So am I right in assuming that to get a full room of 4 friends together at this point someone needs to join an empty server (somehow). Then have 3 others hurry and join before the game auto-joins some random person?

I opened a lobby, waited for 3 people to join, then clicked "play". I had the option to make a private lobby if needed.

Game is intense, wow. So much fun.

180 quick turn mapped to the right bumper is a god send. Game controls great and runs great on 360 too. First time I ran into a witch I shot her. BIG MISTAKE! :lol

Run!!

Sorry to hear that. :(

You could probably try forcing DirectX7 or DirectX8 if the game supports it (as TF2 does). I forget the exact command, but you could probably google it. If you right click on the game in the games list, and click Properties, and then Launch Options, you can add it there. I think it may have been "-dx7" or "-dx8" (without the quotation marks).

In DX8 it still lags horribly. I'll try it on my other PC, which has a 6800.

I need to know how hard this Witch is, in order to prepare for the proper pant-soiling.

Also, what kind of damage do you do if you accidentally shoot a teammate?

no, the implementation for friends is awesome. You can load a screen that shows all the games your friends are playing, you join up in a lobby, and all start the game together.

Anyway, I'm having trouble joining games and staying connected, but it looks like they already released one update for the game and I'm sure there's more to come.

singleplayer is great, looks great, runs great, normal is way too easy but expert is fine

online is fucked, gonna complain about it until i see a server list

So it sounds like the only people not bitching are the 360 people....how times have changed

There's a reason for that, they're bringing in shitty console mechanics into the PC version.

Does everyone's system have that "griddy/fuzzy" look going on? Just wondering if it's supposed to be there. My guess is that it is....

Any UK GAFers managed to pre-order and get their codes? I did a pre-order with GAME and my local store had no idea the demo was coming. :lol

I called GameStop customer service and all they told me was that hopefully I'll get a code later today. Not too reassuring. So if anyone has an extra, I'd love to have it. And then I'll provide any code(s) I get later assuming GameStop comes through to GAF.

go sign up to "pre-order" through gamestop US site and don't put a transaction id in, worked fine for me. got my real pre order with shopto for £24

Ahh great :) I will register with them (Well, hopefully they have not noticed :lol ) How long did it take to get your code?

This game is fucking awesome. PC here. Had no trouble jumping right into a game already in progress. We also had someone else drop and then someone else join right in.

The total carnage that occurs is amazing. Walls plastered with blood, and zombie corpses piled up in dozens. Best co-op game ever? Seems so.

Server issues aside (still haven't been able to complete the subway), I fucking LOVE this game.

Most crazy moment so far:

-Climbing up some debris by a subway car while just a few infected are attacking us (so I can get a better vantage point), and then...I see a fucking TANK climbing up the other side. I pretty much freaked out right there.

Problem: I keep clicking Install Demo on the L4D demo page on Steam, and the screen just flashes and refreshes. How the fuck am I supposed to install it? I've never had a problem downloading anything off of Steam before...

Guys this game is VERY GOOD INDEED.

I nearly shat myself when I fell down that first hole in the floor and there were like THIRTY ZOMBIES and my team didn't know what the hell was happening and I was completely surrounded oh god

Also when I tried to sneak up on a Witch and put a shotgun slug into her. BAD IDEA.

WTF at the lobby system. Server list please Valve... OR ELSE.

Game is very fun. Single player played great, but i couldn't get into an online campaign for very long without it disconnecting.

I tried to take on a witch and wiped everyone. Hehe.

The Witch is scary indeed. She can take you out in one hit. Just played a 4 player co op game online, someone shot her. We all started unloading on the Witch and she took two down but we got her! Probably around 150 assault rifle shells to take her out! :lol This was on normal too, and there are advanced and expert difficulties to play!

As far a team damage goes, it doesn't look like a ton of damage is taken off for hitting one of your partners. Of course, this is still on normal.

Alright I'm download the HLDS files now... Is there such thing as a private server now? I'm reading that if your server is public it's just thrown into the pool and will populate via matchmaking. But what about passworded servers?

Awesome game, especially on expert difficulty. Shitty, shitty, shitty idea with the servers.

Meters for connection quality, without pings? Honestly? Comeon now, Valve.

omg I adore this game. So so so so so so good!!

But I feel like I'm getting less performance than I should. I get about 30 FPS in huge zombie swarms and about 50 - 60 normally. I'm on max settings, no VSync, 4x AA. Resolution is 1280x720. I use an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, an ATi Radeon HD 4850, and 2GB of RAM.

l4d demo is awesome, but WAY too short.

however, expert mode is impossibly tough. friendly fire with a shotgun incaps you in one hit. saelz8 was taking us down more than the infected were.. :lol

no dedicated servers blows, but i hosted for 4 people and it felt fine.

the game itself like the little details and the animation are so damn engaging.

Forgot to say that the first game I played was Advanced and we held our own. Expert was a different story, but I kinda feel like that's the only way to play.

Sigh

Try One: started up fine, then about a minute or two in the lag hit. Playable for a little while then once we finished the chapter, the Epic Lag hit and made it completely unplayable.

Try Two: Sat in lobby, couldn't find a dedicated server.

Try Three: Same as two.

Oh well, maybe it'll be better tonight. :(

Awesome. :lol Thanks for the reviews.

That's the point of a demo, give you a taste of awesome to ensure you pay for the full thing. I know the pre-order bonus of early demo doesn't entirely work like that, but this demo will be going to the general public soon.

true, and knowing valve they probably calculated the perfect "taste test" without giving too much away.

We didn't even get to the first safe room, on expert difficulty.

We tried probably 3 or 4 times, then we decided to take a break.

Friendly fire on expert is instant death. That's serious business, considering how often it happens.

The whole scene was pretty funny. You know those horror movies where you have the whole bunch which is competent, but there is always one guy who has to buck the curve and ruin it for everyone else...this is what happened! Three of us had mics, we were all going don't shoot the witch, don't shoot! Of course the 4th guy without the mic shoots her and then all hell breaks loose. :lol

I'm heavily regretting preordering from Gamestop now. I preordered the game in-store and have not received a code for PC yesterday. Just to play it safe, I submit the form online last night, still no dice. So I called the 800 number and they told me to submit a request online again and to wait 1 to 2 business days.

Normally, I wouldn't stress it but tomorrow would be the only day I can put a substantial session of L4D in.

If they can resolve these server/connection issues, I'll be in heaven. Zombie heaven.

I don't mind that they've tried to simplify everything, but I'd like to have the option to see pings, connect to a server that I want (maybe even with a group). Just because they simplify things doesn't mean that they can't have a layered approach. Like, not everyone knows about the console, but it's still there.

:lol I remember that tank because I was on the other side when it came out.

I had a good time playing with you guys. I joined right in and BAM, pulled off by a Smoker through a door in the apartments. I didn't even have my damn headset on for the first bit. I was worried I might do more damage than good, but it's pretty easy to pick up on what everything does.

Guy on my team lobbed a molotov at her and all of a sudden we had a shrieking fireball tearing toward us.
