The Shyamalan Cinematic Universe - *Spoilers*

So let's talk about this.

With Split, we have confirmation that there's a cinematic universe of sorts going on.

There's Sixth Sense where the boy can see and talk to dead people, Signs (the little girl can see the future and maybe the mom could too), Unbreakable with David Dunn and Mr Glass and there's Split with the Beast as well possibly the girl who survives.

What I'm wondering is where this goes next? Does the little girl from Signs come back into the story at some point? We know there's a sequel to Split/Unbreakable in the works, will they introduce more 'mutants'/enhanced folk and how do they go about keep it semi grounded while still introducing more interesting and powerful characters?

And where does this leave his others movies? Are Lady in the Water and The Village? What about that other movie too with Marky Mark. Could any of those be worked into the SCU?

Lastly, with Signs possibly being in the SCU, how much longer until more alien threats are introduced? Would he go in that direction or again, try to keep it as grounded as he can.

Even if this CU is anything more than just an easter egg, is there any indicator that Signs and Sixth Sense are part of it? As far as I'm aware, the only connected films are Split and Unbreakable.

There isn't. I brought them as both movies feature people with powers and he could end up trying to them all together through easter eggs or even bringing back those characters in future movies should the sequel to Split be as successful.

The question is how would they fit into the CU.

There's no way his failures such as Village and Happening come into play at all.

I think this is solely Unbreakable and Split

Shyamalan's body of work shows that he works much better with smaller stories and under constraints with smaller budgets. An actual cinematic universe by him has disaster written all over it. Hints and teases are alright though.

You probably should have made it clear what exactly this thread is meant to be spoiling, OP.

It's fairly obvious that the thread will include spoilers from all his movies.

Yeah, those two are pretty much gone but I think there's room for SS and Signs in there somewhere. Even if it's just a few easter eggs/hints to those characters.

This is also true, but I think a low budget CU would work, but you're right.

It's not a Cinematic Universe. Unbreakable and Split are part of a trilogy.

This I didn't know. Is that confirmed from the main himself or speculation?

There's an interview with Shyamalan were he mentions he actually wrote Kevin's character for Unbreakable and that a few scenes were written 15 years ago for Unbreakable. Hedwigs first scene for example was written as it was depicted in Split, but the scope of the script was too much for one film. I can't wait for the third film. There is no 'Shyamalan Cinematic Universe' that's quite a stretch.

Essentially.

Split and Unbreakable are set within the same universe. The rest are not. There's no need to formulate plans for a team-up movie featuring Haley Joel Osmont, Story and Joaquin Pheonix armed with a baseball bat.

Kevin's character is actually in Unbreakable.

Split is a sequel to Unbreakable and there's going yo be a third movie to finish the trilogy. Not everything is a cinematic universe.

Are all of M. Night's films made under the same company? Or are some made under Universal, others made under WB, etc? If it's the latter then this might not be a CU because that part is important in establishing one.

Well in order to connect Split to Unbreakable, M.Night had to ask Disney permission and they came to a gentlemen's agreement that he could use the character of David Dunn for free, just as long as if a sequel is produced Disney will be involved too.

Damn I had no idea Split and Unbreakable were connected. Goota check it out asap. Fucking love Unbreakable, man. So great. It's one of those movies I can watch over and over and never tire of.

We have Mr. Glass, someone who is and has been easily broken

We have David Dunn, someone who is, for all intents and purposes, unbreakable

And we have The Horde, someone with a strong affinity for things that are broken and a strong hatred for things that unbroken

The SCU has a stronger foundation than any other cinematic universe.
