Halcyon is widely regarded as the best for vinyl, at the moment. They also usually have a Friday afternoon mini-DJ gig. I know FaltyDL spins on Fridays often. Dope Jams WAS one of the best for older cuts, but that just shuttered at the end of January (the online store is still up if you want to take a peak at their stuff.) I'm sure there's some hidden gem out in Queens or Long Island I'm unaware of, so ill look into that. There's also Other Music in Manhattan, your Avicii needs are well covered.

Cmon ebay! treat me well for once! Got a bid on a set of decks for £5 with an hour to go.
I only want a record player but sod it might aswell get them if I can for £20.

Also the amount of people losing their shit over Daft Punk cracks me up. I wont deny they got me into electronic music when I was 14 but jesus, some people are frothing at the mouth.
Maybe Im just in denial, since Alive ive put up with tour and album rumors for 7 years and Tron was not what I hoped it would be so im just abit jaded.
If the album drops before I leave on the 26th Ill be damn happy and if they play Glastonbury I may have some kind of joy overload.

One day, a friend of mine gave me a record she got for her birthday but didn't like. That record was Daft Punk's first album " Homework " .
I came home, and played the thing. It changed something in my brain and left me with an energy and an excitement I hadn't felt before.
So I played it again, and I've been playing it for the past 15 years. One week after that I stopped my Nirvana cover band to buy a computer and a sound card. I was 15 and that's how I got into electronic music.

Since that day, all my efforts went into trying to make a record that would make people feel the same way, that would make ME feel the same way.
Do Thomas and Guy-Man feel like that when they listen to their own records ? I hope so, if not they're missing out. Much like my other heroes Kraftwerk, they get perfection out of simplicity , which is the real challenge. They are like a magician ( no pun intended ) that reveals his tricks to you but still you stare at him without understanding. I've tried to crack the code, copy them, tried to sound like them until I realized it's not the way to go ( I couldn't anyway… ) and I had to try to come up with my own identity. There is something so special and specific about the way they sound.

All their records were influential, the artworks, the videos, let's not even talk about their live show which is the best thing dance music brought to us. How can you compete with that ? You can't. And you shouldn't. They've been criticized for the sampling ( even by me, I regret it ) but thing is I wouldn't have been able to come up with One More Time, which to me is the best example of how to use a sample to create something new.

Today a 16 second video got me shaking. Physically shaking. I can't wait. I missed them. They know how to push our buttons and how to create incredible buzz and expectations and always match it . Nile Rodgers on the guitar ? We've known that for a while but hearing it sound exactly like what you dreamt of is an incredible feeling.

Daft Punk is the reason why I want to stop making music. They are also the reason why I want to keep making music. It gives me the hope that one day I can hit that spot and make someone feel like I felt today and 15 years ago.

They are back. Thomas, Guy-Man thanks for everything, and even if we've never met I love you both.

Lost my ebay bid but then found a set of decks, a mixer, mats and some vinyl on gumtree and lowballled an offer of £50 and hes took it.... I only want it to play my records on not actually get into vinyl mixing! D:

hey, i've got some very basic/noobish questions that i can't quite answer for myself.

i'm putting together some demos and for the beats i'm using Finger Labs DM1 on my iphone (mostly because i can use it whenever and wherever and i like the touch-based interface). so then i'll take these beats and export them to iTunes as wavs and then drop them into Garageband on my macbook where i can record guitar or whatever over them.

my issue is that even when the DM1 project is the exact same BPM as the Garageband project they slowly fall out of sync... i can quantize (to like 1/16) the DM1 wav to fix it but that can fuck up a beat that's rather complex.

i just don't get where in the workflow this issue is originating from.

alternately, is there any cheap/decent OSX app for making beats? doing it all on my phone can be rather unwieldy.

The sync problem can be solved with using a DAW that has a warp function (you can put warp markers in the audiofile and match it with the grid).

Ableton's Warp function is the best out there (don't quote me on this, I've heard this many times) and Logic comes as a close second. They're both pretty costly though.

never thought id say this but i am liking this avicii diplo and friends mix, think of what a normal avicii mix is and take the complete opposite, its refreshing

Got some Decks!
Guys place was grim as fuck but I got them home and they work, just need some new needles. Even got a bonus bag of 18 vinyl Fuck knows what half of it is, only 4 have sleeves and there is a Ram Records Remix of long dark tunnel thats the only thing I half recognize. I think some of it might be jungle.

The mixer.. jesus how the hell do you mix with no hi/mid/low?
Its just a fader, volume, two gains and I think thats it. Still It stops me from getting any mad ideas about vinyl mixing.

Hopefully have it up and running by friday and then im going to rinse all the records Ive bought for the last 12 months :)

Time to start youtubeing these songs..
