So did anyone else go to Slamdunk or is going this week? The show was absolutely fucking mental! Goldfinger were the surprise of the night because they were incredible. LTJ were as good as you'd expect. AntiFlag impressed me too. Reel Big Fish were terrible though. No energy, no enthusiasm, and the crowd was bored. RBF spent about 3 minutes moaning about how much time they had left to kill so they played Beer three times. tbh it was the only time the crowd had any kind of reaction or engagement. Incredible festival overall though.

Had a couple of friends that went, dissappointed i couldn't go myself.
RBF Were bad? Damn :( I was holding out for them to play the Lockup at Leeds this year but was let down. Ahh well.

Came to post the greatest punk album/band of all time.

It was weird because I'm not a fan but I thought I'd enjoy it if they put on a good show. I watched nine bands altogether and four of them were bands I've never watched before so I was more than willing. Their first few songs went well but after about 25 minutes into a 60 minute set they just got bored. They were moaning because they had 30 minutes to kill, the crowd were just talking over the singer. Playing the same song and saying they'll play it again because it will kill another 3 minutes was just a joke. Then they spent 5 minutes swapping guitars over. People were just walking out to go and watch Set Your Goals. I'm so pissed off that I didn't skip Reel Big Fish and watch Set Your Goals instead

This guy is awesome. He's posted loads of videos from Slamdunk!

Goldfinger - http://www.youtube.com/user/ihearttheweakerthans#g/c/3660E2B14D83D201

Superb atmosphere and energy throughout the set

Reel Big Fish - http://www.youtube.com/user/ihearttheweakerthans#g/c/56B96CF94AD6D794

I know I criticised them but to be fair, they did play some really good songs and get the crowd going at times

Less Than Jake - http://www.youtube.com/user/ihearttheweakerthans#g/c/5899DD2EB2601B35

AntiFlag - http://www.youtube.com/user/ihearttheweakerthans#g/c/08BAD9CD9796FB9E

Really surprised and impressed me

Is Slamdunk a smaller venue or are there a bunch of stages with different acts? Sucks about RBF. At least from the videos it doesn't look like they were in form that day.

Slamdunk is the name of the festival. The main show is in Leeds (called Slamdunk North) and that one had four stages and more bands. Then there's smaller Slamdunk shows all week in Birmingham, London, Southampton, Glasgow etc that have the same lineup as the main stage (LTJ, RBF, Antiflag, Goldfinger etc) but none - or only some - of the support bands from the other stages

Good news, everyone! Turbonegro are back, with a new vocalist. The president of the UK chapter of Turbojugend, Tony Sylvester, has been hired as their new vocalist, and they are apparently working on a new album :D Can't wait to hear their new sound and their new vocalist, as Hank's new band sounded kinda eh to me.

I'm ready to be a sexy denim Romeo again!

I've seen anti-flag a couple of times. They put on a good show. Always sound good. Theyre getting old though.

Wow, I click on a punk thread on a whim and see references to Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, and of all things... Goldfinger?

Makes me feel OLD. I remember seeing RBF all the time when they first started out, my brother used to be know most of the band members being the cool scenester that he was/is.

I remember seeing Goldfinger get booed off the stage and heckled relentlessly for being a big cash- in bad. There was an article in Flipside eons ago showing how they got their start as a hair band in the earl/ mid 90's. Color me impressed that they've stuck to that style all these years later (at least I'm assuming they do).

I worked with the wife of one of the guys in Face to face. They were all really nice people. At least I think it was Face to face- my memory is getting hazy in my old age. I know it was definitely a Dr. Strange band.

All time favorites are still the Toy Dolls and Guitar Wolf. Both put on awesome shows in their heydays.

I think I earned my punk rock street cred when I lost my virginity to "Search and Destroy" by the Stooges, right when those first opening chords hit. It was awesome!

UK GAF - Rise Against are back in the UK in November. Oh and they're touring with Tom fucking Morello!

http://www.punktastic.com/news/2622...-Morello-The-Nightwatchman-&-Polar-Bear-Club/

RISE AGAINST have announced a November 2011 UK headline tour, with Tom Morello The Nightwatchman and Polar Bear Club in support.

Dates:
Wednesday 2nd– Nottingham Rock City
Thursday 3rd- Leeds O2 Academy
Friday 4th- Glasgow O2 Academy
Saturday 5th- Manchester O2 Apollo
Monday 7th- Birmingham O2 Academy
Tuesday 8th- Newcastle O2 Academy
Wednesday 9th- London O2 Brixton Academy
Saturday 12th- Bristol O2 Academy
Sunday 13th- Southampton Guildhall

Saw Reel Big Fish and Streetlight Manifesto recently. Good stuff. The Ogden was hot as hell though.

There was also this band from Greenland that was funny. They had this whole theme going along with masks. They had a guy in a Polar Bear costume come out and dance as they extolled the virtues of seal clubbing.

It was Aaron from RBF in the costume. Took us a bit to realize it was him when he took the head off!

Incase anyone else is curious. Face to Face's first single from their new Album can be seen/heard here. I'm digging the video and really digging the song...

Unfortunately I'm not a big fan of what I've heard. I want TBR again :(

You just need to listen to the right album (the one shown in the pictures above.) Punknews.org review of it was a bit too glowing. i.e., said it's the greatest punk album of all time. Personally, I agree.

Yes, It's just been "underground" and you missed it while watching mtv and waiting for "punk" videos to show up.

Here's some more well known awesome punk (mostly crust though) from the last decade:

Acursed
Crust
Livet är den längsta vägen till helvetet
Krossad dröm

Agrimonia
Atmospheric crust punk
Unquiet
The unknown bury me

Victims
Crust
This is the end
Gate of fear

Aktiv Dödshjälp
Crust
Självdö
Gråtens kalla bris

Bombstrike
Crust
Dödens utsträckta hand(NSFW pic at link)
Vad är nytt

Nuclear Death Terror
Crust
The darkest age
Total annihilation of the self

Martyrdöd
Crust
Parasiter
Vägen ur

M:40
Crust
Brännmärkt
Masshysteri

Hotbild
Crust(with some black metal)
I dödens väntrum
Medan Världen gick åt helvete

Massgrav
Hardcore
Ett kortståg mot långsam käng
Skända flaggan

Kontrovers( released a 7" in 1999 but the rest of their releases are in the 00's)
Crust
Skendemokrati
Krossad vision

Totalt Jävla Mörker
Crust
Samma jävla skit
Ursäkta min uppriktighet

Tortyr
Crust
Inga mirakel
Ingen kommer undan

Konfrontation
Hardcore
Underkastelse
Unfortunately that was the only song on youtube but their debut album nedbrytningsprocessen is great.

Fall Of Efrafa
Post-hardcore
A soul to bear
Republic of heaven

Tragedy
Crust
To the dogs
Eyes of madness

Wolfbrigade (started out as wolfpack in the 90's but changed their name to wolfbrigade in the early 00's so technically this might be cheating :P)
Crust
Avgrundens kant
Papercuts

All of these bands had their first release in the 00's(unless noted otherwise) and these are just the more well-known ones. You can find a ton of awesome bands by just clicking on the related videos in youtube. And there's probably a shitload of awesome bands from 80's and 90's you have missed. If you're interested in new swedish crust/hardcore halvfabrikat is good label with cheap prices.
Phew! this took longer than i thought it would.

What's everyones favorite punk releases from this year?

I don't listen much to punk these days, but I actually quite liked the latest Misfits album. It's obviously very different from what the original incarnation of the band was doing, and Jerry Only is still a kinda so-so vocalist, so people expecting them to return to their roots are gonna be disappointed once again. But for what it is, I found it to be pretty good.

Recently I began to listen again to these two songs made by australian (post) punk band The Ears.
The two were performed by Michael Hutchen ( Inxs ) for the movie Dogs in Space.

Dogs in Space
Golf Course

Also can't recommend enough italian CCCP - Fedeli alla Linea :-)

Honestly I don't think I've listened to a lot of new music this year with the exception of the new Face to Face album.

I did discover Zero Down though!

...

:(

Some of my favorite bands include mest, goldfinger, showoff, nofx, lucky boys confusion and the dead kennedys. I've been to hundreds of shows, mainly in Chicago. My favorite venues are the metro and house of blues. Worst one is the first Midwest bank amplitheater formerly known as the tweeter center formerly known as the new world music center. Fuck moshing on a hill in the rain!

Don't know if people have heard of "Close Your Eyes" before, but Jordan over at pastepunk.com posted a link to one of their new songs a couple of weeks ago.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkpYTU7bg38&feature=relmfuNot to crazy about some of their other stuff, but this song is just so catchy in a "A Wilhelm Scream" mixed with "Ignite" kind of way.

And oh yeah, learned punk from the soundtracks to Tony Hawks Skateboarding and Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2. I have so much to thank Neversoft for, on that account:)

P.S. NO FUCKING KARATEMOSH IN THE PIT!!!

Another pastepunk reader, awesome.

I've been listening to a fair old amount of ska punk recently and still loving all of the old Goldfinger, RBF, Me First And The Gimmie Gimmies etc.

I'm also off to see Flogging Molly on Friday which has got me excited as I've never seen them live before. Has anyone here? What are they like live? Good energy during the shows? I've also listened to their recent album which doesn't seem quite so lively as past releases, but I'm going with a good crowd, and will certainly make the best of it, whatever the result!

I've seen them 3 or 4 times in different settings (club, big indoor, festival), and they always make the whole damn place go totally apeshit. Their mixture of folk and punk just goes straight to peoples legs and gets everyone dancing. Just wait until they put on Devils Dance Floor, that is some potent shit. You're in for one hell of a swingin' concert:)

That's what I'm waiting for. I'm going to jig and skank my arse off if/when they play that!

For me it's all about The Replacements:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xk9XP9sIW8

With that said, I would view the division of punk & indie music starting around the rise of Pavement.

Before that you could honestly say indie/punk were by and large the same thing.

Edit: If we're including emo, I'd say check out Red House Painters. Braid as well.

Hey, I'm not a big fan of punk music, but my friends band might be considered punk, I'm not really sure :P They just finished their first album, it's pretty mellow at times and ranges from screaming to talking. If anyone wants to check it out, I'm sure they'd appreciate the interest!

It officially releases next week, but there's a full album preview here on this site: http://exclaim.ca/MusicVideo/ClickH...drag_your_white_fur-make_it_grey_album_stream
Not really my style, but there is definitely talent there! At least give it a listen! I'm adding so many 'new' :P bands to my list because of this thread!

I'd like to participate more in this thread, and see it as active as Gafhop but most upcoming bands are meh to bad.

Any recommendations? I'll check those two links out when I get home^
