Are there other zombies or have we seen all of them?
Boomer

Witch

Smoker

I hope there's more in the other levels.

i saw these comparison shots on another forum...im really impressed with the player models actually stand up very well against RE5, they've deffinately been increasing the poly count and texture resolution on the source engine lately.

The AI Director can be so damn cruel sometimes. :lol So we get attacked by a tank while all of us are pretty low on health and slow. Flaming tanks are pretty damn scary. He knocks the shit out of three of us and Oldschoolgamer is the only one left alive. He retreats back to a train car and eventually kills off the tank. Soon after a hunter comes which he takes care of and then a boomer who barfs on him. While getting overrun by a mob of zombies, a smoker shows up as well and ends up strangling him to death. This game is too much fun playing with great people.

Post of Awesome Coincidence.

Long version:
I guess I should Lay a little back story for the picture above, as on its own it seems lame.
Basically we were all doing the jump to the air condition unit on The Apartment. As my luck would have it the second I jumped, a smoker grabbed me midair and began to drag me in, still midair of course. You can see where it's tongue is still connected to me, or was connected to me in the pic also.
All while I'm hanging there this hunter is dead set on getting me and keeps jumping up and trying to grab me.

Short Version: Awesome game is still awesome.

P.S. Has anybody seen this room before? I've been playing this demo for 18 hours now and have not once seen that room...replayability confirmed.
On a play through with Tekno and some randoms a shit load of zombies came busting out and attacked us. On the apartment level, right after you go down the first set of stairs. Past the Kitchen.

thirdpersonshoulder is a really fucking cool way to play. I can't wait for someone to release a RE4 mod for this game. Just change the reticle to where you're shooting, change it so you're always walking and you need to press Shift to run, and you're golden.

That killed the hell out of my moment of glory. :lol So awesome. :lol

I hope there's more in the other levels.

Valve has said there will be more boss zombies, survivors, weapons and campaigns later as DLC. For now, those are the only ones.

Bunch of times.

As a matter a fact, an interesting question was raised in one of our games last night.. Sonnyboy was wondering how the hell the people that lived there even used that room, considering busting through the wall is the only way in or out. :lol

Crookedrain, oldschoolgamer, others, are you playin the 360 version or PC?
PC. The pics are a dead giveaway.

Ok, since the retarded people left the game, it was me, a friend and 2 AI... on Expert, they're not THAT good...

Anyway, we were cruising through the subway and, the moment we go up the stairs after the first room, a tank is in the middle of the cars.
Ok, we get owned by them, but i manage to kill him of.

We keep going, and right next "room" there's a witch. Ok, me and my friend say we might as well kill it. And then we did.

We keep going nicely, hordes of zombies and boomers up our asses. Anyway, we get to the pillar filled room and.. ANOTHER FUCKING TANK!

That one managed to kill us, but damn, two tanks on the same level? That's just brutal.

Alright, so I posted this in the demo thread, but I might get some better responses here, I hope:

Ugh, after playing the PC demo, I'm completely torn again between 360 and PC. I currently have the 360 version pre-ordered, but after that PC demo, god DAMN. Looks gorgeous and runs absolutely flawlessly, and with much better controls. Downside: I don't know anyone who is getting it for PC except for GAFfers, and for some reason I can never manage to arrange any games with you guys. I have yet to play a TF2 match with any of you guys :(

So here it is GAF, the decision is in your hands! Either I get it for 360 and play with my pals with inferior controls and graphics or I get it for PC and 3 of you must pledge your loyalty to me and will actually play with me!

Go now... and choose wisely GAF.

I really wish they'd show what kind of algorithm they are using for the director.

PC. Great graphics, great controls, lots of new senarios from other people, and lots of PC GAF already playing.

You don't arrange games with us. You add us to your friendlist and then just join the game/server whenever we play. Problem solved.

Agreed, I'm really intrigued by whatever it is they have going on the technical side of things.

Ultra pro-tip. If vomited on or if a horde comes running and you are near a room with a door, take cover inside room and close the door. Forces the zombies to bunch up and try to bust through. Makes it a bit easier to kill off.

Also the toll booths in the subway are pretty safe with the doors closed.

Also lol at Guled. He got decked with a brick through a window.

Costanza got messed up big time on the roof.

I wonder if they're doing a neural nets based algorithm or genetic. I have read in interviews the data set is huge.

I might try this tonight (downloaded yesterday...work all week though). I still haven't really seen comments though...does the AI do more than throw more/harder/faster zombies at you (or less if you start failing)? Reading some of the hopes for this game almost made me want to start programming again and try to do AI. I'd like to see stuff like zombies that go for doors if you block windows, or zombies that start working to flank you if they figure out you're hurting them when they bunch together.

While I love playing this game online, I find a couple common tendencies among random players that really drive me nuts-

Keep moving! If you stand still, the director simply throws more bosses at you, you should always be moving forward.

Watch the friendly fire! On expert, I find your teammates can be a lot more damaging than any of the zombies. People need to learn that- 1. When a swarm comes, don't move! I can't count the times someone in front tries strafing and walking right into a shotgun blast. Also, crouch and aim upwards! This is an easy way to minimize stray bullets.

You don't have to kill every zombie! I can't tell you how frustrated I get when my team will just stand in the middle of the road at the end of the first level, getting raped by boomers, hunters, and smokers, while the safe room is just down the stairs! You don't need to explore every room, and kill every zombie, because as long as you stand still, they keep coming! Sometimes just getting to the exit is a lot more important than increasing your e-peen with some pointless headshots.

/rant.

I was really surprised how smooth this game played. I dont have by any means a bad computer, but I just surprised how smooth everything went after playing Fallout 3..i guess.

I would assume neural nets, genetic seems more fit for finding "optimal" configurations, whereas the director is supposed to pace the game.

supposedly it does a lot more. It's supposed to also adjust to create drama. It definitely isn't just throwing stronger zombies at you. It changes placement, numbers and combinations. One time a smoker got me and as it was pulling me a boomer vomited on me so the horde came straight at me... i died....

I've also yet to see a in the same place twice. Director also changes music and sounds.

Yeah, but you should at least check a few rooms. Especially on expert. You need all the pain pills, pipe bombs, molotovs, and extra pistols you can get.

Expert mode requires a good balance of exploration and progression. Too much of either will mess you up.

Item locations are randomized too, so no running to one item spawn spot.

Alright I decided I'll be double-dipping on this.

44.99 for steam version
48.99 for 360 on Amazon

both games for 93 bucks seems like a great deal considering how much time I've put into the demo

You know, I didn't even know it's raining in the apartments level until I saw screenshots becuase rain doesn't show up with my low graphics settings. :lol

I will have a new PC the week after L4D releases though, so alls good.

Yep.

The PCs in the pawn shop (you have to use noclip to see it) have little computer parts that fly out when shot, you can identify motherboards, dvd drives, power supplies, etc.

*fires the raYne signal*

Not sure if you're around, but I think we will in 30 minutes. We need you raYne-man. (lol pun)

I have everything on max and still didnt realize it was raining.

I played it and found it fairly enjoyable, but I think I'll skip out on it because it looks like it will get repetitive quick. Is there any story and other things to do to push it along or is it primarily blasting away at hordes of zombies in different settings?

For some reason, I think Left 4 Dead will have longer legs than Team Fortress 2 for me. Probably because I'm not a huge fan of Team Deathmatch and Control Point style multiplayer.
