The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

Man - I just popped on the 360 demo there on normal with AI and I still loved it. Just finished the first mission. I've never actually watched a video, read any previews / impressions or even seen a gameplay screenshot of this thing but co-op plus zombies was always going to work for me. Amazing. The game plays like the intro almost.

How does multi-player work - will I get paired with randoms if I try it? Might get some of my pals to get in on this. 4 player co-op would be ridiculous.

If you have a PC that can run it as well or better than the 360 version, then go PC. But if you don't (or you prefer Live), then there's nothing at all wrong with the 360 version. It's a fine port.

WTF??

My old PC can run it, the textures, lighting, etc... aren't as nice as the x360,
but there's one thing it can still do, that's play the extra free maps and mods.
Why would I choose the x360 just cause the graphics are better?

You can invite friends to form a party, or just quickmatch. You can set filters to pick difficulty.

I. Love. this. Game.

and it's just the demo....this might end up being my GOTY.

Now firstly, when I heard and read up on this game, i didn't look up too much info, just found out the basic premise and thought (oh...it's like the CS:S mod that has zombies...cool) cause I always liked that mod. Figured I'd buy it off the strength of that concept, but thought it would be a pretty shallow game...but these guys took it so much further with the many different types of zombies, the healing factor, the ability to do some real teamwork, the quick talk actions for important notices (like yelling if u need a heal or thanking someone for a heal, or pointing out a pipe bomb, etc) to where it's far from shallow. On the surface, this game is shallow as fuck, but the game itself is actually pretty deep......etc

This is like what I would have imagined resident evil co-op to be like, but multiplied by 1000.

I don't want to complain, and I'm not, really, as I've already gotten over ten hours out of the demo (which is a lot!!)... but Expert is now too easy. ): Yeah, sometimes the director takes a giant shit all over your chest and rubs it in with a urine-soaked sock filled with vomit. But for the most part, it's clean and methodical execution. Even when the people I'm playing with are fucking around (Capndrake and his stupid medpack!!) we manage to finish with everyone alive.

I know the full game will bring new levels and whatnot. And I will play the shit out of that shit. But sadly, the challenge has kind of gone away for these environments I'm used to. I see the same thing happening with the full game.

It's still fun. Don't get me wrong. But the challenge is dwindling!

Thankfully, Valve is good at adding new content, and mods are also awesome. So it's not a huge deal, really.

If you thought the regular was fun you will think the co-op is a god damn blast. You are matched with randoms unless you invite people from your friends list but I think a game like this encourages a more co-operative crowd to play it rather than the typical xbox crowd.

Friends on 360?

Don't care about mods?

Not everyone shares the same opinion.

Of course, it is my honest belief that the PC version is superior in pretty much every way. BUT. Who the fuck cares if someone wants the 360 version. Chillllll.

I hear you, but understand we haven't even gotten out of the first area. Expert could be extremely difficult in future levels.

I think the challenge is going to be harder. Remember the subway stage isn't the full stage, so you still have a bit to go to get to the end. Also each stage start off the same health/items you ended on the previous. So I figure the full game you'll be pretty ragged by the end levels.

Yup. I bought it for the PC myself, but after playing the 360 demo I found it to be just fine. It's definitely an online-oriented game, so if you have more Live friends then that could sway you to the console.

Yep, I know. Just voicing my concerns, really.

Hah, earlier today, we made it all the way to the end of the demo with all our health at 80+ and two extra health packs.

To be fair, though, the director was being nice.

One thing I've noticed after the last patch is that most of the time we get put into servers with an easier difficulty level than what we specified in the lobby. Make sure to hit tab once you're in the server to see what difficulty your game is at and if it's wrong, call a vote to change the difficulty. You have to call another vote to change the difficulty after changing maps too. I hope this gets fixed soon. I think that some of the people who are complaining about the game getting too easy have experienced this without realizing it.

was about to come in here trolling because I couldn't get the online mode to work on PC, then I see a stealthy little blocked notice from Windows firewall.. vista am fail

the little bit I've played of single player so far is pretty nice, and it reminds me of Resident Evil Outbreak, one of my favorite multiplayer games of all time (and I'm aware that I'm going to be alone in that sentiment)

I just got done playing a round with a Zoey that kept killing Louis whenever they were the last standing or if he was downed. She never attacked anyone else. :/

I'm getting mad audio hiccups and screen freezes while playing. I assume it's whenever it's real-time loading stuff into my RAM. Here are my specs, what could be wrong? (I play Crysis at 60 fps, and other Valve games at full-everything 60+)

Core 2 Duo 6400 2.13GHz
2GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 8800GT
Windows XP Pro SP2

Odd should run fine, defrag your HD maybe?

Update to SP3 asap, it's got better game performance.

That's very strange... This has happened in the past with Valve games though on initial release. I have it running smoothly and looking decent on a P4 2.8 and 6800GT on another PC, so somethings not right. As others have suggested: defrag, shut down any anti-virus software, etc, etc.

The PC version will be more than worthwhile im sure.

On a side note, where are all my Half Life 2 single player mods and level packs? Half-Life 1 had an insane amount of great single player mods, level packs, etc. HL2 has been out for quite awhile now, yet nothing.
Well off the top of my head both Minerva Mod and Rock24 are extremely good SP mods.

Oh, after all the whining about the matchmaking in the first few apges, i think the lobby system is excellent.
I do agree that a server browser will be essential for mods and custom maps but for a quick jump in game it works fantastically.

Something is wrong with your PC, not the hardware

Fantastic clarity, range, looks, price, warranty. No drivers either.

I got a refurb on eBay that looks brand new (2 actually, I got one for a friend) for $22 shipped. $11 for an awesome mic. :D
This thing is wonderfully easy to use and gratuitously sensitive. Thanks. :D

Mic problems being resolved, I can finally join in with the online crowd in confidence. Remember me next time you want to play, TF2 crew.

Issue that pops up with multi-core processors, open up the dev console and enter "mat_queue_mode 0". Fixed it for me.

I was gonna be fancy and shop up a raYne Bat signal, but I'm lazy.

In that's stead, I'll just shout.

RAAAAAAAAAYNE. WHERE AAAAAAARE YOOOOOUUUUUUUU.

Vyse ain't home/ready yet but just checkin' to see if yer alive.

I might need a better USB headset than this old logitech PS2 headset. Voice input is fine, but I cant get voice output to come through the headset speaker.

Source engine and multi-core CPU... a match made in hell, no wonder they keep PS3 at bay.

Is this game supposed to have a story mode, or is it just a Co Op game?
No cutscenes or anything like that if that's what you mean. What you see is what you get. Everything's told via the characters themselves and set goals (again issued by a character or a "voice" on a radio for example) in the various maps.

I swear they're all referencing their junk.

Just gotta be good at dodging and/or taking them down before they leap on you. Either way, should always have a buddy on your side to smack them off.

Before they jump you? Sure, shoot/burn them.

If you get caught, you'll obviously need a teammate. Just like with the smokers. Hell, that's the point of the game.

Yeah I see that working perfectly...

Louis: "Zoey... I think I love you!"

Zoey: "Oh Louis! I never knew you felt that way! I have something very important to tell yo.. SHIT THERE'S A HUNTER ON ME AND A BOOMER JUST PUKED ALL OVER ME AND FUCK WHY'D YOU WAKE UP THAT WITCH YOU DUMBASS!"
