I honestly don't know what you were expecting. It seems like alot of people get caught up in Penn's myth. He is a great fighter, not god. Penn doesn't finish fights off his back, and the only weakness for Penn to exploit was GSP's boxing, but it was obvious GSP corrected that flaw after the Fitch fight and it isn't like Penn could take GSP down. GSP had the advantage no matter where the fight went.puebla said:yeah, all of the hype killed it. bj didn't even look like he wanted to be there.
Are you really surprised. He is far and away the best striker in MMA right now. There's a reason why he doesn't get touched during his fights. Hopefully they throw shogun in there with him.Fafnir said:Machida get's KO of the night...the only KO on this card![]()
BJ just got dominated, it might be a bad year for him...

Sorry dude, after seeing GSP fight, at this point it's like expecting Silva or Fedor not to kill their opponents.puebla said:a good fight? i understand GSP had most of the advantages and expected him to win but not by a blowout.

The Machida fight is actually the best fight in the whole bunch since he did a clinical Ryu Street Fighter string combo on Thiago - and then ending it with a double Shoryuken.Pimpwerx said:I fell asleep as the Mashida fight started. I'll have to catch a replay of the GSP fight, but glad to see he won via amateur facial reconstruction surgery. That elbow may not be a scalpel, but it'll do the job all the same.PEACE.

Oh yeah, I called it.Me said:George St. Pierre vs. B.J. Penn
- I got GSP by stoppage due to strikes. Penn doesn't have the heart Fitch does.
Lyoto Machida vs. Thiago Silva
- Lyoto by tko or knockdown then submission. Thiago rose the ranks due to being exciting, not through quality of competition. Thiago's good but Lyoto is on another level skill wise.
Spinning Plates said:From the evidence of the first 2 rounds I think GSP will finish this via GnP in the 4th.
"B.J. Penn is a world champion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu so my strategy was in the first two rounds to make a wrestling match with him because he's got very quick hands and his shoulder is made for boxing," St. Pierre explained. "So because he has small soldiers, by making him wrestle, all the blood would go into his shoulder and it would have become stiff and his hand would not come out as it is usually."
Thiago is a knockout artist so he could end it early, who knows, but GSP will likely gnp him to death.yacobod said:WOW
very impressed with GSP, he dismantled Penn, i picked Penn to win, but i thought that GSP had just a good chance to win the fight, but the way he dominated Penn in rounds 2-4 was very impressive
have to give GSP a lot of credit, not sure what Thiago Silva can do to him honestly
think a fight between GSP and Anderson Silva would be very interesting for UFC 100

The Fitch fight was a long time ago when Thiago was new to ufc. Thiago had little problem recently, taking out a great wrestler in Koschek. When GSP goes for a leg, he might eat a fight ending knee.yacobod said:ya but will he be able to keep in standing? i doubt it, i mean fitch was able to take down thiago in their fight and impose his will, so i imagine GSP will be able to do that x2

I was worried Jones was going to get robbed, but he wasn't.
Machida deserves the title shot. He's really trying, and for the first time I have to call one of his fights "exciting." Glad to see him speaking English and getting the crowd behind him.
People are going to call GSP #1 P4P, and possibly deservedly so. I still think Anderson Silva deserves it more though.
Fitch got fucked (by not getting televised).

I could watch GSP goon BJ Penn all goddamn day. That was fucking glorious.
Also incredibly happy for my boy Machida. Haters can eat a dick, he's the fucking man.
Aidsdia said:How is Anderson's competition anywhere near what GSP has faced? Lutter? Marquardt? Not to mention Cote and now Leites, and let's not forget him beeing heelhooked by a welterweight. Anderson is nothing but a product of the UFC hype machine, and I would put my money on GSP if they ever end up fighting. The only person I could possibly put over GSP is Fedor in p4p talk.
Eggo said:Anderson's competition has been nowhere near Fedor or GSP, but he wasn't KO'ed by Matt fucking Serra two years ago. Anderson's last legitimate loss was the crazy flying heelhook that nobody could have seen coming over 5 years ago. If Fedor ever comes to the UFC and dominates, he'll deserve #1 status. He's had opportunity to come fight in the UFC, but he's avoided it.

B.J. Penn's camp has filed a formal complaint with the Nevada State Athletic Commission over Vaseline that was allegedly rubbed on Georges St. Pierre's back between rounds one and two. UFC president Dana White said at the post-fight press conference that he was aware of the complaint, and said he personally witnessed members of the commission take the Vaseline away from GSP's camp and rebuke them in the Octagon between rounds.
"I saw the commission jump up there and flipping out," said Dana White. They said one of the guys was rubbing Vaseline on Georges' back in between rounds. It was one and two, I think."
"The guys from the athletic commission went up there and started screaming at them. Knocked the Vaseline and kicked the Vaseline out of the Octagon."
White added that "some Vaseline on a guy's back didn't change the outcome of that fight, but you don't do it," and said the blame should fall on the cornerman responsible and not GSP.
"If a guy was intentionally putting Vaseline on a guy's back, he should never corner a mixed martial arts fight again."
As for what becomes of the complaint now, White said it's out of his hands.
"Who knows. That's up to the commission."
