I'm getting kind of bored of the show to be honest. I went on a massive YouTube binge watching hours of documentaries and interviews. Doubt they will be able to capture the complete shit show of a trial it was with only a few episodes left.

Ha I've been doing this also. A YouTube channel called june12nine4 has an OJ interview series where OJ is walking you through his house and questions in the trial.

But I'm really digging this show!

Yes! Forgot there was a new ep tonight. So used to everything being on Sunday -and I can use this show to wash that X-Files taste out of my mouth.

I'm not white, I'm T.V.!

Came here just to post about this.
Is there some sort of rule like I assume there is with PG-13 movies?

Public airwaves (broadcast stations like NBC,CBS,ABC) have certain rules; outside of that the reason content is restricted is because that's how advertisers and cable companies want it.

Movie theaters aren't bound by law when it comes to ratings either; they can let kids into rated R movies if they want to legally.

It's one example of "Free markets" working out OK; essentially parents who hold the purse strings want it to be a certain way, therefor advertisers want it that way, and so it is that way. We've seen some lostening of these concepts because American society has become a little less formal.

Great episode.
Reread the Mark Fuhrman recording transcripts today in which he says "nigger" 41 or 42 times, and I have to admit, between Fuhrman's Klansman style rhetoric and perjury, the LAPDs long record of mafiosa behavior towards minorities, and Johnny Cochran's emotional appeals, I myself couldve been manipulated into a not guilty verdict.
That bigot detective's commentary was like a tidal wave of black people's worst fears about corrupt cops and the miscarriage of justice. His perjury made the optics worse.
But its a shame the murder victims got tossed aside in the racial maelstrom of American justice.

Fuhrman was also the only person in the Simpson trial to be convicted of a crime.

Anyway, great episode. The scenes with Cochran and OJ at the beginning was just fantastic. Wonderful acting from Vance, he's just flat out amazing in this series. And the scene with Goldman's father was just heartbreaking. His son truly was forgotten in his own murder trial.

The defense team infighting was fun to watch. Shapiro was just begging to get dethroned.

I'm sure there was a little more calculation to it, but it's kinda wild how the prosecution somewhat folded on the jury selection, not using the challenges available. Especially at that point, they had at least some taste of the complicated dynamics that were going to play in the trial.

Need a gif of the final shot with Marcia Clark's eyebrow flex.

Where did they get a black guy?

I only knew he killed his ex wife, didn't find out about Goldman until today.

Another stellar episode.

Courtney B. Vance is running rings around everyone else. The opening scene was... interesting. The actor playing Fred Goldman nailed it (with his voice breaking on every second line). The one-liners were amazing.

man, that scene about the father talking about his son...fuck me. :(

Also, the actor looked really familiar. Can't really place him though.

Can anyone explain the significance of the court officer signing the document in the the judge's chamber early on in the episode? I saw that she hesitated at Fuhrman's name. Please spoiler tag if necessary.

As a Brit with minimal knowledge of anything about this trial I am loving this show, everybody in it seems great

Nathan Lane a F. Lee Bailey is interesting to me because nearly everything I've seen him in prior he plays a super camp guy with that trademark voice

I've seen a lot of people in this thread mention that Cuba isnt capturing the charisma of OJ. Is there a go to interview I can watch to see what he was like?

Fuhrman was a known misogynist with whom the judges partner had workplace interactions with. It's thought Judge Ito should have removed himself from the case because of the possibility of personal bias towards the woman bashing colleague of his partner.

Another fantastic episode. I loved OJ's bit about how Shapiro was the quarterback but they weren't going to be throwing the ball much.

Marcia Clark really should have listened to the other attorney about the jury. The defense team were overjoyed when she accepted the makeup of it.

I like to think it worked out for the best in the end without the riots a guilty verdict could have lead to, but with OJ bankrupt and ruined and then ending up in prison where he belongs anyway.

Super impressed with Vance in this series. I'll be disappointed if he doesn't walk away with an Emmy. The man is stealing the show.

This was my favorite episode so far. The Dream Team bickering and power struggles were pretty interesting. OJ's "where did they get a black guy?" at the end killed me.

This show does a decent job of creating tension, even when you still know the outcome. I was legitimately uncomfortable during that conference call with OJ, when he couldn't just say Cochran was going to give the opening statement.

totally agree about Goldman's Dad. That shit was crushing to watch

This was a great episode. Poor, poor Marcia Clark. They went all in on her ass. "We can't even execute Charlie Manson!" Funny as hell

And why would I want them?
This show is fucking incredible. The standout performance for me so far honestly is Cuba Gooding Jr. Dude doesn't look anything like OJ, doesn't really sound like OJ, but man, he has been amazing imo. The scene where he told Cochran that Nicole was the center of his world and he broke down was powerful stuff. He has had a ton of great moments like that so far. I'd love to see him get an Emmy. Every actor on this show is killing it. Best thing on TV right now imo.

That tension when Shapiro said "these people".

As a black man......the nano second he said that, I said "theeeeese people?" My eyebrows raised and my mouth laid open.

then Johnnie C says it like 2 seconds later. My blood was a bubbling.

I feel silly spoiler tagging historical events, but:

Midway through the case, the defense found the Fuhrman tapes. Judge Ito listened to them and noticed that the guy insulted his wife (Fuhrman's former boss) on more than one occasion. He nearly had to declare a mistrial right there, months into the proceedings.

By the way, Mark Fuhrman, the convicted felon and avowed racist, is a paid contributor on FoxNews. They bring him in to offer "expert" commentary on issues like crime and police brutality. I watched a youtube clip of him last year offering his insights on the Freddie Gray case in Bmore. I guess he gets some measure of satisfaction after all.

The People v. O.J. Simpson’s Courtney B. Vance on Meeting Johnnie Cochran, On-Set Parties, and the Grueling Courtroom Scenes

Had anyone ever told you that you looked like Johnnie Cochran?
Never.

I would've never thought that until I saw you in the show.

I never even thought about it. Even when I was casting for it I was like, This is going to be interesting. Okay. I put that wig on, though, and stood in front of that mirror, and I just went, Oh, boy. It was pretty amazing, and how they saw that, I don't know. I don't.
