The Order: 1886 screenshots

Am i the only one who make the link between the uniforms in The Order and the uniforms in FMA Brotherhood ?

I love it ! :p

It's great!

Why can't people just accept that the lack of color is simply what the art director deemed best for this game and just fucking roll with it?

recognising that it's what the art director deemed 'best for the game' doesn't necessarily mean that you have to like it, though

The game's image quality reminds me a lot of Killzone 2-- anyone else agree?

That's a good thing, BTW. Everything looks so smooth and CG like. An artistic look that removes a lot of elements that make most games appear "gamey".

ironically enough i feel like what we've seen so far doesn't go far enough in its representation of the squalor and gloominess of victorian london

gustave dore's (semi-fictional) lithographic images of the slums of victorian london are even more oppressively gloomy than their portrayal in the order

Yup. Even the shooting kind of reminded me of KZ2 for some weird reason.

is it just me or has the game been downgraded? The lighting looks really bland now

It's you and anyone else that is either trolling, joking, or ignorant. First, the lighting conditions have changed, but the lighting itself is much more subtle and realistic. Also, the characters are now casting some pretty great looking, high quality shadows. Finally, the change in costume has already been addressed and is in no way a sign of a downgrade.

looks like a downgrade to me too, the characters all look like living dead now too.

Lighting conditions have been changed and even then, there's no evidence of anything other than improvement in lighting. Try harder.

I think it's the way the guns look and sound -- how you see the light reflection bounce off the muzzle, and the immensely satisfying act of shooting + hit response.

Great use of motion blur + DOF

It looks really good but looks like a downgrade. Doesn't bother me though.

I'm waiting for E3 to see how good it really looks.

Point out what you think looks downgraded. The uniforms were changed and the scene overall is darker but you can tell that the subsurface scattering on the skin is more accurate, shadowing is improved, and the eyes look much better.

It looks like the ambient has less detail to it (ignoring the clothes), might be the post-processing stuff. Still it looks washed out with less details.

Of course not everything looks downgraded. The character's faces for instance look really good.

If we're going by that one comparison picture, the fact that the characters in the old shot weren't projecting shadows onto their environment but they are in the new shot is enough for me to say it's not a downgrade.

/shrug.

I think "downgrade" is just the latest buzzword to hit GAF. It has now joined the ranks of "hyperbole" and "generic" as the most popular word used by people that are clueless about the meaning or the subject.

I like the gloomier look of the new pics.

It's like people are just using the word "downgrade" to attempt to describe a change they don't like, despite nothing actually being downgraded.

It's pretty funny how hard they're trying, actually. It's just that they're failing to provide evidence every single time. Based on the screens, we only have improvements in lighting to go by. Subtle foliage has also been implemented. The "downgrade" ignorance comes from RAD's decision to change their outfits in that particular area of the game. They've already confirmed the outfits we got used to seeing show up later (or earlier).

The amount of hate people are throwing at a game they know absolutely nothing about is funny to say the least.

I'm starting to detest the word 'downgrade' in relation to videogames almost as much as I hate the word 'fun' after it was ruined earlier this year.

If you watch the first trailer of this game
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FK8dgzW0o8

and now watch the new gameplay. You will see certain things have been upgraded...

*the shader aliasing on the guns is gone
*the fire looks better now
*the particle effects are much better
*the lighting is the same as before
*the cloth physics are applied to in game as well

nothing has been downgraded

as for the screens, they just made the level more darker by changing the time of day...

EDIT: the audio doesn't as good as before though

The fire is hugely improved. That suck out immediately to me, even in the stream. The reveal trailer had very poor fire effects that stood out with how high quality everything else looked.

It's especially funny to see how their reasons for hating it change depending on the thread. I think the easiest way to spot someone with an agenda is their reliance on generalizations. Saying a game has been downgraded is not a jumping off point to a constructive conversation. However, if you see a loss of detail in textures, less subtlety in lighting, a reduction in geometry somewhere (or everywhere), then feel free to point it out. I'm glad we have people here that can spot just about any minor defect or change, as it keeps the publishers and developers honest when someone inevitably writes an article about something they saw on GAF that gets put on N4G.
Obviously the trolling won't end anytime soon, as I actually expect it to increase after E3 when we get quality footage that blows everyone away. It's at that point the conversation will once again get shitted up by talk of "generic gameplay" and "800P." And I can't even imagine what Halo 5 and Uncharted 4 threads will look like come June 9th.

What? There are actually shadows now and the lighting on faces actually looks much better. How much of that is due to the change of conditions I can't say, but I think there has been an improvement with the lighting.

hey, the more crows to be served.

im ready to be shown the greatness, the handling of the stream of info has been terrible imo. Daxter was awesome they get the beneffit of the doubt from me. lets go e3, *rubs mits together*

A quote for you!

Wait wait wait.

So you're telling me that sometimes dudes can be named Andrea?

Where you came from ?
In Italy Andrea is a pretty common name (mainly for males)

You can't please everybody. I think there's a place for dark and gloomy games as well as games that look like a rainbow threw up on them, like Sunset Overdrive.
I realise. I'm just saying not liking it and it being intentional are not mutually exclusive.

Is "downgrade" gonna be a thing every time a game shows a trailer?

To be fair, there have been a few high profile games that have received downgrades from their initial showings (Watchdogs, Dead Rising 3 and Forza 5), so the term is not altogether amiss. The annoying thing is when it gets lauded around too freely, often by those who have very little understanding or comprehension of graphical features or tech.

A large number of the downgrade complaints for many games (InFamous, Ryse, The Order, Shadow Fall etc) have either been from people confusing a preference in art direction for an actual downgrade, letting lower quality footage dictate and distort their opinions, or people just outright trolling.

Fair enough. I just hope they see their vision through, and we won't end up with some half baked stuff like Killzone 2 ended up being when it shipped because everyone was clamouring for TEH COLORZ!

Yeah, if there is an obvious downgrade then I have no issue. But it seems to me that, like you said, it's going to be thrown around too freely and we'll end up seeing pitchforks when some screens show a new time of day in a game.

It'll be a forum buzzword.
