Marge: Homer, is this the way you pictured married life?
Homer: Yeah, pretty much. Except we drove around in a van solving
mysteries.

A serious question here. I know the show has taken a pasting over the years. That being said, how safe is this show from being cancelled? The amount of criticism it gets would warrant it's cancellation if it were any other show. I haven't watched this show since the late 1990's, but the recent episodes I see now and then are just plain awful. What the hell happened? Has its past success made it bulletproof to network executives?

Safer than Futurama sadly.

Now I'm sad. Two days and it's gone forever, and we still have Simpsons.

One day. It could always be brought back again. Though if they CC seasons are anything to go by maybe it shouldn't.
There's nothing wrong with the CC seasons. There's a lot of good stuff in there. At the very least it's all better than most of the last 13 years of Simpsons.

I'm actually going to miss Futurama. But I wouldn't mind Simpsons bowing out.

I'm of the opinion that the CC seasons are just as badly written as current simpsons.

I agree that the Comedy Central episodes aren't as brilliant as the ones during their initial run, but the newer episodes on The Simpsons are just plain awful. One slapstick after another. I have no idea what happened to that show, but the dropoff in quality is woefully apparent. There is now more worse episodes from The Simpsons than there are good. That's pretty sobering, and kind of tragic too, because this show was a classic. It had all the good fortune going for it to have had an unblemished legacy -- or at the very least, end with relative good standing among the critics. In 50 years, do you think cultural critics are ever going to cite the latter years of the show as having any signifigance to the show's overall impact?

I disagree. They're completely different shows and Groening has been at the helm all this time. Maybe now that he's going back to Simpsons it'll get back up to Futurama levels.

I am going crazy but does anyone remember the episode where Edna? is giving out test answers? She goes acadaca, addacaca etc.

I figured out the episode you were thinking of.
It's near the beginning of Season 20, Episode 11.
Edna is telling the students that the answers to the Vice President's Assessment Test are in 12 basic patterns and goes on to read them from the board, and the students repeat them.
All of the teachers (and Doris) are in on the learning.

Aren't the viewership numbers lower than ever too?
The show is completely burned out but Fox keeps dragging this rotten corpse all over the place.

Skinner's Sense of Snow is pretty funny... and I just realized that's where the episode that salt.gif came from.
