Um... I spawned as a green tank yesterday and it was at the end of the map. Pretty sure only difference is the model, not the spawn mechanics

this mod was not amusing:

This is a good link on how to beat Dead Air. Seems like a good setup. Gotta be quick though.

In my experience, that is not the best place. There's a fence to the right of the plane that you fuel up that everyone can pack into... zombies only crawl over one part of the fence, and then the rest you can see from a mile away. Boss zombies don't do hardly anything there, and there's plenty of time to run from the tank... additionally since the tank can't corner you very well, everyone can get ammo quite easily.

I joined a game on the finale where they where they had set up shop by this fence... it only took two tries, and we messed up pretty badly the first time.

Cool, seems like that would be easier than camping that back room spawn i guess.

Haven't had any success joining any games with people in the NeoGAF Steam group; is there something else besides clicking the name to keep the "failed to join for (unknown)" message from popping up?

Not sure, but unless you're friends with at least one person in that game, you won't be able to join it, no matter if you're in the same group or not. (If it's a friend's game of course)

I tried playing the game just now and it is patching. Says it will take over 20 mins (!) but patch notes say latest patch was 2 weeks ago... I played yesterday

A lot of luck. I'm pretty sure I joined once or twice (demo days), but most of my attempts ended in failure messages (causing me to just stop trying.) It just doesn't seem to work well that way. Best bet would be to send friend invites to those who play a lot and join through the game.

-Dead Air and Death Toll now playable in versus

Hopefully someday soon :(

Edit: Mine goes straight to the game, and the latest patch was earlier this week i believe, it was small but still a patch.

Could be corrupt files or summat. Redownloading. Just a guess.

hmm... patch history says last update was 12-5.

This recently happened with me and TF2, a week after latest patch I had to redownload it for some reason

i know it's just a model, but the only times i've seen it used has been on fast spawn servers. (probably 6 or so times)

Spawning as a tank in the 4th or 5th levels in Versus is frustrating. Those auto-shotguns and assault rifles often fuck you up before you can even get a hit in. The tank needs to scale up with the weapons given to players at the start of a level, because he can be such a bastard in the first couple of levels, but by the end he's just like a Boomer that can't vomit.

it all depends on where the tank spawns. If he spawns near the end of the level, he's still gonna be tough to take down as the survivors are probably all int he yellow/red. If the tank spawns at the very start of the level, then yeah, I agree. The only problem is when a tank spawns in NM4 at the very beginning and the other team gets him near the end, by the rooftops. They should make the tank spawn equal, like what they do with the tier2 weapons.

Never had trouble with playing the tank, just make sure you go for the one who is outside the group and if they all stick with each other break them up by throwing cars/concrete/trees at them. You will be surprised at how effective that is, I tossed the tree on level 4 (I think it is) on Blood Harvest and took them all down in one hit with it. Got me that achievement for taking down all four people as a tank.

Huh, you can break down the roller door in NM3. To be specific, it's the door you can open from the inside to help survivors dragged down by a smoker. It takes a while, but since it lets you skip the whole lift event that doesn't really matter. Another thing to patch as that's pretty much the only decent VS event.

e: shooting at it doesn't apparently work, but melee does

This game has been ruined by glitches. Until last night, this was by far my favorite multiplayer experience on 360. Now, I can expect that every time the elevator doors open in the hospital, there'll be a generator blocking the door. Ditto with the forklift-in-the-warehouse-door trick, the run-to-the-melee-able-door-and-skip-the-horde trick, the pull-off-the-roof-insta-death, and the 'alamo' ramp.

Thanks for breaking the game, loser 12yr olds of the world.

Pretty much.

Blood Harvest seems basically unaffected(for now atleast), but I can't wait for them to add the other two campaigns now that No Mercy is almost unplayable at this point.

Yeah, exactly.

I only play Blood Harvest in VS now. We need a patch.

I don't agree. The problem with the tank at the later stages is that people tend to try to play it as a lvl 1 or lvl 2 tank. The problem with that is, of course, the lvl 2 weapons. What you're SUPPOSED to do is cooperate with your team to have them pick off two or three of the other survivors, while the tank goes in and annihilates the still active ones. It's COOPERATION :D

The problem with this is one of two cases. In one case, survivors manage to guess where the tank will spawn and/or hit it with a molatov INSTANTLY upon spawning. In which case, you have to charge forward before you die in 40 seconds anyway.

In the other case, you spawn in a horrible location such as a hall, and 105% of players don't realize that if you lose control of the tank, it will (as far as I know) simply switch to another player. Thus they will say "I GOTTA RUN MAN I'M GONNA LOSE CONTROL" into the voice chat, and run blindly into death while everyone else is spawning. With the halls (primarily in the hospital or maybe sewer), I'm still not sure what the best option is, but I suppose good smokers and hunters and boomers could still manage to distract one or two of the survivors, enough for the tank to get in rock-throwing range.

That's what I try to do whenever I'm the tank. I just try to scatter the group and hope the hunters/smokers will distract the rest and let me chase down one guy. Anyway, it still doesn't change the fact that it's completely unfair if one team gets a shitty Tank spawn and the other team has a good one.

I've seen so many matches break on the Tank Spawn in the fourth level of No Mercy. The Tank is pretty much useless inside the Hospital has he goes down in like 10 seconds, but if you get him on the rooftop, he can smack a forklift into you, punch you off the roof, and most likely at least ONE of the survivors will be in yellow health.

Yes! No Mercy done on Expert. 1 down, 3 to go.

if you need any help or need another for a team let me know.. i am trying to get through Death Toll and Blood Harvest on Expert and have yet to find a good team on either of these campaigns by joining a lobby. After playing each of these levels for 5 hours at a time and failing due to people who refuse to use a mic or use teamwork, it is becoming disheartening. My GT is blahness, anyone that wants to play as a team please add me. I usually have a large enough block of time for l4d expert in the evenings around 10-11pm EST.

I think I'm approaching the end of the blocking phase for my level (it's the second level of the campaign). The official levels are actually pretty short, so I don't have to stuff in a large amount of paths and whatnot.

If anybody from this thread would like to help me test it for fun factor among other things, send me a PM. I figure I'll have an ugly version that's L4D compatible ready sometime during Christmas break.

Is this game worth buying on 360 even if I already have it on PC? I'm only reluctant to buy it if the controls/graphics are significantly worse, but I want it because some of my friends already own the game on 360 and they don't own good enough PCs to play the game on.

Absolutely. Sure, the 360 pad won't allow you to be nearly as accurate as a mouse, it still handles perfectly well. Valve even added a 180 turn with RB. Graphics look great, and the framerate is stable.

I really hope they support the game on the 360, I can't wait for more Vs. maps.

or alternatively, use it as an opportunity to explain to them that it just wasn't working out, and move on to new and superior friends.

Man, I wish I'd knew this before a friend, myself, and a random person ran through and finished Death Toll on Expert. We had to kill Louis at the end as he wouldn't climb up on the rock for the finale.

My Gamertag is ShogunOfPain if you ever see me on. I still have to do Dead Air and Blood Harvest on expert.

So pissed. Went through a campaign with no one being vomited on, but no one got the stupid achievement.

In other news, I finally beat Blood Harvest on Expert. 4/4.

Fuck servers that switch around teammates after each round in versus.

Is that really a server option? I thought maybe it was just part of the game. I agree -- it is DAMN annoying.

If Valve patched out being able to choose "Expert" on Versus, they should patch out the auto-switching of teams as well. It sucks so bad.

I'm satisfied with my purchase. It does look very good on 360, even though it's not quite as good as PC at max settings. The controls are also great. Glad I double dipped on this!

And I didn't know about this 180 button; that would've really come in handy on the No Mercy Sewers stage.

Big thanks to Scarlet for helping with blood harvest expert...I finally got WHAT R U TRYIN' 2 PROOV. The end is just ugly...maybe I'm not remembering how expert was, but I don't remember other levels having tons of special zombies -while- the tank attacks, and regular zombies that seem to do 20 HP in a single hit. We had to try the end like 6 times because the tanks would always kill us when they'd do something unexpected...we only won when they got stuck outside the house on the ledge.
