lets see the red sox are close to removing a "curse" from their franchise that has loomed over their fans for how many years? to top it off they are gonna do it to the team that brought the curse upon them. to top THAT off they are gonna do it by coming back from being down 3-0 !!!!!!!

why would you not expect people who are not fans of either team to be rooting for the red sox?

this is baseball history in so many ways

I'm an Angels fan at heart, so I was pretty mad when they sweeped them this year. But above that, I'm a fan of baseball and what the Red Sox are doing is historic and that's why I'm rooting for them.

IAWTP(except for the Angel fan part, Mets fan here:))

Very true. Most of my family's tuned in to watching this game. It's like watching Michael Jordan's last game as a Bull.

It's mostly envy.

Anyway, somebody needs to wake the guy manning the mystique machine out in Monument Park.

Can we stop with the whole "beating the Yankees = beating the curse" business? The curse is that the Red Sox can't win the WORLD SERIES. This is not the WORLD SERIES.

I applaud your tasteful Yankee support. Great fans you guys are. Cheers.

Let's see...
Steinbitch ruined the game by overpaying for talent, driving up the cost of mediocre players.
2004 ALDS Yanks vs Twins - $154 million payroll vs $58 million payroll, and the Twins are expected to compete against this?
Lineup is stacked with current all-stars or former all-stars, while most teams may have 1-2 all-star caliber players and an "ace" pitcher (with "ace" being rather subjective).
Used to monopolize all the pitching.
Little to nothing from farm system; talent bought from other teams (again, by simply paying beyond what most other teams could afford).
Steinbrenner also pretty much started building these insanely stacked dynasty teams after, quite frankly, one of the few likable Yankees of the past 20ish years, Don Mattingly, was done for.

fair enough. but to beat the Yankees to get another shot at the world series is something in itself. plus all that other shit I said. :D

This is what you get when you abandon Yankee Stadium.
Yeah, I was rather surprised that they would be showing plans for a new stadium during the playoffs.

And what the hell is the deal with turning Yankee Stadium into a little league field/hotel? Bunch of assholes, I tell you. I don't like it one bit.

IT'S ONLY THE FIRST TIME IT'S EVER HAPPENED. EVER. YOU'RE AN OLD, SENILE RETARDED MORON. SHUT UP. JUST SHUT UP.

the problem for the Yankees is Steinbrenner's obsession with beating the Red Sox, rather than winning world championships. I mean, look at this offseason. You lose Andy Petitte, Roger Clemens, and David Wells, so what do you do to reload your team? Trade for ARod just so the Sox can't get him.

While this game wasn't ever close, this has got to be the best series in the history of baseball playoffs. I'm not a fan of either team, but it's good to see the Red Sox finally make it back to the series.

This is true.

For the record, should the Sox win, they have my endorsement in the World Series (though I am probably going to pick the NL Champ to win it....but I was probably going to pick the NL to win even if the Yanks got in).

Joe, Solrac. Great year. Finally the Sox get over your yankees...It's been fun talking shit all year with you two. You too CK, but not as much...and you too Brandon.

That said...HOLY TOLEDO! Sox are 3 outs away. Astros are 1 game away. This could be the All MiG World Series!

ENTER SANDMAN.

Just one last time. I like the idea, Torre. Rivera deserves a chance to get the last out of the year at Yankee Stadium.

Ok, here's a top five for you, in order.

5. Reggie Jackson. What a prick.

4. Non-stop media blitz about "aura" and "mystique".

3. Jeter is a punk ass bitch who's appearance annoys most people, plus how grossly overrated he is gets on the nerves of most any true baseball fan I've ever met.

2. Insanely high salary with no signs of it stopping.

and your #1 all time reason to hate the Yanks....

Steinbrenner. The father of Yank sin. Back in the 50's and 60's there was a tough rivalry between the Sox and Yanks, but it was based on mutual respect. Steinbrenner took that away from it.

A few that could have made it but didn't:
Bucky Dent's cork bat hit.
Yank fan asshole cockiness, plus 50+% of them are bandwagoners who don't know shit about baseball.
Yanks treating the lower financial half of the league like their developmental league, wait for a player to reach maturity, pay him 50% more than his home town team can afford, etc., taking away a region's franchise player really pisses fans off.

Quite a few more but thats enough for now.

I hate to say this.. but we need another closer because it seems the Sox have Rivera's number. Another set up guy wouldn't hurt either.
