The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

I called it like 2 years ago,
saying this game would be the Game Of The whichever Year it comes out. :D

Finished 2 Campaigns, So awesome.

Can't wait for user made maps/mods,
this game is gonna last a long time. :P

what an amazing game...

played through some of No Mercy on expert last night with 2 friends and a bot....

On the sewers map, in the warehouse, we successfully bypass a witch without startling it. As we get to the exit of the warehouse, stupid AI Bill turns around and starts shooting at it.

People just don't understand this scene.

Picked it up today, finally getting around to installing it - pity I have to sleep for work >_> Damn

L4D gave me the scariest moment in my gaming history thus far...beating out the zombie dogs in the classic Resident Evil...you know the part I'm talking about.

I was playing with 3 of my friends on expert mode. We had made it past the first chapter without too much problem. It was the second chapter that was really fucking with us.

After numerous attempts, we eventually made it up to the warehouse room. From below it we could hear there was a tank in the room...so we started prepping a plan. I was going to run into the room and hit it with a Molotov and run back downstairs, where my 3 other friends would be waiting with our recently upgraded weaponry.

Everyone sets up, but for some reason my one friend went into the room first, shouting "I'LL DO IT! GET DOWN THERE!"... I was like wtf...but did it. Next thing we know he's shouting on the mic and he's listed as DOWN. After a bit of screaming, I thought I heard "GET UP HERE AND HELP ME!"...so I go charging up the stairs all vigilantly.

I see he's on top of one of those big containers in the room, no fucking tank. At this point I'm standing at the top of the stairs just kind of frantically looking around for where this fucker is. Next thing I know the motherfucker DIVES FROM OUT OF NOWHERE from screen right and punches my ass down the steps. I'd like to say I manned up and valiantly fought the beast...but I screamed like a terrified girl and literally froze up as he punched my ass down the steps, delivering the final blow.

It was so awesome. I couldn't stop laughing, and obviously neither could anyone I was playing with.

The game is so much more fun when you're playing with people, I can't possibly imagine playing this game single player.

I will be purchasing this puppy after work today, without question.

Also went through the commentary. Very interesting. Sounds like TRS/Valve was just lazy and thats why the created the AI director. They just didn't want create so many spawn points. :lol
In the end, it works better this way. The levels aren't nearly as predictible and it makes custom map design SO MUCH EASIER. I'd love to see some Half-Life 2 maps all zombie'd up.

Anyone on the 360 version loving it?

I'm going 360 with L4D, mainly because my friends have no PC's worthy of any kind of gaming.

Me but I won't have the game until after gamestop opens up :( I really love the game on both systems but I had to get it on 360 because of my crappy pc sadly :/

I've finished the first three campaigns on Advanced/Normal. No Mercy, Death Toll and Dead Air. One more to go now, although I might save that for tomorrow as it's getting late here.

Each 'movie' takes about 1h 20min to 2hours to complete. It's great fun if you can get three other good players with you.

I have to see this to believe this, but my friend told me someone did this:

"Also, playing as a tank is a blast. On the last map, the female survivor in our game was running for the chopper and our tank punched her so hard that she flew into the chopper door and out the other side to the street below!"

:lol

Holy fucking shit. :lol :lol

Went through No Mercy and Death Toll last night. I didn't get the achievement for completing them which sucks because A)My friend's friend had to fucking do a last stand halfway across the rooftop and a Tank just kept hitting me while I WAS IN THE HELICOPTER. B) Smoker sucked me from the shore to in front of the house where a Tank started smacking me around.

Been playing since I got up a few hours ago, amazing, finished the end of No Mercy of Expert with only three of us as the AI for Francis seemed to be get confused as we were hiding in the closet.

I played until 3:30 last night with a couple of Valve guys and a random person. This is the greatest Co-op game ever IMO.

We died like 6 times on the finally of No Mercy until we forced the valve guys to give us their secret strategy. After which we still died once more but kicked ass fully the next time.

Awesome.

Also advanced is not to easy, people are crazy.

The director is running them too!!!
DUH DUN DUH!!

Could be

Just hide in the closet next to the ammo/radio, and when the tank spawns run out and deal with them, run back, kill the second tank and then just chill outside waiting for the heli.

That's how we beat it on Expert with the three of us anyway.

Haven't had a chance to play it yet...God damned work...but it is sitting on my computer.

Question, is getting into a game smoother than it was in the demo?

Vook, I read it comes out on the 20th. Do you know if any stores are selling it early?

I just asked at EB today when I was picking up Gaijin Training (My Japanese Coach) on the off chance (had no idea when it was out) and they sold it to me. Should be out everywhere now.

Our strategy was three of us with auto-shotguns patrolling somewhat, but staying fairly close to the middle, while one of us stood at the highest point with a hunting rifle. The guy with the hunting rifle on his perch -- FatalT -- was able to pick off boss zombies (other than tanks) almost at will. I got grabbed by a smoker a few times, but he was sniped almost immediately every time.

Almost got through no mercy on expert last night, and would have done it if I didn't have a meeting to go to this morning.

My team had so many epic fights on the sewer and hospital level. On the sewer level at the loading docks where you have to raise the lift to get to the roof we pushed the button and could hear the music start up but no zombies. As we moved across the roof suddenly the parking lot below us starting filling up with them, which was one of the coolest things I've seen this game do yet (see a large pack of zombies off in the distance coming for you), then we had a fight with them that proceeded to last about 4-5 minutes, in which two of my teammates ran completely out of ammo and were shooting pistols. After that we had to enter the warehouse with a witch right in front of us.

Made it to the finale and and a tank slipped past whoever was manning the turret and killed everyone except Zoey, who fought off the horde as best she could before going down just minutes before extraction. It was late so I called it a night, but I know I'll be thinking about playing this all day.

Reading all of these posts praising verses mode has got me pumped... :D

GOTY, easily.

NOW!

Man, the game is so frustrating when playing with random people and you always get that asshole who leaves everyone behind and just sprints for the door. You laugh when he dies because you warned him, but then you cry when he always seems to make it to the safe room. :(
you let that guy run off on his own and get smokered or huntered.... then don't help him.

Dicks get what they deserve if you let them.

Also don't let them out of the closet.

Sounds pretty good. I'm sure there are many strategies that work. I think the next time I play I will intentionally use a different one.

Just survived Death Toll as the last person remaining on Advanced, it was awesome. A Tank incapacitated me on the dock (The boat was almost there), but he got killed by the only other remaining teammate just before he delivered the final blow. Teammate helped me back up and I was on my last life, then the boat came into view and a horde plus another Tank came out of the forest :lol

Teammate went towards them while I stayed right at the end of the dock with like 20 HP left, boat arrived and I jumped on it while the other teammate was incapped by the Tank :lol

I'm pumped for the SDK update. I would like to see someone convert the last forest map in HL2:EP2 where you fight the striders and hunters with strider busters and the jalopy.

Please stop describing how fantastically epic this game is.

...please...? :(

My teammates and i were playing No Mercy on expert last night. While we got to the subway, one of the other players through a molotov into the train, setting the whole thing on fire. Suddenly, a smoker grabbed the guy who through the molotov and dragged him through the flames. It looked like he was being dragged into hell itself. After that, a tank came right behind us and took us out. Talk about EPIC. :D

I'm sure I could look this up, but it's much easier to ask here... Does this game have split screen multiplayer?
Please say yes, please say yes!

Yes. For two player. I assume you're talking 360, anyway.

If not, there's a sort of hack to play PC splitscreen with a 360 controller plugged in! Naturally.

Taken out of context, it could be a man clapping to show lots of respect, in a SRS way.

Stop nitpicking.

Picking up my copy from Gamestop today at lunch.

Only problem is, I got into NXE last night, and my buddy (who I usually play the demo with,) didn't. I hear voice chat between NXE and Non-NXE is messed up? I might have to wait until tomorrow to start going through it.

Or play with Gaffers.

On the 360, there is two player split screen.
