I'm surprised to see that people don't like to use the grain filters.

I love them and have mine cranked to max.

In fact, I have everything cranked to max and get locked 60fps with triple buffering.

I certainly don't get the hate for this game's graphics. I think it's one of the best looking games I've seen this year.
well i do too... grain filters aside, i just have those set to whatever is default... but i'm sure those people criticizing the graphics aren't taking art or number of things going on at once into consideration.

so mine is a middling rig with about a 9500 3dmark06 score. what kind of performance can i expect at 1920x1200? mediocre performance has hampered my enjoyment of ra3.

The lighting is nice, especially when it comes to enhancing the atmosphere, but what makes the graphics for me is mainly the great animation on the zombies. It's consistently impressive, especially when they get shot and die - perfect mix of ragdoll and animation. The gunplay itself in general is such a huge improvement over the Half-Life series that I almost can't believe it. The four protagonist character models are fantastic, too, especially when you're viewing them in 3rd-person when dead or spectating.

Just got the 360 version - exciting.

Did any of those guys who started their runs last night at midnight actually finish the game on expert?

It's brutal, couldn't make it through the 3rd map of the no mercy campaign. Me and friends going to step it down to advanced. Even though we made it through expert on the demo multiple times, this is just insane.

I didn't max the film grain, I'm at about 70%, I love it. Other than that, I'm running the same as you. Great looking game.

god this game is so much fun, GOTY.
i still can't beat no mercy even on advanced, i'm gonna have to try it on normal :/
i haven't even played the other campaigns yet!

Yeah, I tried a single player game this morning on Advanced, got to the rooftop finale, and got my ass handed to me. I can't wait to get some buddies on later in the evening and play through.

I know about those fools. I was referring to the ones who randomly call votes to boot mid-game and/or kill their entire team. I haven't been in one solid co-op game yet.

I actually did that today :lol :lol

I was having some problems yesterday while playing (my laptop crashed twice) and wanted to see if it would happen again today. Then I realized that I didn't have my mouse with me at that time >.>

Wow talk about being an ass...

Unfortunately it's guy's like this twat that give PC gamers a bad name. I picked L4D up on my 360 to play on the home theater rig, and downloaded it via Steam for my laptop.

Either way, the game is simply phenomenal and Valve is to be commended yet again.

Just ignore the ignorant haters, and love this Zombiefest.

Brrrrrraaaaaaiiiinnnnnnnssssss. :D

I played random co-op games all night last night over Steam since my friends were asleep, and I had an absolute blast. Even when I got into games where people weren't using mics, we still used some natural teamwork (the game facilitates and encourages this in amazing fashion) and everything went very smoothly. Only one game even had anyone dropping out at some point.

Nah, man, touchpad is as gimped as dual analog. I'm a PC gamer, bitches!!!

Seriously, Left 4 Dead with Wii graphics still rules.
Speaking of Wii, I got to try L4D with a Wiimote. With waggle mapped to melee.

Well, I'm going to have to double dip... A few of my friends who I used to game with exclusively on the PC, have bought it for the 360 because of their aging rigs :/ I'll have to set aside time for dual-platform L4D action!

Yea and if the survivors are on the ball, it's pretty much heavily in their favour. The Infected abilities are too weak against the Survivors on normal. Played a whole campaign last night. It literally takes a hunter almost a whole minute to kill someone who's at full health.

You are not supposed to kill a Survivor in one go. VS is not Team Deathmatch. Each sides has its own ruleset. Survivors still run around with only 3 lifes and without respawn. And you don't even need to kill them all. Just incap them and it is over for them.

After playing the god awful looking, horrible controlling 360 demo several time thru. I decide to check out the PC demo to see if it looks/plays just as weak.

Only valve pulled the demo from steam since the full game launched!

Funny but after playing demo I feel like everyone else is hypnotized because this game has valve's name on it. This is a company that treats it's fanbase like crap as well. Even EA doesn't pull demos after release.

/hate over

How did that post happen?

What? How many games have received more free, substantial updates than TF2? If anything, Valve treats its fanbase remarkably well.

Apparantly this is the official PC L4D thread so you aren't allowed to comment on the quality of the title... you know gimped port and all. *insert shitload of rolleyeyes here*

Yep its pretty obvious where Valve likes to spend its money in R&D and I love there philosophy as well. The animation, the physics, the Director, the bots (amazing) all in one package is just really impressive.

The VO for the characters is pretty solid as well. Four survivors screaming and yelling for help. Crazy how it all works though. Gotta love that Valve polish this game received.

Yeah how can anyone say that Valve doesn't treat their fans well. They reward them in fact. Sure we have to use Steam but I'll take it if its a damn good service (which it is) and I get free content patches for my games. You can bet L4D will receive the same treatment as CSS, DoD and TF2 where they are always adding content.

I don't know what my 3dmark would be, but my rig is about 3 years old now.

Specs:

Single Core Opteron 144 @ 2.7ghz
2Gigs of DDR RAM (can't remember the speed, but they're value RAM)
256mb 7800GT.

L4D Demo chose every video setting at high/Highest, MSAA/FSAA 2x. Was smooth like buttah. Runs better than TF2, even.

UPS still has my 360 copy somewhere, but going by the demo, the port was done serviceably well. The controls are smooth and responsive, though I wish there was a way to turn off the slight bit of auto-aim.

The graphics suffered the most, which is surprising given how well-optimized the PC version is. The 360 version is simply jaggarific.

I'll probably be playing the 360 version most, so I'll report back once I get it and put some time into the retail build, to see if anything's changed from the demo version.

Cool, thanks. Maybe I'll double dip. Though I've been a PC gamer literally since birth, PC FPS communities always intimidate me because I'm not much of an FPS player at all.

Held off the horde on the roof on top of the hospital. Took out a couple Tanks and hundreds of zombies, so all's going well until we make a mad dash for the choppa. Then, for some reason, AI Francis decides to cover us and be the last one to make it inside. This gives a Tank just enough time to climb into the chopper with us! :lol

Chaos all over the place and people are trying not to get killed at the end. Thankfully, right before the Tank hits us with a ground pound, Francis finally jumps into the chopper so we can make it to safety.

The best thing about the VO in L4D is that it can actually be quite helpful in gameplay terms. The characters automatically yell out where there's ammo and items, where you're supposed to go next, when they spot a Witch/Tank/Smoker/etc. It actually makes it so that it's not as crappy going through a level with nobody voice chatting, though still not ideal of course.

I think he means the 360 fanbase. The free money guys.

@astro: No problem bud.

I am really unhappy. When most of the people falls in love with a game, usually I understand why, even if I don't love that game. But in this case, I am so disappointed for every aspect of L4D (graphics, gameplay, sound), that I really don't get the point. Are we sure that, if this game would not come from Valve would have collected so many good opinions?

Are you really suggesting that your negative opinion is the "true" opinion on the game and everyone else has stars in their eyes? BRILLIANT!

I'm picking up my 360 copy after work, and I can't wait. Played through the demo several times and thought the controls were great. I never even used the quick turn button, never felt like I needed it. You can set different sensitivity for x and y axis, great feature. Graphics aren't the best, but more than seviceable and it ran really really smooth. Anyone worried about the 360 version need not be. At all.

Well it doesn't help when posters say they can't find a single redeeming quality and wonder if people only like the game because they're brainwashed and the Valve logo is on it. People aren't gonna defend the PC version after that?

People don't praise Valve games because they're Valve games, but rather because Valve has this habit of making games worthy of praise. They take a long time to make each of their games, and that shows in the final product. If you don't like it, fine, but don't try to lump everyone in with you. A lot of people do greatly enjoy the game. And I'd suggest you play the PC version before coming to any negative overall judgement on it. Not to knock the 360 version, which I'm sure plays fine, but the PC version is notably improved in some areas.

Just played it for about 40 minutes and it was great. No hiccups for me and the game was as fun as hell.

Need mor Live friends so shoot me an invite so we can do some MP. Same handle as GAF.

So I heard that those people who bought the four pack of the game were given a fifth copy of the game because the game was released late. Would anyone be willing to sell me that extra copy? PM me, thanks!

Why does the platform matter....THIS GAME IS GOOD ON BOTH!

PEACE MERCUTIO, PEACE!

Damn you Amazon. I would have waited for any other game, but when you ship out my buddies game saturday and plan on shipping mine on the 24th, you suck. This is one game where once 4 of us have it it's going to be every night until we're sick of it. By the time I get my copy they will have played the shit out of it. I may cancel and pay the extra $11 just to play it with my buddies.
