As someone who bought it, disc drive and all, I don't care about the stats and all that. For me it was a huge waste of money and I'm still baffled that I bought it on a whim one day. I usually never impulse-buy shit and I even knew SH2R was still not fixed but aasumed it would be. That somehow was part of a system seller for me. I did it to myself...

That's false. When you get a 60fps option on PS4 Pro, resolution and graphics were step back compared to base PS4. On PS5 Pro is otherwise. What is quality mode on base PS5, on PS5 Pro Performance is better than a quality mode on base PS5 in resolution, fps and graphics settings ( like F1 2024, GT7, FF7 Rebirth, Dragon Dogma 2.
... PS4 Pro couldn't achieve that. You get 60fps on PS4Pro, but resolution or graphics ( sometimes both) remained the same ( like in The Surge which was one of the best PS4Pro uograde) or step back compared to base consoles. In bunch of games.

Like this entire gen, it was a diminished return in improvement, vs what we got in the previous one.

That said, at least they're improving PSSR, so you'll get a nice FSR4-lite bump to overall image quality. That will also aid games that drop resolution down to hit 60fps.

PSSR day one was pretty trash though.

Yep. Sony's pathway was PSSR and they weren't able to match FSR4, so now we're probably waiting on PlayStation's FSR4 version of Switch 2's DLSS-lite.

The funny thing is that the 7900XT costs 700$ and gets FSR3.1 from AMD. While the B580 costs 250$ and gets XeSS XMX.

With the next Xbox basically playing anything including Sony steam games the better value maybe will be getting this and waiting. For what the Pro is, it's not worth 1k that it costs here.
 
The problem with the PS5 Pro is the hit & miss PSSR that works great in some games, and not great in some others.

But compared to PS4 Pro I do think it's objectively better technically, if price is not put into the equation. Price value the PS4 Pro was a better machine for sure!

And cooling is so much better on that generation of PS5. The noise produced by those PS4 & PS4 Pro was more than annoying, it was a nuisance (for my ears).
 
It'll all depend on the time the PS6 is announced, if it's coming in 27/28, then yeah

If it's a 29/30 release, then it's going to give the PS5 Pro more time to show how much it can do as the most powerful console of its respective gen

Yeah, but I'm not looking for "bang for the buck," I'm looking for good. I feel like the console business just gets increasingly underwhelming with every new launch, and it's a really unfortunate trend. I understand the impetus to make the base model affordable, but the Pro models are an opportunity to give the enthusiast set something to be... well, enthusiastic about.
 
I bought my pro day 1 and I have no regrets. It was exactly what I thought it was going to be. I never had any illusions that this was going to be some miracle machine that can challenge a high end PC. It gives me upgraded resolution on most games while still running 60fps.

I do wish more devs would push it a little harder but that's on them and I hope they can patch up PSSR and get it working better.

I think a lot of people had some unreal expectations on what the pro would be. To each their own, I game a lot so this was an easy purchase for me. Mileage may vary for others.

Pretty much. I have yet to see a DF video that makes the Pro seem worthwhile. The PS4 Pro and One X had a lot more going for them as far as dev support and worthwhile upgrades.

Sure you get 60fps and and features of Quality Mode but it's wrapped up in a fussy mess that's only better than the vaseline filter performance mode on base PS5, there are exceptions but they're far and few between.

I agree, but let's not just disregard it and put it on the Devs, they shouldn't have to disable it and neither should we.
It should be showing you why you paid 700 for it.
And another thing, where are the damn plates??

I remember when I got a PS4 Pro, didn't have 4K TV yet but I was impressed, games that couldn't hit 1080p now could, some games actually supersampled on a 1080P set too, better textures, shadows, lighting, it was night and day
Once I got a 4K TV everything fell into place.

But PS5 Pro? it was like I was still on the PS5 and a year later it's becoming a choice not to play with Pro Features.
It's mind boggling, but yeah you can easily live without it because you're not missing anything but one or two games that do look better.

Oh yeah, PS4 Pro's fan was an abomination. Headphones only console. All PS5's are enormous and ugly, but I don't think I've ever heard the fan on the PS5 Pro. And the 2TB SSD is a nice bump, especially these days when an entry level 1TB NVMe drive is like $120.
 
To me PS4 pro was half ass like PS5 pro, it increase resolution but barely did improved frame rate with most games.

Good example was Monster Hunter World, the performance on PS4 wasn't good at all and PS4 pro barely improved it.

The One X was actually pretty great - it ran games exactly how I wanted them to, and there are a few standout games that, because of crappy PC ports, ended up being better on there than any other platform at the time.

What games ran 4k in the ps4 pro? The ps5 slim has HDR too. The ps4 base was 900p or 1080p? There are games that runs 1080p on the ps4 pro even.
The ps5 pro has enhanced vr
The only thing the ps4 pro has advantage is the price.

Thread 'PS4 PRO 4K native games (will update the list everytime there is a new game)'

Greetings. Everyone knows that the PS4 PRO will display games in 4k through checkerboard rendering mostly but there have been some games announced to include native 4K modes (meaning the Ultra High Definition resolution of 3840 x 2160) and some even at 60 FPS.
Each time a game is announced to support 4K natively on PS4, many users who weren't aware, are surprised since they didn't know the PS4 PRO is capable and think each time that the announced game is the first game to do so.
So I am making this list so everyone can read it and know about the games announced.
Please note that...

I'm also of the opinion that PS4 Pro was a more worthwhile upgrade than PS5 Pro. I'm saying that as somebody that doesn't regret their PS5 Pro purchase.

I bought both the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X and loved both of them. Going from 1080p to 4K (even if it was checkerboard 4K) was a huge jump especially combined with HDR. They also came out at a time when 4K TVs were more widely available and for affordable prices.

With the PS5 Pro I think the effect is lessened because we already have 4K and 60fps (obviously not all games but the point stands as the vast majority of games have a 60fps option and 4Kish image quality/similar image quality to PS4 Pro/XBOX One X games). We don't technically get anything new with PS5 Pro. We just get Quality settings at Performance framerates.

I have the Pro. I like it enough except for the fucking shimmering in some games that PSSR delivers. In my opinion though, PS5 should've stayed as the only console available and the pro could've been the PS6 releasing in a few years. We haven't come close to seeing what the base consoles can do and yet we are pushing out pro consoles? Didn't really make much sense to be honest. I'm ok with owning the pro and a select few games benefit greatly from it but it wasn't a necessity.

Objectively, this is very wrong. Like extremely wrong. In cpu limited games, the ps5 pro delivered less performance improvements than the ps4 pro. For example, Baldurs gate 3 in act 3 would take you from 30fps to 33fps.

In GPU limited games, the ps5 pro is way way worse than the ps4 pro. In terms of tangible output, the ps4 pro took a 900p game to 1440p at worst. Often times it was much more. The ps5 pro will take an 864p game to 1008p-1080p. Very embarrassing really.

Both pro consoles came with their own image upscaling solutions. PS4 pro with checkerboard rendering and PS5 pro with pssr. As far as i recall, there have been far more ps5 pro games with bad pssr implementations than ps4 pro games with bad checkerboard implementations. The most notable one on the ps4 pro was rdr 2. Meanwhile, we already have a handful of notable bad implementations in just the first 1.5 years of ps5 pro.

The only reason people seem to be rating the pro higher is because there are more 60 fps games. That however is a function of the base ps5 having a much improved cpu.

If by "worse" you mean some minor artifact but with double the framerate and 4k image quality then yes. Even my 5090 does that.
 
Expected bump in specs, but vastly overpriced (as is the standard PS5). Probably going to get worse as Sony runs out of the currently bought ram at pre ram crisis pricing.

This is dumb.

The PS4 vs PS5pro should simply be looked at like the difference between getting a 4070 and a 4070ti super. And we don't see threads being made to talk about those GPU tiers existing.

But what is dumber still is to make a whole thread and not take into account that the PS5pro is the first console to actually attempt to address the fact that raster and flops is no longer the metric by which gaming hardware is primarily measured.

Wasn't Moose Life 4K native or maybe it was Polybius.
 
The only knocks against the Pro is it doesn't come with a disc drive and stand. I understand the business reason(s) behind it, but it's a terrible look for the Pro model of a product to lack a core feature of the product.

Everything else is, in context, punching above its weight. Nevermind the bigger SSD and newer Wi-Fi. The console can do native 4K@60fps with ray tracing for $750. You just can't beat that value, and I think the longer this generation goes the more obvious it will be.
 
Back in the day i upgraded to PS4 Pro, which offered a massively better value than the PS5 Pro. This time i chose to keep my base PS5 and upgrade my PC...And coudn´t be happier with the choice.

I might be wrong, but i feel most people defending the PS5 Pro are just people who simply fell in the FOMO and now, of course, they gotta justify their purchase.

I can't think of one game that runs at native 4k at 60fps with raytracing ok the ps5 pro. You'll have to name them because I don't think one exists. There are lots of upscaled "faux k" games but native? Nah…
 
Sony deserves to be called out on a lot of things, but the PS5 PRO isn't one of them. I'm more than happy with mine. It also seemed like there was an influence campaign to tarnish it at launch, I guess maybe it's still going on.
