Was it just me, or did it seem like more than Sox fans at Yankee Stadium was cheering for the Red Sox?

It's like they knew they were beat, and applauded the Sox effort. Props Yanks fans.

...unless I was imagining things.

No, I don't think you were imagining things. Contrary to what their Bronx-style antics might indicate sometimes (see Game 6), real Yankees fans tend to be tremendous baseball fans and for the most part they don't have the same kind of venom for the Sox that the Boston fans have for us.

They need to restock the farm team and get some key. .and I do mean key free agents. Let's just those who we know are going to make us better (like Beltran). When Mike Mussina is our ace and he's erratic, it tells you something. We need pitching. Never has that been so crystal clear as this series.

Not sure about Lieber. He might have some value. Giambi, who knows if he'll ever get his old form back and yes, new set up guys and a back up reliever.

Theo better than Brian Cashman? Who would have thought it? Depressing.

2001: Yankees lose to Diamondbacks (World Series)
2002: Yankees lose to Angels (ALDS)
2003: Yankees lose to Marlins (World Series)
2004: Yankees lose to Red Sox (ALCS)

Is it me, or are those losses progressively worse for the team?

Well so much of the win was from team chemistry and pure heart. It's not like Cashman did anything wrong. I hate the Yankees, but Cashman hasn't done a bad job.

AWESOME!

I got cable back just before Embree's first pitch. :) Saw it, loved it, 22 years as a die hard Sox fan, best night I've ever had as a sports fan.

You mean Marlins in 2003.

I don't know that D'Backs loss was pretty damn bad.

$200,000,000 well spent, and it couldn't have happened to a more deserving bunch of scumbags.

But seriously, amazing series on every level.

METS IN 3000!
:p

Anihawk, it's been a rollercoaster ride for the yanks. Yes, they've tried to win the WS these last few years and it's been painful when we are so close and come up short. We'll keep trying. I remember when we couldn't even get into the playoffs, so they'll keep trying.

Enjoy the win Sox fans, what kind of Yankee fan can support this frankenstein team anyhow? This is a bullshit team. Get back to the fundamentals.

Yeah. Especially after the whole "Mr. November" crap they tried pulling. This has got to be the worst loss for the team though, this year. There's just no topping it. It might as well have been the World Series..

Are you high? Theo put together an at least comprable, if not better, team on paper for this season, then they went out and did better than the Yanks in every statistical catagory except wins. He did all that with about an $70M gap between the two team's salaries, thats over half the Sox' payroll.

Better doesn't describe it.

Cashman could actually be good if he got out of NY though, I'm sure Steinbrenner handcuffs him from making any Ortiz-type moves, betting on a player to break out when Steinass would rather just drop three to four times the money and get an all-star who's best days are long behind him.

2001 was pretty much the year that ended it. No more mystique. No more aura. It was over.

After that, George went crazy and started bringing in every high priced contract he could find, chemstry be damned. Guys like Brosious, O'Neil and Tino Martinez might not have been superstars, but they were the guys that got the clutch hits and willed the Yankees to victories. When you try to replace them with guys like Sheffield and Arod (and Giambi) with ego's the size of Texas, the team isn't gonna get any better. The Yankees aren't a team as much as they are just a bunch of high priced mercenaries. Really, the only homegrown talent left on that team is Jeter and Rivera.
