The Order 1886: New screenshot found on SSM website!

A little color would be nice. Everything looks so blended, nothing really pops/differentiates the characters.

I'm still pretty interested in the title... I just think those things would be nice.

I hope they have an option to disable the horrendous grain filter.

Also, yeah, all the dudes look the same. Super inoffensive white guys.
 
I have to admit, the overall look of the game does look pretty cinematic. Whether that's a benefit to the end product is up for debate, but they're definitely accomplishing what they set out to do, and I'm diggin' it. Hope the gameplay is up to par, cause the game's looking real hot right now.
 
I really hope the physics blow me away because the only thing that looks good are the characters. The streets and rooms aren't anything impressive so I'm hoping you can really destroy them up. Not to mention the DoF that hides how not impressive they are.

Oh yeah, I would like to see more gameplay :)

Graphics, dog. There's your benefit. Less pixels to render per frame while maintaining the pixel-perfect ratio of a 1080p display. I'm not saying I prefer black bars but when they're used they're used for a reason. They're a notable benefit for IQ (or performance in general). Look at Beyond: Two Souls.

Again: before this is taken as an opportunity to perpetuate the argument, I'm not defending black bars, it's anyone's right to dislike them, I'm only saying it's understandable when developers choose to use them for certain games.

Maybe in this instance, they already wanted a cinematic (sigh..."filmic") presentation requiring as photorealistic of graphics possible and the soft body physics (the real revolution of this game) made it all too taxing on the PS4 this early in its life cycle. In this case, the black bars make sense since they fit with the aesthetic production the game is going for, while enabling it to run like it does.

I love the art direction, but I really hope the gameplay has more depth than Uncharted or Gears of War. If it doesn't, I'll treat The Order like I do those two franchises - wait for a $20 price tag.

Binary Domain didn't do a great job of it, but at least they tried to add things like dialog options, choosing teammates for missions, and the teammate trust system. Their effects on the game were minor, but they can be expanded upon.
 
This, and Second Son are my two most anticipated PS4 titles. Fortunately, Second Son is only two months away, and there's a bunch of other shit in between to make the wait for The Order just that much more bearable.

Looks excellent though. I don't mind the black bars.
 
That's the most badass/well-designed main character I've seen in years, and it's not even my prototype of badass.

Also this is the first game I consider to look "next-gen". The second shot looks straight CGI film. Too bad it might probably be a mediocre 6 hours single player corridor and a wasted opportunity at a decent co-op game.

Yeah, they've accurately simulated lenses instead of just going for color correction. It definitely looks way better than it does in other games.
 
Not liking the lack of MP in these Sony games this year. First Infamous which I was hoping would (MP would work great in a game like that), and now someone above said that RAD already stated this game wouldn't have MP either. Ugh. These are two games who's genres are NOT exempt from MP. I wonder if we'll get a PS4-exclusive Sony game with a great competitive MP this year.

I love a great and meaty single player experience, but it's REALLY hard for me to pay full price for a single-player only game these days (unless it's a massive game like Skyrim or The Witcher or something).

They haven't ruled out MP for this and KZSF is excellent in competitive. If Uncharted makes it out this year that'll have good MP as well. DriveClub also has a heavy multiplayer focus.

Erm, yes it will lol. More than pretty much any other TV out there. Those black cars should completely disappear in to the background if you're playing in the dark. I can't notice mine at all during pitch black viewing.

Ah, yeah, DriveClub definitely looks promising. Forgot about that. I'm hoping for the new Uncharted this year because I LOVE Uncharted MP, but I'm doubtful about a 2014 release.

My thoughts, everytime. But then, I click every thread about this game. The comparsion with GoW is a minor downer for me, even though I don't know why. I played GoW 1 to 3.

Open world games can be fun and good, but linear games usually have the better pace and storytelling. Hence, 1886 is on the plus side.

I'm so close to buy the PS4. Only my PS3 backlog and my "PS4 has no games ... yet" prejudice prevents me from doing so at the moment. I really hope 1886 can change this a bit.

Never had image retention from black bars on my VT65 ever, and I watch a tonne of Blu-rays. Did get some from AC4 health bar though, but it went away pretty quickly.

I think you get it more from lengthy periods of high contrast white on black, not black letterbox bars which would literally just be the phosphors turned off.

Good for you, but most Panny (as well as the other brands) plasmas have it. I don't worry about it though. It disappears.

I don't think it's just to do with generally receiving light or not receiving it. IR is caused when cells receive the same signal for extended periods of time (like a HUD or TV channel logo) causing them to retain that signal. So the presence of black bars isn't going to aggravate it.

In fact, having black bars can actually help with IR because you can use overscan to zoom into the picture without losing any image at the top or bottom. This means that static elements will shift their position onscreen and reduce possible IR. I discovered this playing while Dragon's Dogma.
