Top eleven episodes of all time?

1) Last Exit to Springfield (season 4)
2) Lemon of Troy (season 6)
3) Homer at the Bat (season 3)
4) Mr. Plow (season 4)
5) Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk (season 3)
6) Cape Feare (season 5)
7) Marge vs. The Monorail (season 4)
8) Two Dozen and One Greyhounds (season 6)
9) 22 Short Films about Springfield (season 7)
10) Simpson and Delilah (season 2)
11) Duffless (season 4)

I guess season 4 is probably the best of them all. I wanted to add Treehouse of Horror V, but I couldn't it topping anything on that list. Thoughts? Your lists?

I just found out the other day that the scene where Homer makes a baseball bat out of a tree that was struck by lightning was a reference to "The Natural". See:

Here's a question: If you can just use one image from a scene from the Simpsons, to represent the Simpsons, which would it be, this image, that represents the Simpsons?

For how much I thought about it after the fact as a kid, Homer³ is still one of my favorites. Crazy for how short it is.

Lemon of Troy is definitely up there as well. I need to watch a lot of these episodes again to refresh my memory.

I think the action conveys the dynamic between the family (that they're at each other's throats), while the art style makes it clear it's black comedy and the fact that Homer strangles Bart isn't meant to be seen as child abuse or anything.

Zombie Simpsons kills the joke by pointing out the dark nature of a father choking his son almost every time it happens now.

gif request

Can someone make a gif from S05E10 where Homer is the casino dealer and he grabs Rain Man's arm and he starts hitting himself so Homer starts yelling and hitting himself too? I was just watching that episode and that part had me rolling.

This might be the best line in the entire show:

"No, Jasper. They may say she died from a burst ventricle, but I know she died of a broken heart."

I think my favorite episode is probably Bart on the Road, and I don't even know why. I don't think it's the funniest, and it doesn't have any strong emotional aspect, but something about Bart, Milhouse, Nelson, and Martin going on a road trip is just... right.

I agree, even if it's not my favorite episode, it's a great one.

So what episode from the classic seasons do you think are crap?

I honestly don't get Bart vs. Australia. I feel the jokes are flat and simply "Simpsons go to another country and do shit" is a terrible baseline for jokes.

And yet "Simpsons go to a theme park and do shit" was a great baseline for jokes in Itchy & Scratchy Land.

The folks at NoHomers.net recently conducted a poll of what they felt were the worst 30 episodes of the classic era (Seasons 1-8 - excluding clip shows). Here's what they came up with by consensus opinion:

30. Like Father, Like Clown
29. Old Money
28. The Twisted World of Marge Simpson
27. Dog of Death
26. Round Springfield
25. Moaning Lisa
24. Fear of Flying
23. Lady Bouvier's Lover
22. The Homer They Fall
21. Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(Annoyed Grunt)cious

20. Marge In Chains
19. Scenes From the Class Struggle in Springfield
18. When Flanders Failed
17. Bart the Fink
16. The Secret War of Lisa Simpson
15. Bart Gets an Elephant
14. My Sister, My Sitter
13. Bart's Dog Gets an F
12. Bart's Inner Child
11. Burns, Baby Burns

10. The Otto Show
9. There's No Disgrace Like Home
8. The Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase
7. Some Enchanted Evening
6. The Call of the Simpsons
5. Dancin' Homer
4. The Canine Mutiny
3. Homer's Night Out
2. Homerpalooza
1. Homer's Odyssey

- The Principal and the Pauper
- The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons
- FUCK, most of season 9 for that matter .....

I've always considered Seasons 3-8 absolute classics. Each episode is a gem. However, I was rewatching Season 8 the other day, and wow the Spinoff Showcase was not a good episode at all. I was pretty shocked to see such a mediocre episode in Season 8.

i fucking love it because it's just such an absurd premise. not that the simpsons go to australia, but that the writers make fun of australia for an entire episode, and they show no redeeming value in the country at all. it's so mean, and it comes out of nowhere. i love it.
