The "PS3 Has No Games" stigma - Why is it still going strong?

I'm gonna buy a system because it has games I'd actually like to buy and play. Games are expensive and I'm busy with other things. I usually only get the larger titles and cool weird little ones like Zach and Wiki.

To many people PS3 is just a machine that runs GTA, MGS and Gran Turismo.... and yes many of those PS2 owners don't even know/care that GTA will be on 360.

You did make a great point, but when I hear people comment about how the PS3 has no good games, I just wonder if they are really looking deep enough into the library. To me some good games on a system would be good for me instead of purchasing a system for 1 or two killer apps that I will get bored of eventually. I think people should say, there are no games that make me want to go out and purchase a PS3. As you mentioned, we need to give it time. Summer 2008 and beyond could be that time.

Doesn't take much time to look deep into the PS3's library!
 
I have:
ps3: UT3, warhawk, Uncharted, RNC, DMC4, HS(borrowed), Legos, Resistance, motorstorm
360: GeOW, COD4, GRAW I, COD2

...so I don't know what u guys are talking about...warhawk sees most of my time though
 
I have about the same no. of games on xbox360 and ps3. I tend to buy multiplatform titles (older ones) on x360 because they're just cheaper.

Just because you can list some software doesn't mean jack. PS3 is a wasteland right now and that's just that.
 
If you do not have a 360, the PS3 has a ton of games... If you do have a 360, then by the end of this year the PS3 will have a ton of games. I believe that is a fair and correct way to put the whole situation.

Quality doesn't change anything. Just because a game is good isn't enough for me to have interest in it. Resistance could be the best goddamned FPS ever but what the fuck does that matter if I don't want to play FPS games. Ratchet and Clank? There's nothing they could possibly do to the forumla to make it enjoyable to me. So what does it matter if you can list a set of "AAA" games? Hell, isn't one of them a goddamned demo? Christ!
Some people don't just go "Welp, this game's been masturbated over since those mock up screens and someone said it's AAA, time to purchase!"

A stigma is born from a general idea, consensus and that gets stuck to the product. Changing that stigma again, has to do with general consensus. RevenantKioku's opinion comes nowhere into the equation

That seems to be more your problem then anyone else if you enjoy such a narrow range of games. If your avatar is any representation of your tastes, well the PS3 has that coming in the near future.

Fixed... seriously, the whole point of the argument is games you can only get with a PS3 if you already own a 360. Aside from Tekken, all the "quality" comes from Sony itself... and didn't we all lambaste Nintendo for being a company who had to prop up its hardware entirely on its own content? Just saying.

Why should I? PS3 doesn't make a great secondary console, and neither does 360. If I started crossing out every game on 360 that I could play elsewhere, I could just as easily apply the same logic that it "has no games"

The whole context of the original idea that PS3 "has no games" is BECAUSE the guy already bought a 360. As a singular console, I agree, they BOTH have a lot of games worth owning. The only thing that's kept me from owning one is deciding which exclusive games mean more to me. But once you have ONE, having the other is intensely difficult to justify, unless you have buckets of disposable income and few to no responsibilities.

PS3's lineup should not be viewed in the context of 360's lineup, or vice versa. Neither system compliments the other, they just conflict

I'm repeating myself but okay ... the problem with the 'PS3 has no games' argument is that it's bandied around like a universal truth while it's only (partially) true from the perspective of someone who already owns a 360.

From a PS3 owner's perspective the 360 has no games, since the majority of current and upcoming titles are multiplatform games that are or will be available on the PS3 as well leaving only the MS published exclusive games. At the moment the 360 does have more exclusive game because of its 1 year headstart but that advantage is currently evaporating.

No, they shouldn't be viewed in context of other lineups under normal circumstances, but these AREN'T normal circumstances that the OP's quote is coming from.
If one ALREADY OWNS A 360 OR A PS3, the lineups have to be compared based on exclusive content, because it's not like the same game you can get on 360 or PS3 makes it double the fun or something. And you keep missing this point, that this is exactly the situation that the OP is in, THAT is the context of the quote, and looking at it from the perspective of someone who OWNS a 360, unless you like Sony's published works, the lineup is slightly bleak right now. To say it has "no games" is in fact an bit hyperbolic, yes, but from that particular person's perspective, it makes a bit more sense than you're giving it any credit for.

I haven't read this whole thread nor I'm going to ... but in case there is even this "stigma" I doubt it's promoted by actual PS3 owners. This is either sarcasm or FUD.

Anyways, enjoy it while it lasts ... 2008 will end this shit: GT4P, WipeOut HD, MGS4, MGO, GTA4, LBP, Resistance2, KillZone2 ... the new stigma will be "PS3 has too many games!",

I'm talking about the stigma in general that people pin on PS3 having no games though, not this one person. I don't pin the same thing to 360, when legitimately I might as well as a PS3 owner.

Its a pretty reasonable point of view from within that group. There is signifiicant overlap in the two libraries after all. However, when members of that group state that the PS3 has "no games" in the unqualified form, that's still assholery. That's the whole problem.

Let's see, we're left with an online only shooter, a fucking preview of a game coming out who knows when, a decent golf game and a downloadable port of a PSP/arcade game. Final count is 3 games worth my time. Still not good enough to drop $400 bones if you already have a 360.

In terms of exclusives? Yer, there isn't a whole load there to justify the purchase to a 360 owner. I bought mine for the Bluray and future games, Uncharted and Ridge 7 were just bonuses.
 
I think the no games stigma comes from the lack of exclusives that encompass multiple genres on the PS3 at this juncture. If someone is a 360 owner, having access to the multi-plat titles shared between 360/PS3, how much AAA stuff is available that could entice them to a PS3?

I only own a 360 so far but I want to own a PS3 at some point given its BR and game capabilities. However, the only PS3 exclusives that entice me are Ratchet (R&C is my favorite PS franchise) and Uncharted. Why? I'm not an FPS or racing game guy so Resistance 1+2, Killzone and GT5 hold zero interest for me. I've also never been interested in the MGS series (haven't played any of them) so MGS4 doesn't matter to me either. The only other stuff that's really interesting to me is the more distant RPG stuff like Shin Megaten 4 and hopefully Dark Cloud 3 at some point. Blu-Ray movies are a draw but I'm not a big enough movie enthusiast to want to plunk down $500 (I won't get a non BC PS3).

Given my tastes, the PS3 still won't a good value proposition for me this year, barring another round of significant price drops.

If you're judging Heavenly Sword the same as Lair, people could use the same method to bring down half of the 360 line up.

And this further proves why people think that. No matter how good a game could/will be, people will look down at it. Just like I've heard people laughing at Folklore while at the same time elevate Eternal Sonata to the rank of "masterpiece".

PS3 has games, lots of them. But he already has a 360, so if he bought a PS3 it'd be just for the exclusive games (and most multiplatform games are better on 360, so I wouldn't say mp games are a good point for a 360 owner). Motorstorm, Resistance, Ratchet, Uncharted may be good games but imo it's absolutely ok to say it's not worth 400 additional dollars.

Hey, people like me is why the PS3 is failing and has no games. If you can't convince us, enjoy your crappy ports and whatever Insomniac and ND bring out each year.

You guys really should start a church in honor of those devs, they're all thats keeping the PS3 alive, so far. I'm sure the Church of Sony won't mind if you miss mass in leiu of attending the Church of ND and Insomniac.
