok, so as i stated earlier I dont have a dvd drive to physically install the disk if i were to purchase a physical copy. Is there any way to take the cd key from the physical copy and use that to download via steam? Basically apply the key to my account and download rather than install

That's basically what you're buying when you buy a Valve game. You're buying a Steam CODE and, as a bonus, are given a download burned to the disc. So, yeah, you just activate the code and download if you want.

Some guy got his PC package that came with some interesting extras. It came with the DVD, mini-poster, CD-key card, and a mousepad. I'm not really sure how he got such a package since I always recall the physical copy of orange box being extremely basic. From my recent extremely bad luck, I think I'm going to receive the latter from Amazon.

edit: sorry for the large size, I'm resizing right now. The OP used imageshack. edit2: resized and tinypic'd!

The package appears to be more environmentally friendly. Hopefully everybody will receive their physical copy of the game this way, with or without the mousepad. It's nice and flat thus easy to ship via any courier, takes up less volume than the orange box, um, box and involves less plastic overall. The Orange Box box had two DVDs and a CD-key in this totally oversized hard plastic DVD case. Well done, Valve, well done.

Obviously you can avoid any waste if you get sexy with Steam.

Just got the game. Had a great 4 player session.

The game is hard as balls and team tactics are so important. I'm also really impressed at how they managed to capture the zombie movie feel so well. The grain filter, the setting, etc. It's great for any fan of zombie movies.

I wish if you only had 2 people playing coop you could turn off the other 2 ai controlled characters. I think
it would make it a lot more intense. As is me and my brother just use them as bait.

Well, you could always just kill them at the start and don't free them from the respawn closet.

so today when my group reached the subway, out of no where it said "omg mode enabled"

all of a sudden, we were facing never ending swarms of zombies and had unlimited ammo/no reloading. I was hosting the server and I did not type anything in console. Odd, no?

Someone figure out how to do THIS PLEASE!

Awesome, playing around w/ Console I realize that the very last level of a chapter is going to incorporate a "Finale", as in, infinite Zombie horde will mass you for an allotted time where you must survive for a couple mins until a "transportation" arrives.

and for infinite ammo and godmode (some people might ask right?)
sv_cheats 1
sv_infinite_ammo 1
god 1

and for more than 30 zombies at once w/ 1000HP
z_health 1000
z_common_limit xx where xx is the limit

Gah I passed on the steam version as it would of cost me £33, so orded from Amazon for £20 just have to wait till Friday to play it.

The lag in between safe houses is fucking annoying. Often i'm waiting minutes until it sorts itself out. People just get bored and leave. Has Valve commented on this? It's so strange because once it sorts itself out it's completely smooth.

If you're in the UK add me on steam. gincarnated@optonline.net

After fighting its way through Fable II, Far Cry 2, Gears 2, and most of Fallout 3... my 360 has red-ringed just a few days before the release of L4D.

Fuck.

I think someone was doing this on a server last night - either that or the server was configured to trigger zombie rushes every two minutes. We never made it through.

Is there going to be any way to know whether you've joined a vanilla server or one that's been tweaked? I'd hate to play through the campaign on someone's sandbox.

Thanks I was gonna ask this as well myself. I'm getting it now for sure. Plus here's hoping there's some DLC and map packs in the future.

Hmm, tempted to get up at 6am, not sure how well my aim would be though:lol or my ability to communicate.

A friend of mine is getting the Xbox 360 version from BB early (employee) and I told him to get a copy for me as well. I'll still buy the game on Steam as well probably, cause I'm much more comfortable with KB&mouse. I think I should be fine running it on my rig cause I can run TF2 on High with all bells and whistles.

Haven't tried the demo, but from all the awesome impressions, I can't wait to try it out for myself!

Valve hasn't received many negative user scores at Metacritic at all, I wouldn't be worried (the lowest they've gone is 60ish and 70ish on two games, and those two were Portal: Still Alive and The Ship).

The user scores aren't real though, it's just PS3 vs 360 fanboys voting 0 on each other's exclusive games.
