Man they need some kind of rule that keeps the code begging out of these threads. I don't come into a game thread to see 8 million posts of...

Anyway, I didn't realize I was up to 7.4 hours of this demo. Damn. It's like the COD4 beta all over again.

The game feels like a cheap Counter-Strike add on. Wish it wasn't so but just wasn't that fun to me. :-/

wow really? Never felt any tension? Never impressed by the endless variability? Never any HOLY SHIT WTF moments? Never any moments of uncontrollable laughter?

Guess this game isn't for everyone then.

The demo level is only half the real level, then there's 19 more. We've only seen a fraction of the weapons. My god, the 18th can't come soon enough.

:lol I appreciate what you are doing but please get it right. We have seen all weapons and played 2 levels out of 20. Campaigns will each be a set of five maps combined into a "movie". Four of these "movies" will be avaible at release and more are coming soon.

Tension yes. Variability? Not so much. I mean the endless waves of zombies is fun but it gets old after a bit.

The gun sounds were a little sub par considering you hear them all the time.

Either way, I know the game will sell well and I'm glad everyone is enjoying it. Just didn't get the hype since it didn't impress me that much.

IIRC they've been tinkering around with flamethrowers as a possible post-release weapon.

Meh.
Flamethrowers would be extremely powerful, but it would have its limits. I doubt it could do the right click melee, and it would be powerless against the boss zombies because of its terrible range.

Boomers could vomit on you, Hunters could leap on you, Smokers would tongue-rape you, and Tanks aren't that affected by fire (according to what I've seen with the molotov)

Well, if we're talking your stereotypical zombie/horror environment:

- Crossbow
- Magnum
- Melee weapons (chainsaw, cricket bat, etc)

Relatedly, if someone doesn't whip up a set of maps to mimic Shaun Of The Dead, I will be severely disappointed.

They've said melee weapons wouldn't be included somewhere in an interview. Yes, I know there's something about a knife in the demo files, so I realize it could be possible.


Magnums are a given alternative to the pistols, and crossbow would probably be a one-hit kill to make up for reload time.

I want there to be Queen - Dont stop me playing inside the Bar too.
And a new cricket weapon for maximum zombie smashing.

I couldn't resist. I know I'll hardly have any time to play it but with Amazon's deal of $48.99 for the 360 version I just had to bite.
Too bad only Gamestop preorders give early demo access :/ I guess I'll have to wait until Tuesday.

Okay I admit defeat.

If L4D doesn't get a chainsaw at some point in the future, it fails as a zombie game.

Also, yes, I completely forgot about magnums. Always my gun of choice, after shotguns!!

Should be able to replace the knife model with a cricket bat ;)
 
I decided to start a single player game, join the spectators and watch the AI play through the first map on expert. (without jumping in as infacted) Pretty fascinating too watch with all the voice lines and how the AI acts.

But Zoey didn't make it. :(

Will be interesting to see how they handle the subway with tanks and witches.
 
THis is going to sound silly, but a friend of mine really wants to try it out and his GAF account has been banned for a while. If anyone has a spare code, its cool, if not then hes S.O.L. :lol
 
Anyone else having this issue where the level in the demo just refuses to load? The bar seems to get stuck on about 80-90% then just hang... I have to ctrl+alt+del and kill it, I've waited up to 10mins and nothing happens.

I've tried playing with video options and closing other programs. Graphics card drivers are also up to date. I have no problem with any other Valve/Steam games. Any ideas would be much appreciated, as I'm really looking forward to playing this with some mates and hope it doesn't reflect the full game =(

That didn't help either. Neither turning it off, nor adding steam and l4d as exceptions in the firewall.

Still can't see any servers.

Anyone know what ports exactly need to be forwarded?

Make sure you hit the custom tab at the top.

*You are trying ~"openserverbrowser" right?
 
people have already started creating custom maps for this.

Here's de_dust from CS:S as a L4D map. The Director placed all the zombies without any kind of nodes or waypoints or anything and it's different every time, just like they said.

Obviously this is just a proof of concept, when the good Source mapmakers get their hands on this game I think it's going to be unbelievably awesome.
