Popped over to Resident Advisor and tested it on their podcast and it works there. Tried it on a random mix on Mixcloud and it did not work there. Hm.

edit: soundcloud is totally down, so can't test that.

That Hemsworth mix is really nice, great for night listening. Really liked the Broken Social Scene edit.

Forgot Kuchibiru Network 3 came out yesterday. Tracklist looks pretty great.

This Hemsworth mix is sublime.

Your avys always interest me, where do your source them from?

for those who enjoy my French Electro (Neudisco) list on Spotify:

I've been really pissed off about the new Spotify updates and i'm thinking of migrating to Rdio.com, the playlist is being compiled here:

And those who missed out or dont use Spotify/Rdio. Check out some of the artists via these convenient Youtube links. For that 80's Technoir vibe!

I'd invest in vinyl if I had a use for them...

my friend used to buy a ton of DnB vinyl until the main distributor shut down.

That player looks slick and modern, I don't really know what is considered good or not. I try not to be an audiophile, perhaps I am a bit. Looks like a task for HiRes.

Andrew Bayer is releasing his second album on April 15, entitled "If It Were You, We'd Never Leave."

Is it me, or is that a Battlestar Galactica quote? Awesome if so.

Variety of places. Usually screencaps of BR movies & tv shows. Sometimes random photos deep from the internet that I liked. This one is a cap from the uk show "Utopia." Edited of course.

H∆SHTAG$ - Don't Call It #Beats - Episode 4
For the fourth episode of H∆SHTAG$ - our web series chronicling Internet-based music - we take a deep dive into the fledgling beats scene. Flying Lotus, TNGHT, The Gaslamp Killer, Shlohmo and XXYYXX are just a few of the artists that talk about how a small LA club night and circle of friends turned into a truly global phenomenon and transformed both electronic music and hip hop along the way.

Red Bull Music Academy also put up a bunch of MIDIs for a bunch of artists here. The TNGHT ones are hilarious.

Perhaps it's a little bit off topic, but a new thread is a bit too much. Are there any producers/dj's in this thread? I'd really like to learn the basics of dj'ing. Right now I have Traktor. It's fun but I can see how software only limits me. It's much easier and more fun to play with a digital controller.

They all seem quite expensive and I hear a lot of people say I should get one with a soundcard (so I can split headphones/boxes). A friend recommended theHercules DJ Control Instict Controller. It's for sale for €90.

I have seen a few other cheap ones on Amazon, but sadly I live in Europe, and they're WAY more expensive here.

I understand that a cheaper ones limits you, but I don't feel like spending $300 on something I'm just starting. It's purely meant for home connected to my desktop. Nothing more for the moment.

So my question: does anyone have cheap recommendations?

What's the absolute most you want to spend? You have several options. Let me know your price and I'll weed out the good ones for you. I use a Reloop Digital Jockey 2 IE with Traktor. Cost me about $400US, but it should be available cheaper now (I would also imagine it'd be cheaper in Europe as they are a German company.)

Let me introduce you guys to CLU and one of my favorite, current tracks:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5IBjamM5Is

I'd also recommend subscribing to that channel (Noisey). It's not all electronic music but includes releases in the genre, some (like the one above) that I probably would never have heard otherwise.

On a completely different note, (fairly) new Solarstone here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBAwQhdXq8A

And here's a Youtube channel I started on which I periodically upload my favorite tracks from the past:

My friend's wife is playing Boiler Room NYC with Nico Jaar this Saturday, guest list here I come!

You lucky bastard! Take a copy of space is only noise, get him to sign it and send it my way please!

I use a Mixtrack Pro with Traktor. Its ok but id pay an extra hundred or so to get something abit better with hindsight. I really like my mates S2 but that thing is £400..

Cant pickup a mixtrack for £120 odd brand new or between 80-100 second hand.

Awesome! I'd really appreciate it!

What would I like to spend? €75-100. What can I spend? Well more, I find it hard to set a hard price point. Perhaps it bores me after 2 weeks, I'd regret spending too much money on it (I don't think that will happen though). I'd rather not go over €150. If you have a few recommendations above it it's no problem though, prices probably vary a lot of the US.

A few notes:
- I already have the software (Traktor).
- Right now it's purely meant for home like I stated.
- The digital controller you mentioned is €299 here.

Edit: I'm also ok with buying something second hand, so if you have more expensive suggestions they're welcome as well.

I'm in love with Disclosure at the moment. Only've heard Latch and The Face EP....Face is so awesome. Latch is good too.

Ejeca is becoming a star for me. His first two eps and some random tracks I've heard are stellar.

Citizen too....what an interesting sound he has.

I have been a vinyl DJ since the mid-late '90's. I can beatmatch by ear and spin on 3 decks at once if I feel the need to. I started using TraktorPro and a MacbookPro along with timecode vinyl about 2 years ago.
Since then I've continued to improve at mixing but I'm actually probably a worse DJ because now digital download music is so cheap & accessible compared to vinyl that I don't have time to learn all the music I get. Food for thought. Anyways, DJing is still a super fun hobby.
