ugh, the first post on this page is that creepy pic?

Oh well, excited for the new ep. Change subject from awful picture, Dyhard with Infinite Stairs, Garfield plush toys and such. Will listen tomorrow whilst enjoying my day off.

Question: is it CJ's rabid apple fanboyism that causes the script for the ending to describe the P1P Android app as "The Player One Podcast iPhone app is also available for Android" or some variation of that? Why wouldnt you just say the app is available for download on iOS and Android? Just curious.

No, that's just me being obnoxious. I'm just amusing by the ridiculous claim that an iPhone app would be available on an Android. I know it's not funny, but it makes me smile.

Also, I stole the "android cell phone telephone" from this:

Are any of you planning on picking up Rayman Origins anytime soon? I'm pretty sure Phil at least said he'd get it once it was cheap, and it's widely available for $30 now and I think it's still $20 at Target.

I thought 3D Land was a pretty awesome platformer, but after playing Rayman, to me it seems like Nintendo is really good at making fun base mechanics (as in jumping feels really good, the powerups are fun, the various types of jumps are useful and fun to use), but Ubisoft Montpellier are really good at creating fun levels. There's some insane levels were you're reacting to stuff on the fly and you have this constant feelings of being a single split-second decision away from death, but the game gives excellent cues as to how you're supposed to navigate the level and you somehow make it through.

Anyway, it's an awesome game and I'm curious to hear you guys' take on it.

For the people interested in the next Game Club: Stranger's Wrath will be 30% off for Playstation Plus subscribers starting tomorrow.

Phil, the "make your game and sell it to the game store directly for distribution" model is more prevalent today than it ever was in the "don't copy my floppy" days. Just happens that it's all on the inter-tubes now.

Unless you're joking, I don't get how you can listen to this show and ask a question like that. I'm always baffled when people fail to recognise very obvious (ongoing even) jokes.

I for one find Phil's aimless tangential diatribes during the closing of each show possibly my favorite moments of each listen.

Oh, I know...indie games and such. I enjoy my VVVVVV and Minecraft as much as the next guy. For me, it's the manually reproduced 5 1/4" floppies in Ziploc bags with hand-drawn inserts sitting on the counter at a mom-and-pop PC store that holds all the charm.

And with that, I will never shut up. CJ, Greg, and Mike now hate you.

For some reason you can still get that kind of thing at MicroCenter. They sell clearly copyright infringing titles like some weird Mario and Zelda games in paper sleeves in the checkout line. Crazy!

Cassettes!

I played through it with my daughters and we talked about it in episode 266. I'd expect the other dudes will pick it up now that it's priced appropriately. ;)

Just listened, I totally agree with your comments on the soundtrack and completely disagree on the powerup situation.

I rarely really notice music in games unless it's licensed, and Rayman is maybe the only game I've ever played that I'd buy the soundtrack for.

The powerup thing didn't bother me, I guess we'd have more levels that make use of them if you had them at the start but I was having a total blast from the second world onward, and I definitely never thought "This would be better if I had more moves" at any point. And really the wall running is the only one I would really consider a new ability, the rest are pretty lame "upgrades" and really don't open up many totally new gameplay ideas. And the few mechanics that do rely on the abilities (the swimming levels, flying around in the areas with wind) are confined to a single world anyway.

Have you played it anymore, Phil? I was wondering how you felt about the chest-chasing levels, as to me they felt like a faster version of Bit.Trip Runner. They have the same thing where you can use trial-and-error memorization to get through them if you need to, but they're exhilarating when you're able to get through a new area your first try.

And CJ and Greg, are you guys going to get it? I guess Mike and Phil didn't include it in their "best of the year" lists, but it seems to me that it's going shafted largely just because not many people have played it. I'd ask on Twitter but I don't have one!

The only reason it didn't make my best of year list is that I haven't really played it enough to form a solid opinion. I did get to watch a healthy chunk of it being played at work, and it does seem pretty outstanding (and yes, the soundtrack is tops).

I most definitely am going to play it more, but I simply haven't had much time for game playing lately. I've been too busy getting the baby's room set up.

So it's been at least two or perhaps three months since the last time I listened to this podcast. After Ford left, I thought the three man podcast wasn't as engaging. And then after a while, it got a bit stale. So I decided to take a break from it.

A couple of days ago, I noticed the best of 2011 episode, and thought why not listen. And so I did. And then I listened to a couple of more recent episodes. And I have to say, the podcast is even more entertaining and better than before. Not only this Mike fella a lot funnier than Ford, he is more interesting, and his taste in games is growing on me, more than it did for Ford. Also, and this is what shocked me, I feel his chemistry with the other three is even better than Ford's. Listening to him, it feels like the guy was there since episode 1. He is the perfect 4th chair for the podcast.

That said, I have to give credit to the other three. God damn, you guys are still awesome. I am officially back on the P1P wagon

I can't imagine what the baby-cast couple of months were like for people who don't have kids.

I find pretty much anything these guys talk about entertaining, so I don't mind stuff like baby talk.

It's like the Bombcast, they talked for like 40 minutes about earthquakes and stuff without ever mentioning a video game and I didn't even notice. I was completely entertained the entire time, if you have the right people talking then anything can be interesting and fun to listen to.

the problem is, we'll only get 20 min of video game talk with P1P if they spend 40min about babies. :P

Actually more like 2 minutes of game talk, 18 minutes of Phil talk and 40 minutes of baby talk ;)
I'll try and get it up to an even twenty.

I don't think I listened to those. I loved it whenever they talked about baby stuff in the past. Gonna have to check out these baby-cast episodes.
We've never done an actual full-on baby-cast episode. We just call it that when we get on the baby subject.

if you are listening for "engagement" you are listening to the wrong podcast.

I think my favorite part of the show is when the closing music plays and I look down and see there's around 15 minutes left.

Greg should just have explained how much better happy meal toys were 20 years ago so its no suprise daddy threw it out. It be wrong to not throw it out! Lets go to ebay instead and buy some of those transformers that were McDonalds meal items instead and have ourselves a REAL toy.

That, or treat his kid to a practice vacation :lol

I found this to be sweet. Not like OMG SWEET. But sweet like awww that's sweet.

Someone went to the P1P boards to post

I'm not kidding when I say Player One Podcast is my favourite podcast. I've pretty much listened to all the episodes, and have loved them all. No other podcasts can compare with the comradely and rapport you guys have.
Now, at 270-odd episodes, and averaging 1.5 hours per episode, that's some 400 hours of content. A friend recently pointed out to me that that's longer than pretty much any other form of media. P1Podcast has outlasted every tv show, every game, and I've spent more time with 'you guys' than nearly all other forms of entertainment. in that way, P1P is pretty significant.
Just sayin'
*thumbs up*
thanks, P1

I mean, yeah, it's just a gaming podcast, but sometimes it means more to people. This must make the guys feel good.

Sorry to get all sentimental, I just figured i'd share that with folks who don't go the p1p boards (which you really should, we have some fun arguments conversations over there).

There are a ton of TV shows that lasted over 400 hours, like Soap Operas or new programs, and then there are many radio talk shows have lasted much longer... but I understand the sentiment, it's sweet. I haven't listen to P1P since the beginning but I'm sometimes shocked at how long I've listened to some podcasts

So much time wasted with PSNation... so. much. time :(

I think my favorite part of the show is when the closing music plays and I look down and see there's around 15 minutes left.

Haha, glad I'm not the only one to do that. As soon as I hear that music I check how much time is left and think "Yes! 15 more minutes of Phil being awesome!". Well I mean it's everyone being awesome but let's be honest it's always Phil who derails the outro. :P

Yeah, it's kinda weird that my most anticipated regular media generally are podcasts, but I guess it's a sign of the times.

The Mark Kermode podcast is the film-related thing I look forward to most every week and I could say the same for videogame, baseball and soccer coverage too.

Mike, one more "Wisconsin is a lot like Canada" reference and one of your 14 wives might go missing.

Also, kind of surprised that you were so blaise about Amalur. I couldn't get more than ten minutes into it before I turned it off. It's hideously ugly, absurdly generic and not the least bit interesting. I was really looking forward to it but there is no way I could look at that game for 20+ hours.

I love you guys, some day I'll come visit you Phil. (Read that in any stock creepy voice you please).

Here's a question that has problem been asked a million times.. :

How will youz guyz' view and consider ESRB ratings when purchasing games for the kids as they grow up? ( if they grow fond of this hobby of ours that is ). I'm an 80s kid so when I grew I played all the horrible, nightmare inducing, moral corrupting violent games like doom, hexen, blood, gta, syndicate / wars , etc etc.

Though that was then and in hindsight the violence in those games are sometimes even laughable ( just look at GTA 1 ) but as games become more advanced and visual fidelity increases I'm changing stances on buying mature games for my future offspring. If my young kid would ask me to buy him/her some gratuitously violent game I would most likely abstain from complying when the time comes.
