Watching a more recent episode, don't know which season, but why is everything lit like the sun is in the same room as the characters?

Dear lord.

HDEEEEEEEEE! Yeah I don't like Simpsons HD. But I don't mind the HD on Seth McFarlane's Cartoons (Family Guy, American Dad, Cleveland Show). If you watch newer seasons of The Simpsons at DVD quality, it kinda looks better though the colors are still washed out.

That's wasn't the sun. It was the Aurora Borealis... localized entirely within Skinner's kitchen.

Um, obviously it's a joke at the expense of record companies and advertisers that use dead celebrites to hawk goods, or the hologram Tupac that appeared at Cochella.

Often The simpsons takes an even from real life and parodies it to show how stupid or disgusting the practice is.

Yeah, I actually just saw this ep, it was pretty decent to be honest. I enjoyed the Bart and Grandpa sub plot which had a touching finish to it. It was nice to see them pair these two up, a real rarity. The Moe suicide angle felt a little serious and out of place for the Simpsons, but I imagined something way more offensive based on the one screenshot of Moe in the noose. The Lisa/hologram plot served as more of an extended joke, but like you mentioned its purpose was a commentary on how disrespectful the practice of "resurrecting" the deceased for the purpose of profit is. Overall one of the better eps of the season, surprisingly.

Simpsons Hit & Run is so good. It's 2003 era writing but... the references they pack in are great.
I loved it. I also played way more than anyone probably should have played of Road Rage.
You can play as Lisa in her "Floreda" costume. What more could anyone possibly want from a video game?
Exactly. Crap I wish I still had it!

I also bought and played through the god awful Futurama game. I sure was a fanboy back then. :s

In fact I would show it to my dad on his computer, these sorts of games back then, and in the same sort of tone/voice and frequency as "Will you take us to Mt. Splashmore?" Only it'd be, "add to cart add to cart add to cart."

"Name some of your son's hobbies."

"Well he's always chewing on that phone cord."

"He hasn't done that since he was two."

"Well then he has no hobbies!"

This episode always kind of pulled on heartstrings between my dad and I. Simpsons were too good. :(

In a perfect world, we'd all be homersexual
I think my favorite episode is probably Bart on the Road, and I don't even know why. I don't think it's the funniest, and it doesn't have any strong emotional aspect, but something about Bart, Milhouse, Nelson, and Martin going on a road trip is just... right.

Wait, people hate Homer's Enemy?

Also I love Lost Our Lisa, if only because it's Lisa and Homer interacting. Whenever the two interact, there's some magic to it - like you could feel they really care about each other, more so than Homer and Bart doing father/son activities.

I really dislike Lisa the Vegetarian though, if only because she didn't get any comeuppance on what she did.

And yet "Simpsons go to a theme park and do shit" was a great baseline for jokes in Itchy & Scratchy Land.

The folks at NoHomers.net recently conducted a poll of what they felt were the worst 30 episodes of the classic era (Seasons 1-8 - excluding clip shows). Here's what they came up with by consensus opinion:

Ah but Itchy and Scratchy Land is a well-paced episode that, while poking fun at Disney, still involves at the heart their own show. They poke fun at Disney but at the same time they poke fun at the outlandishness of their own world. They don't make lame jokes on the expense of a country.

- Homer's Enemy
- Bart the Carny
- The Principal and the Pauper
- The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons
- FUCK, most of season 9 for that matter .....

I think TPatP is not part of the classic season?

The Krusty centered episodes. I'm not sure how many there were, but I didn't like any of them. The one involving his Jewish dad was the worst, but I don't know what season it was.

Yeah, I don't like Krusty too, or any Krusty-centric episodes for that matter.

It's funny that you say that, because the Homer/Lisa power plant story is incredibly endearing to me. The way in which they bonded felt really believable and I loved their team effort with the vending machine. It felt like the sort of relationship that could exist between the two of them after the ending of Lisa the Vegetarian.

Ugh, if there was ever an episode that actually made me despise Lisa, it was Lisa the Vegetarian.

That list of the top 30 worst Simpsons episodes from the "classic seasons" made me realize I haven't seen some of those 1st and 2nd season episodes in probably over a decade. The one that really blew my mind was when they get stranded in the woods and Maggie gets raised by bears. Holy shit

LOL, for some reason the scenes that stay the most with me from that episode are Marge answering the phone and getting all excited due to Homer/Bart calling her (and then wanting to speak to Lisa instead). I actually felt kind of bad for her =(

Yeah, there's a lack of comeuppance in Lisa the Vegetarian which feels stupid. Still, Homer/Lisa bonding moments are really top notch and above Homer/Bart bonding moments.

In the vein of my previous comment, I always feel the real tragic story is Marge giving up her life and dreams to become a mom. Sure, she is good at what she does and she loves her family, but she could've been much more going by her highschool days, and in a way its very sad what she settles for in her married life. At least I have always been very sympathetic to her character.

I found that scene to be endearing as well. And yet Lisa didn't seem to have the issue with stealing there that she does in Homer vs. Lisa and the 8th Commandment where she even takes her mother to task for eating a grape at the grocery store. Seems a little contradictory.

I really like season 7 Lisa (and yes, that includes how she acted in Lisa the Vegetarian). In most of the season's Lisa heavy episodes that immediately come to mind, she was a lot more well rounded and understandable than she can sometimes be: intelligent and opinionated about things, often to a fault, but also often able to correct herself and recognize her own shortcomings. Additionally, there are plenty of examples of her simply acting like a child (like how she was bouncing up and down and annoying the shit out of Marge in Scenes from the Class Struggle in Springfield) in a way that makes her character come across as less dour.

Along these lines, I think Summer of 4 Ft. 2 presents a more interesting Lisa story than Lisa's Substitute (not to say that I dislike the latter). Multifaceted Lisa > super politicized Lisa (newer episodes) and super depressed Lisa (earliest episodes).

Just saw an episode where Lisa wants to become a Wicca.

Moe gets jumped on by all the hillbillies and their guns, and is extremely upset when he realizes they're not going to "take advantage" of him.
