Exact opposite. Open the door. And as long as you don't jump down. The initial horde has to climb up in just two spots. Easy killing and the infected can't do anything about it. Then run to the corner. Snag free run then.

If you want to even trivialize it more. Have someone jump on to the ledge on the other side. He can check above and below. No real place for the boomer to hide outside of the first corner while the other three can still watch him. Then proceed to move.
Killing regular infected is just a waste of time and the special infected can jump down and melee or possibly smoke one down. Anytime you are staying still killing regular infected when not boomed, you are doing it wrong.

:lol This is an excellent way to get you and your team wiped out at the spawn room door.

So I installed the Windows 7 beta and am wondering if there's anyway to specify refresh rate. I usually play at 85hz and I think it's running at 60 and no way to change that I can see. I'm assuming it's the same fix as Vista (if there is one.)

I played a couple pub matches (that weren't horrible) to test and things seemed to be good outside of that. It's also nice not to be the first loader and start with things like hunter and boomer.

New game-mode idea: Holdout

- Team 1 (4 Human players).
- Team 2 (4 Infected players).
- Each team has a turn as human, switching to Infected like Versus when their turn is up.

- No rescue vehicle comes
- On-screen timer pops up on screen when you hit the radio

- Teams get points for staying alive, with point multipliers occurring at 5, 10, and 15 minutes
- Whichever team gets the most points added up from all 4 finales wins

Round One: No Mercy - Rooftop Finale
Round Two: Death Toll - Boathouse Finale
Round Three: Dead Air - Runway Finale
Round Four: Blood Harvest - Farmhouse Finale

This would be terrible as a) finales are boring b) there would be no reason to ever leave whatever corner you decide to defend

a) zomfgwrong
b) Breakaway walls, tons and tons of 'em.

Edit: c) Separating health, ammo and grenades by larger distances.

They are totally boring after the first dozen times playing them. I've played games with teams where everyone just drops for the 5th level.

I like the crescendo events in the middle of the level, but when it becomes the level, it's lame.

As far as I know, there's never been an option to lock the framerate in left 4 dead, something that I've complained about for quite a while. My framerate ranges from 90 fps to like 150 fps in Vista, typically, with all the highest settings in windowed 1280x720. You can check the fps with the net_stats 1 command or whatever it is.

I love it! Reward players EVEN MORE for turtling!!!

Seriously, you'd have to change quite a bit for this to work. The easiest method I could see is adding a "territories" system where the survivors had to move from location to location to stay alive/earn points.

I disagree. Expert finales can get pretty intense, even though a lot of us are familiar with the game.

Like I said, more breakaway walls and moving vital supplies further away could be sufficient. Sure, the survivors could still turtle in the bathroom of the boathouse on Death Toll, but it'd much less effective if the healthpacks were in the cabin a couple hundred meters away and if the wall behind them was breakable.

It's still the same shit every time, even on Expert. It's "get in the safest corner and don't get hit" except with more of an emphasis on not getting hit. It's boring.

Closets/exploitable areas are boring, yes, but that's not how I like to play anyway. Congregating around the minigun is the best place for an exciting finish.

So I've been thinking about a finale for my own campaign, and I've been toying with the idea of in addition to separating must-have items from each other, I could add breakaway walls to a bunch of critical locations, so much so that there isn't a corner you can hide in without exposing yourself to a zombie rush.

Thoughts, zombiegaf?

I like finales like they are in campaign mode.

It's only in versus that I absolutely detest them. Even with the tweaks Valve introduced.

Still, it might be fun to have something different. You could always let us playtest it. O;

I'll definitely have a public playtest for it.

Oh, and I was thinking of having breakaway ceilings too >: D

Do infected take fall damage at all?

I never thought to ask before. O:
They do from a certain height, but it has to be a crazy tall height. Even when they fall off the stairs in my map, some still manage to survive.

Fuck yeah! Finally got my hands on these suckers. Slightly disappointed by the poster, but the mouse pad is fucking awesome.

Even more awesome would be an elevator with a breakaway ceiling . From "Ah, time to heal" to "oh fuck its raining zombies."

That does sound awesome. I hope you can mount breakable walls onto moving objects.

I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about the refresh rate. I use a CRT monitor and it was hell on my eyes playing at its selected refresh rate.

And I know it wasn't in my head, because my monitor wasn't even calibrated for the refresh rate it defaulted to. At 85hz, I have my monitor settings so the picture fills the screen. At the 60hz(?) setting it defaulted to, I had a 1/4 inch black bars surrounding the entire screen. So I know without question it switched to a lower refresh rate that I'd never properly calibrated my monitor for.

fps_max xx (where xx is whatever you want your max fps to be) doesn't work in console for l4d? I know it's not strictly not a framerate lock, but could help a little.

Yesterday me and 3 other friends (360 version via system link) played the whole game for the first time and we had a lot of fun - the game is simply amazing, looks very good and the controls are awesome especially for such an intense and fast game, Turtle Rock did a great job on the 360 port.

Can't wait to play some more! Also got the Cr0wnd achievement last night. :D

I hate you! I still can't get this damn Achievement. I have done everything I can think of - I've killed her in two shots with a shotgun, I've hurt her enough that she died immediately from another shot by a different survivor...but I've never killed her in one shot

If I remember rightly, she has so little health on easy difficulty that you can do it with a single scoped hunting rifle round. I've never tried it, but that's what I recall from the breakdown of health/weapon damage.

Game doesnt look too hot but it is creepy/fun as heck!

You do get use to the look and it does grow on you. A really good example of gameplay over graphics, despite it being able to show off some fairly impressive graphical tricks.

Peels here! :lol

Get right in her face with flashlight off, and wait for her to stand up. When she starts screaming while on her feet, shoot.

If it works, it doesn't show up in the default list of command completions in console. I guess "spectate" doesn't either. But as far as I know, that command works in pretty much all Source games BESIDES Left 4 Dead.

Here's my story:

Me: "Hey guys get L4D"
Them: "Oh yeah i heard good things about it, i'll get it for 360"
Me: "Yeah I was thinking whether to get the PC or 360 version, I will get the 360 version if all of you are gunna get it"
Them: "Oh definitely, I hear its really fun with lots of people"

*fast-forward a week*

Me: "Yeah i got L4D, ready to play?"
Them: "Yeah...uh...I don't really like it, i'm not gunna get it."
Me: "But I can't have the (inferior) 360 version sitting here with no one to play it with!"
Them: "Yeah it's too fast, i don't know what the fuck im doing. Plus you can go through people. I don't like the graphics. I'm gunna stick to gears, its WAY better, plus im better at it."

played a crazy <5 hour session on dead air last night with Crooked Rain (who happened to be kinda rusty) and a couple of other doods that we know (Demimatt, Saizo).

It doesnt help when a player has only had the game for a week, and he decides hes so hardcore that he only wants to play on expert.. also hurts when 90% of the time he'd be using a sniper rifle. woo woo.

we ended up with the 2nd tank timing out in the finale or else i'm sure we would have been there for a sixth hour.

this game rules, but i could have played CoH campaign and TF2 for a couple hours a piece in that whole time. new players should learn and love to melee!

Everything is tsundere to me
alright, just bought it off of steam. saw some guys playing it on the 360 over break and i need something to break up all the CoD i've been playing on Wii...
