Fuck. Are you telling me this is going to be a goddamn dubstep concert? FUCK FUCK FUCK. I love me some electric house, though. Maybe they'll play enough of that to make me happy.
Ahahahahaha. Suck it.
I fucking hate it too. One of my fave live DJs, Don Diablo, lost all respect from me when he cut into dubstep midway through one of his sets. He used to be awesome.

Is that Tiesto? He looks like a bloody gorrila! Hes huugee!
He looks more like a tool than ever. DJs who are fully built just look really weird.
Great track, horribly overplayed.
Yep. That's what happens when you hit the top of the Beatport charts :(

Edit: TOMORROW, BITCHES.. Madeon and Oizo alone make the ticket price worth it.

Don't miss 2 Bears. Joe Goddard is destroying it right now and I guarantee you will hear his Gabrielle track, which will blow your mind on a loud system.

Haha, that's not Tiesto, it's Afrojack. Tiesto is about 6'5 though.

I thought he was tall but not built like a monster hence the confusion lol

That sterosonic seems pretty good! I would suggest Subfocus and Andy C aswell if you dont have anything on you actively want to see both are alot of fun live

Steve Aoki plays a lot of bombastic electro house and dubstep... he's got a show on Sirius XM that I'll sometimes catch on the commute home from work, but contrary my weeaboo roots I'm not that much of a fan :p Here's this one: Tiesto and Steve Aoki - Tornado

Went to the identity festival in Vegas over the summer to see Pretty Lights/Rusko/Crystal Method. Steve Aoki was there so my friends and I wanted to check him out cuz we hear so much about himself online and see videos but have never heard his music......

First his setup had AOKI for the entire stage. Started off his set with some hard bangin house song while he jumped up in the air for the entire time......we gave his set a good shot for about 15-20 minutes. Had to walk out, it was just so souless. Seems he tries to act like a celebrity more than an actual DJ. Just the first impression I got, I probably need to listen to his radio station to get a better feel for for what hes trying to accomplish with music and his actual personality. While we were waiting for The Crystal Method to play outside Aoki comes through the lobby with like 7 people surrounding him shuffling him through the crowd. We all just wondered if he was just walking around like a normal person would he attract that much attention versus having a entourage. He was acting like he couldn't handle all the people trying to talk to him or be around him. All while Crystal Method is chilling by the pool acting like normal people, which in turn nobody is bugging them only occasionally asking for a pic. Maybe I don't realize how popular Aoki really is????

steve aoki is gross.

Thanks for the tips, folks! It's good to know there are a few people playing that I hadn't heard of that should be good. It's looking overcast though so fingers crossed it doesn't piss down.

Is it time to vote for a split? I wouldn't mind seeing trance and progressive moved to their own thread. Dubstep got their own, why can't we trim the rest of the fat? (sorry if this ruffles a few of the older heads feathers but you got to agree that it is mostly the young fist pump crowd that wanders in here and treats us to this stuff)

Wow, I'm really glad I wasn't around when I would've had to sift through posts about shitty, cookie cutter dubstep remixes to get to all of the jams this thread exposes me to.

Ive been posting in here since I joined gaf (back when touchbass used to do mixes ;) ) and I've got no problem with any kind of music being posted here. I can't be arsed following four or five diffrent threads especially as this one consists of about ten regulars and the odd phantoms that say hi drop a link to promote themselves and vanish again!(the worst!)
Seems sad really as I would have skipped over an enormous amount of music If I stuck to say the dubstep thread..

On my phone but as far as I remember there has never been anyone posting trash remixes. Also that's a mater of opinion as some stuff people post I don't like atall but then I just don't comment lol

I wouldn't mind seeing a lot of artists banned from appearances in this thread, but we can't have everything we want. It would be like having a 'Cheesy dance pop |OT| of don't know any better' but I would rather we kept this thread inclusive, regardless of personal taste.

To report back, wasn't a bad day out. Zombie Nation and Oizo fucking killed it. ZN moreso because he just pushed the fuck out of every punter there, myself included. Oizo was wacky and filthy as expected... and he played Positif :D

Poor Madeon's stage was fucked from the beginning, with having next-to-no volume and high-end coming out of only two speakers on stage mounted at chest-height, meaning that unless you were next to them, someone was likely to be blocking the sound ergo he'd sound shit. Two people away from the front stage and half the time I couldn't work out the lyrics to what he was playing. Could hear well enough to tell that the kid has a phenomenal grasp of music theory and history, putting together stuff that no 17-year-old has any right to be familiar with.

Afrojack wasn't too bad, but he played basically the same set (almost track-for-track) as a gig that had been broadcast as an Essential Mix. LMFAO were one man down AND quite possibly the worst act I've ever seen perform "live". Just woeful.

But yeah, strongly recommend that if you have the chance, see Zombie Nation. He quite literally had me speechless on more than one occasion.

Oh, daviyoung: as far as top producers of the year, off the top of my head and in no particular order, I'd have to say:
Madeon
Format B (really lifted this year)
Maceo Plex
(probably one or two more)

There's been a massive drop off of some producers this year. Duck Sauce have been fucking horrid and A-Trak hasn't done anything notable this year in the slightest. One I'm keeping an eye on for next year to be massive is Switch. I predict a comeback from him in a massive way. He tore me a new one in 04-06 (from memory) but then dropped off, with the exception of some production duties and Major Lazer.

NYC-GAF: Tomorrow marks the beginning of my residency at my friend's bar in Boerum Hill! It's called Bijan's, and I'll be spinning every other Saturday (and tomorrow, duh). Starts at 10 and goes until I stop. Drop by and say hey sometime! Lots of deep and funky disco and house, it's gonna be fun.

RE: Producers of the Year:

Xhin
Kuedo
Shackleton
Planetary Assault Systems
Alva Noto
Mark Fell
Tommy Four Seven
Blawan
Machinedrum/Sepalcure

Could keep going but I'll try to be concise.

Yessss Miroku.

Alva Noto should be on every list every year. His stuff is consistently great, and he is absolutely incredible live.

And Blawan had a banner year, not only because he produced a great array of critically and commercially successful tunes, but because he was able to help beat back the tide of the "dubstep has one sound" crowd.

Man that Numbers warehouse party was easily in my top 3 nights of the year, so fucking good.

Hudson Mowhawk was the stand out, just destroyed it.
Its crazy that I only originally wanted to go to see JamieXX and I only managed to catch 20mins of his set as I was right in the thick of it for like two hours with Redhino then Mowhawk so by the time he came on I was strugelling to stand up from the heat and lack of H20!

Stayed until the lights came on at 6am and then Jackmaster played That Streets song "lights are blinding my eyes" or whatever its called then three hilarious songs from the 80's that had people jumping around, signing along and shit it was so so so funny.
The state of the crowd must have also been hilarious at that point.

I have absolutly no idea what the Numbers label genre is but its sounds awesome live
This song had the whole place going crazy! Shame there isnt a full and proper version of it out yet.

Gotta disagree with you on that one, I think trance and prog certainly have a place in this thread (I may be biased because I love prog)...

Producers of the year? Maceo Plex is the obvious pick for me, man has been on fire with his productions. Maya Jane Coles as well.

Yeah I agree to an extent. I am never bothered by the stuff you post or talk about. Maybe you should take these new posters under the wings and at least show them decent prog with half a brain?

Some good choices of producers, guys! I'll add these to the list:

Andy Stott
Peter van Hoesen (his remixes this year are unrivaled)
XDB
Recloose
Maxi Mill ("Sun Rays" is my song of the year)
Conforce
Axel Boman

This year has been pretty stellar and 2012 looks to surpass it.

MAH was a radio host on BBC1 and has since moved to XM. Her show is a electronic showcase and her DJ sets are full of the new stuff she likes.

Big release on Pelican Fly today. Go buy it immediately, sadly only a 262 iTunes release.

Big sounds there, really dig it! Gotta check out that Pearson Sound mix, that man has never let me down.

Just finished getting all my tracks in one place for tonight. It's going to be a weird night, for sure. I'm trying to think of a few more "familiar" songs to play, because it is, after all, a bar, and not everyone there is going to be jamming out to Maxi Mill and Art Department. I've thrown in a few Talking Heads, Blondie, things like that. Just looking for a handful more, so if anyone thinks of anything like that, let me know!

Jamie Jones at #1? Interesting. He's been slaying it this year with his remixes, but I haven't heard much in the way of DJ sets by him. Solid list, but not all that surprising. Leagues ahead of DJ Mag.

Just found out I've been making Four Tet's coffee every morning for the last two weeks at my restaurant. Never realized it was him until just now, and then everyone goes, "well, duh." nice guy!

I'm listening to this, and would like it more, but it comes off as being a little too straight forward and stale.

Jacques Greene needs to put out another mix.

Agreed, the blends could be better and the selection is all over the place. But there is some fire in that list for sure.

I'm honestly surprised at the huge representation of the minimal crowd on that list. The genre may have fallen out of favor with a lot of the music press, but so many of those guys are technical wizards. If you haven't had the chance to see Hawtin or Villalobos, jump on that as soon as you can.

I think it is a testament to the average age of RA contributors. The 30-40 crowd still hanging on. (nothing wrong with that, most of my friends fall into this group)

anyone know where i can get some recent breaks sets? last time i listened to anything new that was breaks/breaks-related was probably 2006. i have no idea what the scene/genre is like now and who the big players are. does zabiela still spin breaks?
