A rather revealing bit of Cosby related news from Sam Simon.

Cosby's Phd has been under even more increased scrutiny during this scandal. You can catch up on that in this detailed Washington Post article from last month:

"Bill Cosby’s doctoral thesis was about using ‘Fat Albert’ as a teaching tool"

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...as-about-using-fat-albert-as-a-teaching-tool/

Now legendary Simpsons writer Sam Simon dropped this bombshell yesterday on Twitter:

B3C459C8-94D1-43F2-9951-C2B3CC6C090B-398-00000055CA93000F_zps667b681e.jpg

Dropped out of high school in grade ten, got GED while in Navy, then dropped out of Temple University early so he could cash in on his showbiz career. Then goes on to berate and insult the African American community endlessly over "personal responsibility," shamed and harassed a Notre Dame student to tears in front of his class over his GPA being below 3 and now is embroiled in one of the most stunningly far reaching rape accusation scandals in modern American history. This is another smoking gun that this man is nothing more than a hypocrite, bully, and a fraud.

Well, technically letting Fat Albert writers make your thesis about Fat Albert as a teaching tool is using Fat Albert as a teaching tool.

It's a surprisingly emotional episode considering how late it is in the series. I always get choked up with Bart's present at the end, it's so well done.

Really is one of the better Xmas episodes they've done. Also has one of the most under-appreciated Homer quotes when he lists Barts punishments.

It's heartbreaking seeing Marge defend Bart against all the accusations right before she sees the tape, really sad ep. Oh man when she sings Lisa the bedtime song and skips Bart :'(

Didn't people hate this episode or have some ridiculous tirade against it at the No Homers Society?

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.

I believe you're referring to this article at Dead Homer Society

His distaste for it stems from how The Simpsons normally mocks "very special episodes" but instead they played this completely straight.

NoHomers.net clearly doesn't share this opinion.

Marge Be Not Proud is beloved. Finished as the 26th best Simpsons episode of all-time in the most recent top episode poll, too.

I couldn't disagree more with that article. If there is anything that signifies "zombie Simpsons" it is the fact became way too self referential and self parodied, not that they began using more conventional sitcom tropes. Every character has morphed into a caricature of themselves to the point of unrecognizability and complete lack of depth and heart.

With Marge Be Not Proud, yes it did have a "heart warming" ending and was a bit formulaic, but the way they got there delivered plenty of excellent jokes and gave the audience an inner look into Bart - that's he's a mischievous kid, but he's not a bad kid. Had he not gotten caught by security, the episode makes you believe Bart probably would've been so racked with guilt that he may have returned it on his own anyway. I.E. it gave him a depth of character that you don't always see with Bart. Newer episodes don't even try and flesh out any nuance, at least not in any substantive way.

So it's fine if he hates the episode, felt it was too "sitcom-y", but to suggest it was a harbinger of "new" Simpsons just seems way off base.

Have fun putting it together!! So awesome.

I did the car and the garage just now. The attention to detail in this thing is insane. The car even has the dent in the front. There are 'property of Ned Flanders' stickers, a complete toolbox and even an inanimate carbon rod. Amazed by everything and I've yet to start the house proper. It's a fan's wet dream.

It took me 8 hours to build it. Maybe 6.

The movie is cannon right? I know there's been a Spider Pig reference at some point or other but I don't know if there were other references.

What is the consensus on the movie? I thought it was pretty good, doesn't hold up as well to repeat viewings but I'd give it a 7/10. It really needed to come out during the glory years.

Very disappointed they went with President Schwarzenegger instead of Wolfcastle while everyone with half a brain would have understood the reference.

I liked the movie though.

Yeah, it's completely stupid as hell that they went with Schwarzenegger since Arnold doesn't exist in the Simpsons universe. Wolfcastle does. Wolf castle is the Simpsons version of Schwarzenegger. If they really wanted to make the fans happy it would have been Wolfcastle. Fuck, it wouldn't even need animation or voice changes. THEY'RE THE SAME PERSON!

Case in point: When Bart tells Wolfcastle that his latest movie really sucked. It was referring to "Last Action Hero", a Schwarzenegger movie, which in Simpsons universe is a Wolfcastle/McBain movie.

Groening needs to go Lucas on the movie and retroactively change that. I mean it's not like he's in that many scenes. Just replace the few times anyone says his name and redraw the name plate. It's probably my only standout problem with the movie aside from them not using Scorpio for the actor instead, but that's a bigger problem that would need a much bigger change to the script. (I mean fuck, how cool would it have been if instead we had Scorpio trying to take over Springfield and Homer had to try and convince him to change his mind. Such a cool idea that can never be done now. May he R.I.P.

Yeah, that whole scene (on top of just not being funny) just made no sense.
