The Order 1886 Gamescom Gameplay Trailer

Pretty unambitious if true...They should be building on something like uncharted and pushing the concept further by having more destructable environments. I do think that they have shown absolutely nothing gameplay wise to differentiate themselves from the pack, other some quite nifty weapons. Visuals and concept seem promising though.

What makes or breaks the gameplay in a TPS is the enemy AI and level design, and we're pretty light on info in that regard, even after the 5 or so trailers we've seen. Uncharted 1 was amazing to play and is still my favorite out of the 3 when it came to combat. Playing smart but aggressive while trying to stay alive on Survivor mode in those arena type battles against the enemy was really fun. I'm not seeing anything that speaks to me on that level in 1886 right now.

Honestly, the settling alone has me more excited than anything else, and the latest gameplay looks like a good TPS. Obviously, the graphics are insane but that doesn't mean that's all that's there.

I don't want to give RAD all the credit in the world in thinking this'll be GOTY, nor am I going to say it's completely shit, yet. But in no way from what we've seen so far can we infer that it'll be a good TPS. I'm erring on the negative side right now because I hate being disappointed.

I never thought I would say something negative about the visuals of this game but I'm not a fan of the type of motion blur they use. I love the coverage on everything but it seems to just obscure detail instead of being directional and maintaining the sense of force and momentum it usually does.

Are you Jacksepticeye the Youtuber? My younger brother in law is a big fan if you are. Guessing you do videos on Minecraft or Happy Wheels or something?

haha yeah that's me :) I don't do minecraft though because I don't enjoy it but I do Happy Wheels now and then. I do a lot of different games :D But that's awesome, tell him I said hi when you see him again!

Oh he is lol. I've never watched any of his vids, but my brother in law is insisting I say

"When in doubt, segway Steve, but if running slow, speed is key?!?!!"

Wut... Lol.

Oh! hahaha awesome!! :D

Did you guys even read the preview posted on the last page? Plus RAD is an amateur developer with little experience

Well, as someone who has played it, I can certainly offer a positive preview.

Shooting is handled really, really well. If you didn't want it to be a shooter, well then I'm sorry.

i'm wrong or the model is more complex, the clothes have more parts on it ?

Given the way it is framed I would probably say it is gameplay/realtime.

I take it that people have different tastes and conceptions of what looks fun and engaging, and I know that opinions are what they are...but this particular title serves as a magnet for the most vitriolic diatribes I have seen recently, It's like a lot of people want it to fail so badly...

I would have to agree with this, I cannot put my finger on it but the hate for this title is a bit odd.

Not sure if I like the emphasis on combat against humans. The halfbreeds look absolutely terrifying to fight against since they don't just seem like dumb beasts, but I'm not really a fan of the idea that an ancient Order like the one in the game is mostly shooting other humans and meddling with what seems like human problems instead of mostly focusing on the more supernatural enemies.

Of course atm I'm not really even sure why we are fighting against humans at all, maybe it'll make sense in the context of the game instead of the dev team kind of being creatively lazy.

It's mostly concern-trolling from a lot of people who aren't really even interested in the game. The Last of Us had similar reactions yet now everyone loves it ("lol, cinematic zombie crap", "why a 3rd person shooter", "lame stealth gameplay", "story-driven *yawn*"). The Order seems like the kind of game that needs to be experienced in full. Maybe they really do pull off something incredible with the setting & cinematic gameplay that hasn't been conveyed well by these teaser-y gameplay clips that show very little of the overall game.

My excitement for this game hasn't gone down since the reveal and I dunno if judging it on a demo that is likely 3 or more months old is really fair to what the game is today. That trailer shows things that the demo never conveyed, with what looks like wider environments, exploration, and stealth gameplay. They still have 5 months more to make the shooting and everything tight.

Almost all 1st party games for ps4 get the same people saying the same crap, even someone in one of the Driveclub threads said it's not a real racing game, as it's on rails..lol

Well, I do believe RaD. Always loved their games, I just can't wait The Order.

I also do hope they continue their partnership with Sony.

The first gameplay demo of TLOU blew people's mind. The second extended demo blew ppl's mind even further. Then the clicker reveal was met with even greater adulation. There was always mostly positive comments around TLOU because the demo's clearly displayed what the vision of the game was. Unfortunately 1886 has not been revealed correctly or atleast that is what I hope.

Perhaps - and this is only a thought - the game itself just doesn't lend itself to a 10 minute "demo". Perhaps it's one of those rare creatures like the Godfather movies where you need to see it in its entirety to appreciate its scope.

Everything is real time. They even went so far as to make it so the engine can't support video playback :lol

It's so real-time that there was even a weird bug in one of the cut-scenes where the main character was supposed to pass the binoculars to the person behind him, but they ended up floating in mid-air. lol

Obviously wouldn't have happened if the cut-scenes were prerendered or prerecorded.

Every showing for this game so far has been terrible.

I remember Shinobi was hyping an Uncharted 2 level reveal for the order 1886 at e3 2014, instead we got a lame cutscene featuring a cool looking creature. RAD needs to step it up big time

and they also need to show the exploration and detective elements

Personally I think mega-million-budget AAA titles with 10-20 min demo spoils people's taste.

Production wise, a lengthy segment of polished (shipping quality) gameplay takes a lot of time (many months) to make from everybody involved. It need to be planned, designed, paced for the demo purpose, scripted, art-and-polish-up, QA tested, and submit for review. All of these are done separated from main production schedule and pulling personnel and resources away from the it.
In terms of game development, time is the most valuable resources and should be rationed. The months put into making a cool stage demo could have been making the final game better instead.

I wouldn't compare any game to Godfather tho....

That was thuway.

I don't have high hopes for this game. Big fan of RAD but the fact that they have shown so little of this game and what they have shown is so generic that I fear that this game will be forgettable.

Sniper, RAD has more good games under their belt than you have good posts in total since forever.

lol

I liked their first GoW PSP title, thought it was brilliant. Need to finish the second one on Vita. And I could never get into Daxter, they took out all the stuff that made Jak & daxter great IMO

RAD likes to iterate on other game studios formula's. With the God of War PSP titles, they took a formula that was perfected by David Jaffe/Cory Barlog and Sony Santa Monica and improved on it.

With Daxter they took Naughty Dog's ideas from Jak series and worked on it. And I think they just ported Okami to Wii...

They are not a great developer by any means. With Order 1886, they have mentioned Uncharted a lot and they are just building on Uncharted. And Uncharted itself is not a great IP by any stretch.

They need to do something original, stop mentioning films and stop cutting the gameplay every two minutes.

The most truthful statement ever written on GAF.

Maybe but I find it highly unlikely.

Unlike all the other games shipping soon, The Order is probably the only one who's either haven't shown a proper 10 minutes gameplay blowout (Batman, Qb) or an extended lengthy demo, etc.

Agree fully.

And it was just a name picked out of the air. ;)

Did you not like the last trailer either? I thought that was pretty damn sweet.
