Right, problem:

I can't see any servers in steam, not for TF2, not for L4D, not for anything. Now I'm on campus internet and need to contact the provider to ask them to open some ports (don't have access to the router myself). Cause I think that's what's causing trouble. What ports need to be forwarded though? Or are ports not the problem?

Try adding Steam and the steam games as exceptions in windows firewall.

despite the core game being undeniably fucking stellar, the whole connection infrastructure is still janky as hell.

having to go through console to get a server browser up and the numerous connect to friend/timeout/lobby only default issues this causes is a goddamn travesty in a game this good.

having this console style shit shoved down my throat (4-bar pings anyone?) and being treated like some spolitz haxor just because i have the guile to want to pick which server i want to play on still irks the hell out of me.

Some shots I took.

Just played through the demo for a second time on single-player in between Gears 2 fests. And I noticed a lot of differences between my first and second playthrough which is great. Hopefully going to play through again later today on a higher difficulty with a friend online. Definitely buying.

The fun starts on expert.
Nothing beats getting killed in the first 30 seconds because the director sent a huge wave of zombies, then a boomer that causes another wave.

I haven't tested it, but, what happens if you sit to long on the rooftop? I perched over the ledge and started shooting some zombies, and oddly enough, one of them started to climb the drain pipe to get to the roof. o_O

They swarm over the top right roof at you.

Then a long long wait. Then another small swarm.

So I heard the horde coming in that small area that the last train leads to. I pop out of the small room across from the stairs to throw a molotov but then a smoker got me and dragged me into the fire.

The director was sooooo against us.....one tank after another and witches everywhere you can't dodge them. :lol

I don't know if this was posted yet, but if you type "thirdpersonshoulder" in console, it gives you a RE4 type third person view. It's pretty awesome but I find it a bit harder to aim for some reason.

I'm going to kill Gamestop. This is the second game I've pre-ordered that they did not send me a code. I've sent them emails and they ignore them. Dammit.

Played the demo yesterday. What was initially my most anticipated title of this year, is now not so much.

I don't know what it was, but the game just didn't agree with me. It felt... Disconnected from everything. Little to no feedback, gun sounds had no 'oomph' to them, typical stickiness to the movement that is common with source. The zombies had no interesting element to them. They just come at you in waves like one shot kill ships in a side scrolling shooter. Walk and fire, walk and fire.

I'm hoping the 4 player co-op will make the game as awesome as I expected all of the game to be, single player included. And I'm still buying it for that feature alone. But for now, colour me very disappointed. I was so hyped for this game.

So your posting this before you've even played with other humans? :lol

hahaha. I just had the best experience ever. We made it to the first safe house and we died there a few times. Since we start some people will doing some friendly fire but that is to be expected considering some people run into other people's line of fire.

Well, one dude gets so pissed off that he starts shooting other people in the safe house before we even leave. So another guy on the team starts shooting him back. So he falls to floor severely wounded so I help him up hoping that everything would be resolved then. No :P

So! They continue to shoot each other and eventually, they both fall once. I help them both up. I start to get shot. Then the guy busts out a shotgun and finally kills the guy who started the shenanigans and tells us not to rescue him when we can :P

I was laughing the entire time.

The big flaw with this game ------- OTHER PEOPLE

I played local co-op on the 360 version earlier this afternoon.

OH MY GOD, THIS GAME IS AWESOME.

*masturbates furiously*

The replay value is as high as I've been led to believe by previews I take it?
According to Steam, I've played the demo (which takes about 20 minutes) for over 4 hours. I would say yes. Honestly, I sometimes feel like I'll get bored with the game, but then we hop into another round and I forget all about it.

why would you ever play this alone?

Well yeah. I was expecting to like this in single player as well, and I didn't. I think that's a legitimate complaint.

me and crooked rain happened to end up on one of those insane servers where the zombies run really fast.

at the time, we didnt know why, it was just late and i kept falling asleep with my finger on W (and waking up to audio queues with a swarm of zombies on me). now i know that it was just some fucked up insane setting.

I think it's because of the lag between the model and the cursor. Something feels a little bit janky about third person, and you can see a bit too much of what's going on--takes a lot of the spook out of playing.
I'll be sticking to 1st.

Once you play co-op, I think you'll forget entirely that there is even a single player component to the game. Furthermore, I don't think there's a damn thing wrong with that. The game focuses its strengths into the co-op play and I'd much rather that than it try to please everyone with a beefed up single player experience (which would ultimately detract from the co-op experience).

of all days for my xbl gold to run out of service...fuck I'm going to the store to buy another card right now.

the game is a lot of fun though. even just alone on the hardest difficulty :)

lol I am hoping my laptop's 8200 can run this game. I really want to try this.

I am playing on a Vostro 1500 with a 8400 MS and 3 Gigs of ram, and its comparable to most of the screens ive seen. You should be good.

Holy fuck I shoot my own teammates way too much.

You do? It seems like everytime im shooting I end up popping a teammate in the back. >.<
Sorry to all the gaffers i've played with and ended up shooting them when those giant hordes would rush us!

I can't help it some times, you get a swarm of zombies surrounding a guy and a couple shots of the shotty gets my own guy.

Have you ever enjoyed playing CS, Battlefield, Q3 or UT games by yourself?

I've only enjoyed UT99 by myself, but I put that mostly down to having no net connection, or only pre-paid dialup at the time...I didn't know what MP really was.

Anyway, the game is totally different in co-op. Play it. Don't waste time posting about how lacklustre SP is.

Same here.
If i do end up incapacitating them, I'll make my best effort to clear all zombies surrounding them and get them back up A.S.A.P, and give them my health packs/pills.

After a few of you guys suggested we have a GAF L4D Steam group I have created one here: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/GAF-L4D

As I mentioned in the online thread we need some officers so if you put your hand up I will add you in. Also if you don't like the logo, provide a better one and I will change it. Finally if you have any suggestions or requests let me know and I can make some changes.

I guess it comes down to expectations. I expected there to be a robust single player experience along with the amazing multiplayer. I guess I was wrong.

Still buying day 1. I have 3 friends lined up ready to go.

Yep, same. I always feel really bad when it happens too - much worse than I've felt in any other game when I've team killed.

Uh, why? They always said the game was entirely centered around co-op and versus, with the single player just being AI co-op.

my new favourite thing to do is no longer molotoving safe rooms, but to shoot everyone else and close the safe room door while I wait for them to slowly die.

drake foiled my plan last game though :(

This game is like a sandbox for griefers.......

i'm pretty sure witches are in the game to curse stupid players and simultaneously fill griefers with delight.

also when people are really hurt: "heal plz" "yeah sure" *heals self for 5hp back to full health* "thanks for reminder"

I dunno if it's been mentioned, but playing with random people is actually kinda cool in this game. I mean, that's kinda how it would down in a real zombie apocalypse, you'd just have to work with whatever retards survived.

Seriously. I play for a good hour, and get sick of it. Then another hour later I get the urge to play again and I'm loving the hell out of it. And this is only one and a half maps!

Lol yeah i was on an interesting server earlier with two people absolutley hating each other's guts on it, and me and another guy trying not to get involved in there squabbles and survive. It was hilarious as we went through the level as they kept insulting each other over the tiniest mistakes, but they didn't ever attack each other, they worked together to try and finish the level, since they knew it would be extremely difficult without each others help.
