The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

So I was playing on advanced for a little bit by myself so far and I got past the demo part on No Mercy when I hear a helicopter. So I run to look out the window and I see the chopper hovering above the street, but before I knew it a Smoker grabbed me with his tongue from the street below and pulled me out the window. Needless to say, I was obliterated by the swarm below and my teammates had no idea how to respond. This game is so fucking awesome :lol
 
dl'ing on pc right now. also ordered a new headset. convinced my brother to get it for pc too since his 360 is currently out of commission.
 
I just played through one campaign (the one with the airport). The team work was pretty good too, even though I've never played with my team mates before (I just joined some game lobby).
 
Also, my friend died 3 times during Blood Harvest, and we accidentily left him at the end, and he still got the achievement. Meanwhile, I died either once or no times on Dead Air, and got nothing.

So apparently Steam released an update that is incompatible with my computer. I've scoured the depths of Google and no one has found a solution to the problem. I guess I just have to wait for the next Steam update. Fucking. Great. :/

I can't even get Steam to launch. It updates, gets to 99% then abruptly ends and if I try to restart it nothing happens. Uninstalled and reinstalled about 5 times. No change.

There might be a problem with the registry keys. Try using ccleaner yet? (after an installation)
 
What's the deal with the weapons? I'm going through solo to get a feel for the levels and I beat the first 3 campaigns and I haven't seen anything other than the Uzi, Shotgun, M16, Hunting Rifle, and Auto Shotty. I thought there was supposed to be 10.
 
Holy shit, this game rocks. Just been blasting through No Mercy in Versus, switching between Survivors and Infected and it's blowing me away how much fun this is.

So great switching from desperately trying to survive past waves of infected to griefing the SHIT out of the survivors (I am king of the Smokers ;-) )

Fantastic.

Tried deleting ClientRegistry.blob
 
Is it keeping any files in the uninstall? I think its the ClientRegistry.blob file that is quite important to Steam, I know deleting that is sometimes recommened?

Something like that has happened to me. I think it eventually just stop happening after a cleaning of the registry and restarting.
 
Heh, the
"better safe than sorry" guy apparently turns into a random boss zombie. I've seen people saying he turns into a Smoker, a Hunter, and I saw him turn into a Boomer.
 
ah, amazon screwed me. my friend who lives about 20 minutes from me, got his copy in, but mine won't be here till tomorrow.

we still played 6+ hours on co-op today.
 
might be light on the friends who are playing this on 360. feel free to add acid snake12 if you're in the same boat.
 
Holy CRAP. I did not expect this game to be so popular at retail. I went to pick up a copy using EB's Trade 2 get it free deal (well they owed me $0.01) and the line was HUGE. Lich King huge. Was PC version. Didn't see anyone pick it up on 360. Were a couple of people getting Fallout 3 on 360 still.
 
Beat Death Toll on Advanced today, it was pretty awesome.

That guy who just rings the church bell and screams "ding" had us all laughing, we stopped laughing when the zombies came running, though.

^ Want to know how I got knocked down this deep in the lake? Well, a Tank walked up to the deck of the cabin and threw a mean punch, I must have flown 100 meters at least. Louis saved me, though, and this turned out to be a winning run for us.

^ Literally a foot away from the boat, I'm dragged back to the very beginning of the dock into a swarm of zombies. I didn't make it, but the other two guys did.

Have you tried going in the registry (start>run: regedit) and searching for and deleting everything with either 'valve' or 'steam' in it? Apps like CCleaner leave a lot of stuff in my experience. I don't know, worth a try maybe.

If that doesn't work, reinstall Windows ;).
 
I'm still debating if I should get this for my laptop or 360...

i got to the end of Death Toll with a friend, but we both died, while the AI Bots made it on to the boat, and it counted as beating it :lol
 
Just picked up a 360 version too.

First double-dip of the year. Far Cry 2 didn't count since I got rid of the 360 version after a couple days.

Bring it!
 
The only thing that could make this game better is more weapons. We know the levels are coming, but hopefully we'll get some new weapons and maybe a couple new super zombies. That would pretty much make it perfect.

what the hell is a FX7600?

CPU wise you might be a little lacking but for the most part I think you can still play low settings. Did you try the demo?
 
Me and my brother and two other guys just beat No Mercy and Death Toll on advanced. This game is so much fun and intense. We had a good thing where the two people in front would crouch, the person in behind them would walk, and the last person would face the other way and cover the rear.

Yesterday, me and random guys just could not beat the end of No Mercy, and we tried like 5 times with different strategies, but today our team did it on the first try. We all stayed in the bottom floor of the building with the radio. One person for each of the 3 windows and one person covering the front double doors and the back door to the stairs. And when the tank came we just got him stuck in the windows and shot him to death. This is the best multiplayer game in a long time.

I can't wait to see the other two levels and play as the boss infected.

GeForce 7600.

No, I never got a chance to try the demo. Right now I only have the option to unlock the game.
 
Me and my team must have tried the 3rd level of No Mercy at least 30 times on expert to no avail, yet the game felt fun and fresh each time. I'm so pleased with L4D, it's incredible.
 
Jeez. I just spent almost 3 hours on the finale of No Mercy. Every single time, every boss zombie would spawn at once and break through the door to own us all on the roof.

Also, sorry to everyone who tried to join my game and received the 'Server Shutting Down' message. The admin was kicking everyone he didn't know, and even after telling him that they were all friends, he continued.
 
I think i am in love with Death Toll, absolutely amazing campaign. One moment that stuck out in my mind...we were at the cabin waiting for the boat and the second Tank appears. We all see him running straight down the forest, so me and louis throw perfectly timed molotovs one landing slightly ahead of the other one. So the tank has to go thru this gauntlet of fire and we all train our fire on the fire and he makes it thru but by the time he jumps up to the second floor of the cabin he goes down like crumpled paper all the while none of us getting screwed by him and we run to victory, so awesome!!!

Play on expert. It will extend your playtime considerably.
 
I think versus mode is my favorite part of this game now. I played through No Mercy about 4 times today on this mode, and loved pretty much every minute of it. L4D is going to show its legs with Versus mode and custom maps, for sure.

L4D is $40 at Circuit City (plus another possible 10-20% off due to liquidation sales), and Best Buy will price match and give you 10% of the difference. Plus it was $40 at Amazon for pre-orders for almost a month. It's $40 at Fry's too with a chance for another sale on Black Friday.

I actually went to CC today. They didn't have it at mine for some weird reason (the pc version anyway).
