I was in the Army from 1981 to 1985 as a 35E. Special Electronic Device Repair i.e. Infrared Searchlights, mine detectors, and starlight scope repair. Basic at Ft. Sill, AIT at Ft. Belvoir, and permanent party at Kaiserslautern, Germany. Can't believe its been almost 30 years. Damn now I feel old. :(

Oh one of them. Either you fly a jet, fly a desk, or work in nukes or intel. I know you're not a maintenance officer because nobody really cares about them.

4 years active Army as a combat medic (91W), got out in 2005. Jumped out of planes, lived in and traveled Europe, went down range, even did some time as an STD counselor. :lol Great times and a great experience.
Where were you at in Europe? I was in Weisbaden, Germany for close to three years.

Stationed at Camp Lejeune, though over half of my time I wasn't even there.

Thinking about re-upping still since i have 2 years of IRR left.

Just say what I say, "I work on computers". Don't have to go into why I have SCI or what the computers I work on actually do.

Taking my ASVAB Thursday. I know I'm really only at the 1st step, but I feel like I'm finally getting somewhere.

Thanks for making this thread...I've wanted to make one since I joined GAF. IT in the USCG here. Brother was at MEPS today, said he sat in the same chair from 0900 - 1600 because he already had everything squared away. No phones, no reading, just sitting. Sucker doesn't know what he's getting into.
Of course he does, I helped him in :D

Just for fun, go to one of your lesser ranked brethren and tell them to get the [insert made up acronymn] and walk away.

For the sailors: "Get the key to the seachest" or "Ask the DC's for a DC Punch" always ended in laughter.

Navy Hospital Corpsman, worked at Corps School for like 5 months, currently attached to FHCC Great Lakes.

For a rating that requires a lot of work, we usually get treated like shit.

-Its not as easy for us to get ship billets, usually just end up attached to a hospital/clinic or with the marines.
-Never ending bitching from civilian patients
-We rarely ever get 96s, I mean, for our latest 96 we had to route special request chits. Hell, as it is if I want to take leave for longer than 2 weeks, I have to go talk to the CMC.
-Chances of advancing are lower than most other rates
-Our higher ups are doctors who have no fucking clue about management.

But yah, at least I love the variety, and the fact that I can work around the clinic without having to go through as much training as a civilian would.

Just got out of the Navy after 4 years. I am an RP2(FMF) first 2 years was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan on the USS Shiloh, and the last 2 i spent working with the Marines of 2/11 as their chaplains assistant/bodyguard.

Any questions about the Navy in general i probably can help. Also USMC seeing as how i worked hand and hand for 2 years.

Oh man, I love the RP2 over at corps school, guy was chill as hell.

Didnt know that you guys could also go FMF, respect.

MEPS was the most fun I've had in a long, long time. My group had some old guy trying to enlist, a girl who got to find out that she was pregnant with us, a guy who literally passed out while filling out his medical forms, a kid who did his physical examination in a thong, and a recruiter who 'did it for the pussy'.

Shit was a blast.

While MEPS was fun, Bootcamp was ever more fun, the shit that we did was just insane....

For as much crap as you guys get daily from media, Internet forums and what not all I can say is; thank you for your service to your country and the world!

While not all of us deserve it, Im okay with it as most people do indeed fit with the mainstream image.

And Im not talking about just the enlisted personnel.....

In maintenance we once had a guy from another shop come looking for a "piece of flightline". I'm pretty sure he went to the support section of every aircraft maintenance unit on the flightline before someone finally told him that the "flightline" he was looking for was the entire air strip.

Good times.

I'm in the Air Force. Only just made it through my first year. I work with Nekofrog actually.

I joined cause I wanted to further my education through the military. So far the AF seems pretty good for it too.

lol. I have to use that on the next new guy we get.

hrm, not in military myself but the rest of my family has some military experience. brother currently serving with 101st airborne (got back from Afghanistan a few months ago) and both parents were air force. dad did his 20 years, mom got out after 4. all my uncle's were either army or navy. both grandparents were army and fought in korean and vietnam wars. an aunt of mine is also navy -- the first ever woman commander of a carrier strike group. she's currently out to sea on the GHW Bush somewhere in the persian gulf. yeah, i'm a bit of a military brat...

Send them to support and ask them to get some K-9-P. If you say it all together you should get what it means. When I was a new guy they got me with that and the support guys brought me a suspicious looking container filled with a yellow liquid shortly after.

Air Force (Hence the name)/3D0X2

I've been in for about a year and a half now on a 4 year enlistment, not really sure if I'm going to stay in yet.

Don't get out unless you absolutely hate it or have something lined up in the civilian world. I got lucky, as the job I have now is awesome, but most people have it tough after they separate if they aren't prepared.
