I like Norm. The cg of his character was a little shit, though
I'm a few minutes behind but IIRC this episode got panned by critics.

I just realized that the Klingon-type aliens are a gay couple. That adds another layer of "hmm" to this whole baby sex change thing.

I don't think that particular bit would've worked well in any episode.
Yeah, this show's still pretty awkward about whether it's trying to be a comedy or not.
That caught me off guard too. I didn't catch how they knew was in that cave.
I didn't really like this episode. I got confused about what moral issue this was trying to mirror from real life once they started talking about circumcision, and I'm not sure what position the story ended on anyway. The main cast was all protesting the sex change, but then it happened anyway. I don't know.
The comedy's still pretty bad, too. Damnit, I want to like this show so bad.
Captain went off to the side and asked the robot guy to scan the planet using certain criteria. I guess their sensors are even more precise than the Enterprise-D's.
I was glad they presented both sides and left the ending ambiguous instead of saying which side was "right"

but I blame it on Fox doing a schedule change this early in the season. The episode is worth seeing to see how it handles an ethical dilemmaIt definitely has it's growing pains but I think so far it's the most "Trek" show I've seen in years

Yeah, I've been enjoying it so far while it's finding it's footing.
I thought this ep did a good job being almost entirely serious for the first time and I actually thought the bits of comedy were pretty good (some of the jokes and also laughed the entire time Gordon was used at the trial). Was really curious how it'd handle an episode like this.
Yeah, I thought it was pretty good ending.

I'm usually pretty easy on sci fi/fantasy shows, plus I didn't get to see too much.
I was just thinking of the hilarty of blurbs they will use. Sometimes shit be sarcastic and they still put it because out of context it looks good.
Yeah I would let some shit slide if it scifi.
I saw all of the Heroes Reboot.....ALLLLL OF IT.

Same. I'm rather enjoying it already while it's still finding its way, I think it'll keep improving.
I think MacFarlane's doing fine as the captain, he did a good job with the conversations on the issue this ep, like with Bortus when things got heated and in the scene in the mess hall where he was questioning himself. Haven't seen his other live action stuff though.
Yup, I was rolling at that and through his whole questioning lol.

It's weird. I like 95% of it, but the last 5% is a struggle
Spoiler: that 5% is Seth Macfarlane. I even think with a better actor the jokes might be serviceable. But everything about him is struggle.

I love the guy, to each his/her own
He's okay when asked to be snarky but he doesn't have the chops to handle the more dramatic scenes. I just giggle when the character gets angry. He can't pull it off.

...Its not bad. It does seem to improve as it goes as well. How serious it takes itself is such a continous swerve. Keep expecting every scenario to break into a joke.

Well, it had the NFL as a lead in, a new night is a test to eventually see how much it was the football and how much of it was the show itself.
I really didn't like this episode, a big, big step down from the first two.
And much like putting Alara in the Captain's chair last episode, this plot would've been better served if it came about later on the show. Knowing little about Bortus and even less about his people makes this whole thing feel weightless.
The humor continues to be a problem with it being even more ill-fitting here than before, between Norm's cgi cock and the western 'dance off' bit I almost turned this right off.
I'm not sure how much more of this I'll watch, it has been three episodes(admittedly that is not a whole lot) and at this point there are some fundamental problems with the show that I just don't see getting worked out.

Just got done watching the episode. In the begining someone says a female is born every 75 years. With the witness they find and the guys partner both being born female,it's safe to say it's more common then that. I wonder if it's actually 50/50 and everyone gets the operation and never talks about it.
I haven't watched it yet, but given that Star Trek TNG was pretty terrible at the start, let's hope this is given an opportunity to find its way.

lol..i just explained it that way to a friend. It's like i know that this is not real trek, and I know that the captain is the family guy, but somehow because of the tone (and very heavily copied music and story structure), it feels like a new season from a spinoff TNG show.
I have to say that I'm kinda loving it.
I wish that they'd stuck to their guns in the 3rd episode and kept pushing in the direction about the ethics of the humans pushing their morality on an alien species. Much more interesting. They took the MUCH easier way out...although that ending was that good kind of moral kleenex cheesy that only old-school television (or Dick Wolf) can deliver.
The only problem i have with this show is that it's not on every day. Trek should be daily. That's my memory of it, anyway...
