I tested it online today with the regulars and it worked out great. So this Thursdays broadcast should be pretty interesting... I have to rearrange our usual setup, but it'll be great!

That's awesome! The feed was already really good, but now you don't have to worry about people in the chat going OMFG MOVE YOUR HEAD!! DOWN IN FRONT !11! :lol

I'm also really fucking offended by what they've done to Chun Li. She went from sexy and classy, to sub-Team Ninja wanking fodder. Like Capcom just hired the worst god damn 3D porn modelers to create her character for this game. What happened to the muscle definition in her legs? What happened to her abdomen? Why do nearly all of her moves now show crotch, ass, and panties? Why don't Guile's nipples strain as desperately against the tissue paper fabric of his wife beater as Chun Li's do?

Fuck off Dimps.

Seriously.

Additionally character sizes are pretty fucked up. Cammy is too tall (also sounds like a chain smoker), Honda is too small compared to Zangief.

1. What did you like about SFIV?

Game was too god damn fugly for me to find anything worth liking.

2. What didn't you like about SFIV?

SF2 remake in 3D. Shitty 3D graphics. Floaty controls. Characters feeling heavy. Midget arms on throws. Generally not feeling like SF IMO.

Without being a hyperbolic twat like myself, Sirlin articulates some of my feelings on SFEX4 far better than I am capable of.

3. What would you like to see in the second iteration (ala CE or Second Impact)?

A complete do over.

Hand drawn HD sprites. More than just the god damn SF2 roster peppered with some SFA characters and some rehashes from Rumble Fish.

4. What would you like to see in the true sequel (SFV)?

HAND DRAWN HD SPRITES FOR FUCKS SAKE!

Shame on you Capcom, shame on you.

No worries, Arc System Works and SNK will take the ball and run.

...

In fact I'd say the only thing you can get excited about with SFEX4 is the character models themselves. Everything else looks fucking phoned in. Lame backgrounds, characters in the background that look like they came out of the Pimp My Ride game.

I wouldn't be adverse if Capcom attempted a more dynamic visual style that just looked less "generic 3D", but nope. :|

Those graphics are terrible. You're entitled to your opinion, but Street Fighter is officially dead to me because of this bullshit. The new PoP is more visually dynamic than SF4.

Capcom should have gotten Clover to come up with some artistic 3D engine for their monkey asses.

Unfortunately there is more...

That's the way I feel about SFEX4, but on top of having a rather shit character selection - the game also has god awful 3D visuals that continually fail to impress me.

The latest barftastic moment was seeing Rose's Jay Leno jaw in action.

Hell, I'll give Capcom's subcontractors a 3D SF - hell, I speculated about such a thing a while back (and what a fun ass thread that is in light of what we've got today ); but SFEX4 is not that game.

So unimpressive visuals + unappealing character line-up = Double Do Not Want Whammy.

I'd like some Dee Jay, R.Mika, Poison and Hugo, or Alex in there just to name a few.

I'll rent SFEX4, but man - it's going to have to be the Second Coming of Christ in a Gamefly envelope for me to change my opinion.

And for the grand finale!

Having a great time playing Rose, as well. I'm rubbish right now (nine hours into my first Street Fighter since before I was a teenager), but I'm having a good time with her. I'm also trying out Abel and Sagat but with less success despite them being, I presume, better characters.

But yeah, I still suck pretty hard.

ok, so the turbo button on my Hori FS3 stopped working. Now, I never used it but I was chatting with someone about how games that required you to start mashing a single button sucked major ass, so I decided to check out how the turbo function in my stick worked.

It doesn't. I remember on day one my friend fucked around with the turbo button, but that was about it. Now the button just doesn't register anything when I press it. Aside from that and some random moment when my character wouldn't stop left, I haven't had any problems with the stick. So yeah, should I send this shit back in, or should I just satisfy my laziness and say "whatever, I never planned on using turbo anyway"?

I know nothing about sticks.

There should be a fucking Turtle Crush (like the Guard Crush) in Alpha 3 to punish those that just stand there. I swear, 100% of the Balrogs I face just stay there crouched, daring their opponent to....I dunno, fight. Maybe I should just start doing that from now on with ALL of the Balrogs I face.

Oh yeah...I forgot that Blanka makes Abel shit his pants and waits for him to whiff a roll so he can start his Ultra. I gotta remember that. I played one today and after I remembered to stop rolling, the time almost ran out. Jeez. It's like he forgot that he has other moves.

And lastly, some good news (for me at least): I'm nearing 3k :D That damn accidental duck of Blanka's is killing me tho.

Ok...seriously i must be inept against Blanka, but IMO he is above and beyond the best character in the game....dare I say indestructible?

His specials have priority above 99% of moves and they armor break, his range is crazy, his ex balls are invincible, you cant jump, you cant FA...I am lost when it comes to Blanka.

Seriously how do you fight him? Shotos are just a joke against him.

I've found it's not too bad with Sagat, Dhalsim and Chun, although Chun has a harder time that the others. Dhalsim seems to be the easiest.

With Sagat you can abuse LK and MK tiger knees a fair bit, he doesn't really have a whole lot that I can see to deal with it. I was playing a good Blanka the other day, and was pretty much just doing cr.LP,cr.MP,MK TK, and it hits on the way down, which puts him in enough stun to hit another cr.LP. He pretty much has to focus attack through one of the normals. I guess he could hop back too, but this guy wasn't doing that...

With Dhalsim you can just hit MP or HP, he has to guess up-ball or something to beat it, and if you bait him, it's easy to punish. If he doesn't have any EX meter, you can do a jab yoga fire then HP, and if he manages to jump, just hit HK.

With Chun I throw a jab kikkoken if they don't have meter, then mixup between low hits, HCB+K or dash legs. If he does electricity you can do the 3 shorts into EX legs, or HK sweep at longer range. Other than that just play real safe, don't jump at him at all, get ready to block his slide at all times, and watch out for tricks like LP ball into throw, or MP crossup ball on wakeup, or EX kick ball which can crossup. If you block or tech any of his tricks you're usually at the advantage.

I have to be patient with Blanka(using Abel for god sakes)

I can punish his Foward roll after block, he bounces too far for my command moves. Dashing too late cuz he recovers fast.

His Electric Shock is just annoying. No projectile, no sure moves to punish him straight, you have to calculate distance so the VERY TIP of your attack hits him or else you'll be Shocked...its just annoying, the most annoying move in SF history.

To beat him i basically spread my impatience to him, i'll make the fight boring. I'll block every foward roll and run, move away from every Shock and wait for him on the other side. When he makes a mistake i hit em with a combo than run, wait for him, bore em again.

I'll mix things up once or twice but, boredom is my main weapon.

I HATE BLANKA.

Wheel kick to disrupt his charge? Roll through his ball--preferably a LK one to come up behind him and maybe Tornado Throw? cr.LP to stuff a regular ball? And yeah, I hate Blanka too.

E.Honda vs Blanka
-no HP headbutts on a blocking charged Blanka
-jump up HP is your friend
-cr.LP, far MK, far HK, far HP are you friends too
-avoid cross-ups at all costs. when in doubt, do the Mike Ross sacrifice jump back to eat a
jumping attack but not the rest of it lol.
-Keep Blanka out of cross-up distance.
-when in doubt on air-vs-air, do a jumping LK, not much damage, but better than nothing.
-when Blanka has an Ultra loaded space out to mid-range to avoid the insane initial chip damage, remember Blanka has a better Ultra than Honda.
-EX conservation! don`t spame out random EXs because you will need em.
-blocked HP rolls can be punished wit EX Headbutts.
-well timed Sumo Smash shenanigans when Blanka wakes up, break his charge
-punish that slide

During the location tests, there was a guy who chose Blanka and basically sat on downback all day, doing ball, electricity and the occasional slide forward fierce. And he went on like an 18 game winning streak.

I dubbed this phenomenon 'Scrublanka'

slayn

For honda vs blanka,
The nice thing about the sumo smash wakeup stuff is that ex-upball generally misses. It gets blanka out, but you've forced him to use ex at no cost to yourself :(
The times you got me were when I was trying to use reversal electricity but it wasn't coming out or was being beaten or something.

The jump up HP could be dangerous once the blanka becomes used to it. I'm thinking blanka could probably do a horizontal role or walk forward slide to punish it.

Something I rarely do, because its boring, but that I think would be tough for honda is turtle on a life lead. Honda having to approach blanka seems like it would be a bitch.

No HP headbutts on Blanka unless it's to punish. Period. Headbutt on blocked Blanka= free slide.

EX headbutt beats Blanka ultra after he starts coming down.

Honda crouch RH beats all of Blanka's non-super/ultra wakeup options, except for horizontal roll, which is silly to do.

Why Chun?

Chun has so many safe pokes from various ranges, a lot of them give frame advantage and set up easy throws or mixups. It's a slow fight, but if you don't make any mistakes with Chun then you can out poke Blanka all day.

Also she kinda forces Blanka to rely on gimmicks, and once he loses that EX meter you can start zoning with kikkoken.

Someone at the tourney I went to over the weekend said to just block low against Blanka and I tired it last night. It worked a lot better than I ever imagined. I never realized how much it limits Blanka to just sit there. Punish jump ins and tech throws, yeah!

When people play Blanka, why would they turtle?

He is pretty much expressly designed to MOVE. He moves quickly, recovers quickly and moves in strange trajectories compared to most characters (quick jump arcs, variable arcs on rainbow balls, quick diagonals on upballs, et al). His attacks actually project him at opponents (and through/under/over their projectiles), and his game is predicated on being up-close to people. Even his super/ultra is made for punishing people who like to turtle themselves!

Shouldn't you not be turtling when playing Blanka, or am I playing him wrong?

This depends on the matchup. The reason balrog is such an aweful matchup is that balrog has an answer to every one of blanka's offensive movements except on wakeup and so you have to play careful.

In general though, I play an extremely offensive blanka. I'm always on the approach.

I think most of the newbie Blanka players turtle for a very simple reason, which is the same why most newbie Rog players turtle and most newbie Guile players turtle.

Charge moves.

The perceived charge required by someone who doesn't have a lot of experience is MUCH longer than the actual charge required by most charge moves. So they turtle a lot, charging, and hoping to get a move in.

Of course, in some matchups, it's necessary to turtle, but even then I'm sure your Blanka will eventually go on the offensive once you find an opening (which isn't the case with most charge turtles anyway).

Haha, I suck at SFIV and play just for fun since I haven't had the time to devote myself to the game since I've been reviewing so many games as of late and been on business trips visiting developer studios.

But if I see you on, we can definitely play. I've only heard good things about how you play and your attitude (the Guile player had nothing but great remarks about your Dictator).

As for the tournament, no worries -- I know you are the more active one and if you can't play your match before tomorrow night/afternoon, you'll receive the automatic advancement to the next round as you are clearly the more active player and have the better record. Besides, he's playing as El Fuerte haha... I see him going down in flames to your Dictator.

In relation to Yeb, yeah he's been tearing it up in the tournament. He's facing a Ryu in the Final Four of the winner's bracket who has done well for himself too. The Dhalsim player is also turning out to be quite the intelligent player and may give you the run for your money if you make it to the Final Four of the winner's bracket.

Has the GAF tournament come to a close yet? I'm going to have to check the results here, I used to follow the bracket for the fun of it here.

It depends on the matchup. I play Cammy and usually have a tough time against turtle blankas. I usually try to bait the Blanka ball because I can counter with a Cannon Drill and Ultra on block. I love that.
