The Player 1 Podcast Topic

You can't make this shit up.

Do they dislike him? I haven't listened to this podcast in a while. Is there a previous episode I should listen to?

the P1P guys are critical of Polygon and the editors in general. They're not big fans of Penny Arcade either so yea, this news is like one special treat.

Yeah he's a great poster. Unfortunately, like Brigadoon, he only shows up for a short while and then is gone.

That's very kind of you to say!

Like hemlock, I'm good in no doses. Small doses would kill you, and I have given an oath to only murder with my looks. The gals at the DMV LOVE that line! Unlike hemlock, I'm not leafy, nor green, which means I don't have leprosy... double-which is probably a good thing. Unless Molokai was still open, then everyone would want leprosy. The bikini situation could be interesting, however.

As for Dr. Theobald, DDS... ride up on your mic (not Mike!), little buddy! Treat it like a ball gag. I'm tired of turning up my Hi-Fi for the choice, up-to-date Bane impressions, only to have my ears blasted out by a rye follow-up from James Sewart. Either pump up the volume, like me and my bro Christian Slater, or ride up on that mic like it's the last tango in... Terra Del Fuego. I don't watch Tina Turner Classic Movies.

Episode 374: Doctor Default

This week! Yeah we said we were going to do some Walking Dead spoilers in this episode BUT with Mike out it just didn’t feel right to do it without him. But we do talk about Dr. Luigi, Bravely Default (demo), Mario Tennis (GBC) and Knack. Plus: Discussion on whether half-games or standalones should be considered for awards, the most we’ve ever spent on a retro game, the rise of single-player games, and our next-gen UI wishlists. BTW our voicemail line has returned. Why not leave us a message? (234) 752-9123

What is most amazing about Player 1 podcast is that they dont work with game media (and I think dont even work with games) and play more games than people who work in gaming sites.

hah! I had no idea. Like CJ, I barely look to see if there's a multiplayer mode in any shooters nowadays.

Which is a pretty nice testament to how much you guys really loved the campaign for The Last of Us. Because that multiplayer was the best one I played in all of 2013. It was incredible.

I was epically trolled this episode. Reading description, I was so excited to hear walking dead discussion, I messages a friend about it. And kept looking forward to it during the episode, especially since it was mentioned it was coming. But it got closer and closer to the end - can they really have a decent discussion in 15 minutes? 10? FIVE? Bah.

Really sorry about that. Two things happened that postponed the talk. The first was that my 18-month old woke from her nap earlier than expected, and I was the only parent in the house at the time, so there was really no way I could expect her to sit still and quiet for the duration of our potential conversation.

That also made us rethink having the conversation at all. One of the great things about the previous Walking Dead season is that all four of us were playing it together, and we were able to put together a super cut of all the spoilercasts and re-release it. We really wanted mik to be a part of that.

Nah, I totally understand, it was the episode description that lead me to believe.

I have a 20-month myself so I actually love the baby noises. During the time when CJ, Phil had actually babies (maybe a year or so ago) and there was actually a lot of baby discussion, I actually REALLY got into that side.

It's funny, listening to your podcast for nearly 400 episodes - there's no other entertainment media that I'm more familiar with. It's like I know you guys as good friends or something, but in reality, you have no idea who I am or that I even exist (in some ways).

Incidentally, I imagine the reason CJ has finished a lot of games last year is just not having as much baby stuff to deal with. I know toddlers can be MORE of a handful in the thick of it, but in other ways they're less to deal with and you can manage more time outside of actually looking after them. I seem to recall baby time being super busy even outside the actual time spent with baby (cleaning, preparing, etc), and just sleeping when you got the chance.

I think the thing is that toddlers are more of a handful through the day, but (ours at least) tend to sleep better at night. And that's when I get all my gaming done.

Sounds about right.

Newborns vs toddlers - both are hard work, but in different ways. As a first time parent, I imagine newborns are crazier as you struggle to become a parent.

I only casually game now, compared to, say 6 or 7 years ago where I was a multi console owner, hardcore.

I've got a wii u and a bunch of games, but I find the more 'serious' toned titles like Arkham city and zombi u to be harder to play, as I like to have a serious sit down session to get into games like that. On the other hand, Lego city, which is no less complex, but much more light-hearted, I find much easier to just pick up and have a blast at and able to drop it at any time. But man, what's up with that horrible save system.

3ds is wonderful for parent gaming. The resume feature is the best.

I've kinda stopped listening to the Bombcast over the last few months, so I'm left with a bit of a hole. P1P seems like a worthy replacement.

This is going to sound like a slam, but it isn't intended in that way:

What are other gaming podcasts getting so wrong that P1P is the first choice for many listeners?

It's the only gaming podcast I listen to, for the simple reason that I like all three hosts* and enjoy the peripheral entertainment almost as much as the videogame talk. My other problem is I only have so much room in my "radio listening" rotation, and I really only have room for one gaming podcast these days. But I don't feel like I'm looking for the same thing in a podcast as the average gamer, so I wonder what it is for everyone else...

Used to listen to Weekend Confirmed, but I find Garnett Lee to be pretty much insufferable.

*I don't mind Phil in his role, either.

For me I think it's due to the chemistry, immaturity, baby sounds, Bane voice and the fact that they're not game journalists/reviewers anymore so they can just say whatever and have no pretension of professionalism. Mike savaging enthusiast press is a bonus.

P1P is my probably my favorite because these guys aren't beholden to the industry like others in the game's press with podcast are. There is no blatant shilling or corporate apologist on P1P stinking up the joint. This is a show with pundits that truly care about videogames, and they let their honest opinions be known. Plus as a father of three I can just relate to these dudes.
