The REAL reason Zelda was delayed

Nintendo is delaying Zelda for one reason, and one reason only: The PSP.

The PSP is threatening the Nintendo stranglehold on handheld gaming and Nintendo wants to stamp it out. The DS is set to have a massive holiday season, but it will be competing with the Xbox 360 launch and the PSP's first holiday. Zelda would have only taken more attention away from the DS and the Wi-Fi network launch.

Basically Nintendo knows Zelda will sell whenever it releases. They can be patient with Zelda, but Sony has lit a flame under their butts with the PSP and it's causing a stir over at Nintendo. The DS will be touted as the MUST HAVE holiday item from Nintendo and Zelda will be pushed aside until the post-holiday buzz.

It's a good tactic, it just sucks being on the waiting end, no?

these were my immediate thoughts.

with all the marketing money nintendo is gonna spend on the "wifi connection"

combined with the fact that only two games will take advantage of it....

and that those games are set for nov just like zelda was.....

it makes perfect sense.

who'd even have time to notice while parading around hyrule?

Wow.

This just in! Citing various sources in the know, it seems the sun will indeed rise tomorrow morning. More on this as it develops!

Or maybe they are telling the truth about MAKING THE GAME BETTER!?!

And maybe we really didn't need another thread for this.

another zelda thread! yay!

i really hate zelda news and nbots, they always have to create 10 fucking threads about the news "speculating" every fucking move. it's fucking annoying. post it at planetgamecube or some where else.

Or maybe it just isn't anywhere near done yet and they were blitzing E3 with Zelda to get people excited about something since they knew they weren't showing off the Revolution.

I don't understand your need to bring nbots into the thread. I mean, I get you're obviously anti-Nintendo, but chill out a bit.

The other explanation is that Nintendo is stringing out GCN releases because Revolution is maybe not coming along as smooth as they'd like...(total speculation here).

N-bots! Man the stations! Here's your new enemy:

Thanks for the opinion...and for bumping the thread back to the top. :lol

Seriously, if a topic doesn't interest you, why post?

Dood you got da best secret info.. you shoudl write for SP**G! :PP

I believe they are holding off Zelda due to high gas prices.....Link is a hero in Hyrule and he can not show his weakness because of the government. Nintendo KNOWS Link cannot save us, but they want the children to still BELIEVE in heroes.

I think, in all honestly, they don't want it to be eclipsed in any manner by the 360 launch. Even though in JP the 360 won;t be too much buzz you know Nintendo, they want the entire limelight, although now it may end up being even more eclipsed by the PS3 launch.

of course -- nothing would win the psp a market foothold as surely as the availability of zelda on gamecube. it makes perfect sense.

LOL what is PSP releasing in the holiday season. The GBA games are better this holiday than the PSP games.

It also kind of goes against the 3 pillars design. Each pillar is separate and does not affect the sales of the other pillars.

It makes sense in that Zelda will sellout no matter when it launches. But I think if they launched Zelda in the holiday season they could get away with a $5 or $10 price bump.

Now we know the Micro will come out in September...it makes sense that Nintendo would want gamers with holiday cash to blow it on hardware and pick up Zelda later.

I'm done debating it though. You guys can keep flaming me and bumping this if you want.

it's not as if your thread's position on the front page has any bearing on the validity of your argument. i'll gladly bump your thread, and i'm not doing you a favor, cos hey -- it's a ridiculous post. bump.

"This holiday, we will be competing against two consoles by Microsoft, and two by Sony. Now, we've got Zelda...and we've got DS online...How do we further our strategy?"

"I know perfectly what we should do!"

*poof*

"Let's not release any games! They can't beat what isn't there!"

"That's retarded."

"Okay, you're all fucking fired. Now what day can I delay Zelda to now?"

its as good a theory as any I guess

now why it needed its own thread when we already have a massive zelda delay thread, i dunno

you know how donkey kong country forced a total redesign of yoshi's island? well in a similar case of crap displacing genius, twilight princess is being overhauled in light of geist's startling formal innovations. instead of turning into a wolf, link's going to turn into a bowl of dog food. you heard it here first. and don't bother disagreeing with me, cos you'll only be bumping my post.

You left out the humor.

Anyone remember when Eternal Darkness was delayed and some people thought it was an "insanity effect" put on by Nintendo? :lol

Retards.

u mean the PSP and its movies? Cause I dont see one damn game worth getting yet.... And since the PSP wasnt even at E3 (well it was, but it was like in a 3ft section of the booth), there were no good games there either.

DS will have no worries this christmas.

I agree.

See my posts in the "Zelda slips to 2006" thread.
I wont torture anyone by re-posting the entire conversation, ha.

What the hell is with this attitude?

As I've said, the GAF has an EXTREMELY short memory...

...and Nintendo fans wonder why they are often ridiculed.

Actually, I think the OP has a point. Zelda would have sold well on it's own if it was as good as WW. It'd get more points though solely cause of the realistic graphics.

Also, I don't think Nintendo wanted Zelda to cannabilize the DS's Mario Kart sales either.

Actually, I didn't... but would be interested in hearing about that...
